FIRST LOOK: Thor: Love & Thunder!

Hey Everyone,

Paul here…

We finally got our first look at Thor: Love and Thunder, with these new character posters and this AWESOME teaser trailer posted below!

Pretty great, right? A teaser trailer is supposed to get viewers excited to see the movie, without giving the whole story away. So by that definition, this did its job and then some.

One of the things I’m really excited about in this film is seeing Jane Foster become The Mighty Thor. I had a few people tell me that they didn’t really like this new story idea. While Natalie Portman has always been fine in the role, I don’t think she is a stand out character in the minds of many fans. We change is so much justified. But let me tell you this storyline is fucking awesome! Jane Foster wielding Mjolnir and becoming The Mighty Thor was one of the best storylines in Marvel Comics over the last 10 years. If the film can manage to tap into even half of how cool this character can be and how fascinating her story is, we have a lot of reasons to be excited. So I encourage people to keep an open mind. We still have our classic Thor. He’s not going anywhere. There just happens to be more than one Thor in Love and Thunder. On that note, I’m sure there are plenty of fans out there who aren’t familiar with the comics, who may have been a little bit confused by her sudden appearance as another Thor at the end of this teaser. The video below does a good job of answering some of you’re burning questions and works as a solid primer to give you the basics surrounding Jane Foster AKA The Mighty Thor! Take a look…

Thor: Love and Thunder opens July 8th.

UPDATED! 2022 PREVIEW! Most Anticipated Movies, TV Shows, Comics & More Of 2022!

Hey Everyone,

Paul here…

There’s some fantastic and exciting pop culture content coming out in 2022! Movies, graphic novels, TV/Streaming, and more! Shows like Peacemaker and movies like The Batman got us off to a great start, but there’s an embarrassment of riches still coming our way this year. Below are my picks for the Movies, TV/Streaming projects, Comic Books/Graphic Novels, Books, and Video Games that you don’t want to miss in 2022!

MOVIES

Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets Of Dumbledore

Release Date: Apr 15, 2022

Warner Bros. just released this fascinating Behind-The-Scenes video about the new film. Definitely worth giving a watch:

While the Fantastic Beasts series hasn’t been the universally praised films that the original Harry Potter films, I’ve loved these movies, especially the last one. This is such a fun world to visit and I love this rich time period in The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, showing us fascinating stories and characters we haven’t seen before. Also, c’mon, Jude Law is a PERFECT young Albus Dumbledore and I can’t wait to see more of him in this next film. Check out the trailer here:

Doctor Strange in The Multiverse of Madness

Release Date: May 6, 2022

With possible exception of The Batman, no film in 2022 has me more excited than Doctor Strange in The Multiverse of Madness. Doctor Strange is one of my favorite comic book characters as well as one of my favorite MCU characters. I thought his solo film in 2016 was a very fun, dynamic, visually interesting, and all-around solid introduction to a character with an incredibly rich history. We really just saw the tip of the iceberg in that film. he’s also my favorite hero in infinity war, his one on one duel with Thanos wielding the infinity gauntlet is one of the most iconic and just fucking cool scenes in the MCU. With this new film the character and his world has been established, giving the filmmakers the opportunity to really dive into some crazy shit. Man, after seeing the teaser trailer that aired during the Super Bowl and the full trailer that was simultaneously released online, we really got a chance to see how absolutely fucking bananas this movie is going to be. Marvel does a great job with their trailers of not spoiling the movie while still getting you incredibly excited for the project. And the Doctor Strange trailers have done that pitch perfectly. Considering the stuff that they showed us in the trailer like the illuminati call Ma fucking Patrick Stewart has Charles Xavier! Ultron drones! Wanda appearing appearing to go full villain! Incredible stuff. Marvel has always also described this film as the closest they’ve ever done to making a horror movie, which is really interesting because we haven’t seen anything like that from the MCU yet.

So you combine all of that with the fact that Sam Raimi, the legendary Director of the original Spider-Man trilogy, the Evil Deads films, Drag Me To Hell, The Giftt, and a lot of other great movies is helming this film, I think we’re gonna get something really special. Sam Raimi directed what is arguably one of the best superhero films ever made with Spider-Man 2 and we also know that he excels at weird, fucked up, offbeat, crazy, horror with the Evil Dead films and Drag Me To Hell . Rami has also been a very outspoken fan of Doctor Strange throughout his career. My expectations are so fucking high for this one I think it’s going to be a home run, but I’ve been burned many times before so let’s keep our fingers crossed. On the other hand marvel has never burned me, so far I’ve always been able to trust them to somehow zinc bigger than even their fans to deliver a fantastic project. This is my pick for The Must See Movie of 2022.

Thor: Love and Thunder

Release Date: July 8, 2022

Unlike Doctor Strange 2, we haven’t had a trailer yet to knock our socks off, but there’s a lot to be excited about in this film. Interesting, Thor is the only founding Avenger and the only MCU hero to get a 4th entry in his series. Taika Watitti has returned to direct Love and Thunder after directing not only the best Thor movie with Thor: Ragnarok, but also one of Marvel’s most beloved film in recent years. It’s a real fan favorite. The biggest draw for me is the debut of Christian Bale as Gorr The God Butcher.

Gorr is one of the coolest and most terrifying Marvel villains to debut in the comics in the last decade, so it’ll be very interesting to see how they plan to portray such a dark and blood thirsty character. Thor won’t have to face Gorr on his own because everyone’s favorite band galactic heroes/outlaws, The Guardians of The Galaxy, will feature heavily in the film.

NOPE

Release Date: July 22, 2022

The next horror film from Jordan Peele about UFO’s? HELL. YES! I cant wait for this one.

TV & STREAMING

The Boys Season 3 (Amazon Prime) 6/3/2022

*For a more detailed look at The Boys Season 3, check out my recent article covering everything you need to know about the new season: https://best-media-world.com/2022/03/19/first-look-the-boys-season-3-trailer-more/

The long awaited return of one of, hands down, one of the best shows on television is finally here! And there’s a hell of a lot to be excited about! Showrunner Eric Kripke has said Season 3 will feature their take on the “HEROGASM!” story line from the comics (And to answer your question: Yes, the story is just as depraved and horrifying as the title would suggest). The season will also see a new addition to the cast, with Jensen Ackles joining the show as, the Captain America-esque, Soldier Boy. This marks a reunion for Eric Kripke and Jensen Akcles, who previously worked together on the hit series, Supernatural. Kripke created the now iconic series, where Ackles played Dean Winchester, one of the show’s two lead characters. The beloved show recently wrapped up it’s incredible, record breaking 15 Season run. Check out the trailer here:

Obi-Wan Kenobi Series (Disney+) 5/27

With the possible exception of The Mandalorian Season 3, there isn’t an upcoming Star Wars project more anticipated the Obi-Wan Kenobi series coming to Disney+. Ewan McGregor is finally making his return to the fan favorite character, but he’s not the only returning character viewers should expect to see. Hayden Christensen is also returning to reprise his role as Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader. Which pretty much guarantees that we’re going to see a rematch between the two, after their epic lightsaber duel on Mustafar in Episode III. In exciting news, it was just announced that the first two episodes will premiere together on May 27th.

Fans had been clamoring for a Kenobi solo project for years, with many people hoping a film focusing on the character would be made under the, “A Star Wars Story“ banner. However, I would argue (and I think most fans would agree) that with all of the incredible storytelling we’ve seen on the Star Wars TV shows, a Disney+ series sounds much more appealing than a 2 hour film. Check out the trailer right here:

The Sandman (Netflix) (TBD)

Like The Lord of The Rings, which was considered to be “un-filmable” for decades, an adaptation of The Sandman would’ve been impossible 15 years ago. Again, like Lord of The Rings, the first obstacle was a technical one. So much of The Sandman is set in places that just simply didn’t exist in the real world. Visual effects would be heavily needed for everything from environment creations, characters, MoCap, augmenting practical effects, and the list goes on and on. We’re finally a point where you can expect to see film quality visual effects and storytelling on a prestige drama on cable or a streaming service. You can see the passion that was put into this project in this Behind-The-Scenes video…

Audiences needed to be ready for this story as well, it’s not something you can watch casually. I think over the last 10 years audiences have been trained by The MCU, Star Wars, Game of Thrones, and other stories that became hits beyond the core audience, to be able to except and buy into a such a sprawling, imaginative fantasy. It’s a truly unique story and I can’t wait to see what they’re doing with it. There hasn’t been official release date announced yet. However we can expect to see the show premiere sometime in Summer 2022. Trust me keep an eye out for this one it’s gonna be something special. Take a look at the first teaser trailer:

The Lord of The Rings: Rings of Power (Amazon Prime) 9/2/22

Amazon Prime’s new take on the classic work ofJ.R.R. Tolkien, taking place during the period surrounding the forging of the original rings of power and Sauron’s eventual rise to The Dark Lord of The Rings. The 8 episode first season cost over $58 Million per episode, making it the most expensive show in TV history. Blowing past the previous titled holder, Marvel’s Disney+ shows, at $25 Million per episode. Here’s the trailer:

Moon Knight (Disney+) 3/30

Well, we don’t have to wait too long for this one, but I felt it was still important to include. Moon Knight is the next Marvel Cinematic Universe series to hit Disney+. The series stars Oscar Isaac as the title character and the always fantastic Ethan Hawke, playing a mysterious new character. Someone at Marvel Studios described the series as “Indiana Jones meets Fight Club”, which is as damn good of a description as I can think of. Moon Knight has some cool supernatural element to it, as well as dealing with a main character who has severe mental health issues. It’s lot to get into, but I think this is going toi be a special one. For once, I wish Marvel would drop alll 6 episodes at when the show premieres. my favorite part about streaming service shows is that the entire season drops when the show premieres. I understand why Disney+ and Marvel don’t adopt that model but every once in a while they could throw us a bone and give us a little treat. Anyway check out the trailer, for a little bit of insight into the series:

The Umbrella Academy (Netflix) 6/22

There isn’t much new info about the umbrella academy season three except for the release date and some cool posters which I have you can see below. If it wasn’t for shows like the boys or invincible, I would say that the umbrella Academy would probably be my favorite superhero show on TV right now I love how offbeat and unique it is and I can’t wait to see the new season.

This season sees The Hargeeve Siblings having to contend with the mysterious Sparrow Academy, who were teased at the end of Season 2.

Ms Marvel (Disney+) 6/6

This poster is cool homage to the comic book.

If Spider-Man were created today, it’d probably look a lot like this. Based on the comic of the same name, Ms. Marvel focuses on New Hersey, high school student Kamala Khan. Kamal is a super hero mega-fan, shocked to find herself incredible new powers. Look for her to be a big player in The Marvels, the upcoming sequel to Captain Marvel.

Avengers: 1,000,000 B.C. (MARVEL) 7/13/22

Writer – Jason Aaron Artist – Kev Walker

One of the most fascinating aspects of Jason Aaron’s current Avengers run, has been the introduction of The Avengers of 1,000,000 B.C. A primordial team of heroes, who came together to protect a vulnerable Earth from all manner of threats, at the dawn of Mankind. The team consisted of Odin (in his youthful, adventurous, Thor-like days), Lady Phoenix (The Phoenix Force possessing one of Earth’s first mutants), Agamotto (as in “The Eye of Agamotto”, Earth’s original Sorcerer Supreme), Black Panther (One of earliest incarnations of Wakanda’s defenders), The Ghost Rider (On a Wooly mammoth), Iron Fist (The first to face Shoa-Lao The Undying and claim the power of The Iron Fist for herself), and The Starbrand (A caveman wielding the power of The Starbrand, Earth’s natural self-defense system. Kind of like the team’s Hulk).

These characters have been an important part of the story since the beginning of Aaron’s run. This one-shot looks to finally shed some light on the larger role they’ll be playing in the major conflict to come, currently being set up in the Avengers books. Though nothing official has been announced yet, there is definitely a big ol’, mega-blockbuster comic book event in the works, involving Earth’s Mightiest Heroes and I suspect this may be the book where we see things start to kick off.

Here’s Marvel’s official synopsis: “They are the defenders of the dawn of time. Marvel’s first and mightiest legacy heroes. But their greatest secrets have never been revealed. Until now. Witness the dark events that shatter their ranks. See how their lives come to shape the entire future of the Marvel Universe. And be there for the monumental event that reunites them one last time: the true story of Thor’s birth.”

From his work on Wolverine to his already classic Thor run, Jason Aaron has been the mastermind behind some of Marvel’s best books. His current Avengers run has been a total blast from the first issue. Like all of his stories, Aaron often introduces concepts, characters, and story arcs, early on in his books that pay off big time later in the story. It feels like something big is right on the horizon, so now would be a great time to dive right in, or even better, get caught up on the story from the beginning with the collected editions that you can pick up anywhere. That may seem like a lot of graphic novels for some of you, however they aren’t dense breeds and they are incredibly fun and exciting, which will make you breeze through these collected additions faster than you probably think. Below is the list of trade paperbacks, starting with Jason Aaron’s 1st Avengers arc ending with the most recent story. From there you’d be pretty much all caught up:

  • Avengers Vol.1 The Final Host
  • Avengers Vol.2 World Tour
  • Avengers Vol.3 War of The Vampires
  • Avengers Vol.4 War of The Realms
  • Avengers Vol.5 Challenge of The Ghost Riders
  • Avengers Vol.6 Starbrand Reborn
  • Avengers Vol.7 The Age of Khonshu
  • Avengers Vol.8 Enter The Phoenix
  • Avengers Vol.9 World War She-Hulk
  • Avengers Vol.10 The Death Hunters (Available in July)

That may seem like a lot of graphic novels to some of you, but they aren’t dense reads, the art is beautifully dynamic, and each story arc is incredibly fun and exciting. Which will make you breeze through these collected editions faster than you probably think. If you’re a MCU fan looking to dive into comics, then this series is a MUST READ!

NEW TRAILER: Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumblerdore!

Hey Everyone,

Paul here…

Despite their critics, I’ve been a big fan of the Fantastic Beasts films from The Wizarding World of Harry Potter. I found the last film in particular to be very good. So I’m very excited for the third entry in the series, especially with the last film’s killer cliffhanger ending! The latest trailer fo has been released and I think it looks pretty damn cool. Mega-powerful wizards like Dumbledore, Grindelwald,  or Creedence, going toe-to-toe, in an all out, epic magical duel, isn’t something we have seen much of in this franchise. If this trailer is to be, believed it looks like we’ll be getting a few of those and then some! Take a look for yourself right here….

FIRST LOOK with NEW TRAILER: Uncharted!

Hey Everyone,

Paul here…

Like most everybody else, I love to play video games when I was a kid. But around the time I was heading into high school I slowly lost interest. Years later, well into my 20s and without a clue about the current state of video games, I was meeting a friend for dinner and we planned to meet at his place first. When I arrived his houses he was playing some game called Uncharted 2…

I couldn’t believe my eyes. When I thought of video games, I thought of donkey Kong country. This was like an incredible combination of a movie and video game. Uncharted I felt like a film that you played, that you participated in. I was so captivated this one experience got me back into video games. Specifically, I really like the adventure, third person, story driven games like the Uncharted series, Batman Arkham series, The Last of Us, etc.

The Uncharted games are arguably the most somatic games that have ever been made. So it’s easy to see how they should translate well into great, Indiana Jones style adventure films. Well this trailer doesn’t quite knock it out of the park from me, I still think this has the potential to be a lot of fun.

Now that Spider-Man: No Way Home has become one of the most successful films of all time, all eyes are on Tom Holland to see if he can still be a draw without the Spidey suit. I think he just needs the right project, hopefully Uncharted is it. Take a look at the new trailer below:

What do you think of Uncharted? Let us know in the comments below!

NEW TRAILER & MORE: The Batman! (UPDATED!)

Hey Everyone,

Paul here…

In the immortal words of Kevin Smith, ”F*ck you, take my money!”. Damn, this looks fantastic. Oh, don’t get me wrong, I think Matt Reeves is a inspired choice for director, the cast is phenomenal (Colin Farrell as The Penguin? That’s worth the price of admission alone), I think Pattinson is going to crush it as Batman. However, I don’t think I really got truly excited until I watched this trailer.

I absolutely adore the looks of the rogues gallery in this movie. In a stroke of genius, The Riddler was clearly inspired by the infamous Zodiac serial killer, resulting in a profoundly disturbing look.

Colin Farrell is unrecognizable as Oswald Cobblepot and anyone who’s been following his work over the last 10 years or so, knows that he’s going to absolutely murder this role.

Finally, Zoe Kravitz looks amazing as Selina Kyle. I love her simple, back to basics look, which is clearly inspired by her appearance in a Frank Miller‘s Batman: Year One. After all, she’s supposed to still be relatively early in her career in this movie.

Then there are these guys, who I’m not quite sure what to make of. If I didn’t know anything about the movie, I would guess that there some version of The Jokerz, a violent gang first introduced in Batman Beyond, who saw themselves carrying on the anarchy and legacy of The Clown Prince of Crime. In Batman Beyond, most if not all were born years after the death of The Joker. They never saw what Gotham was like during a real Joker attack. Because of of The Joker’s “legend”, the gang revered him as an outlaw and anarchist, while in reality they don’t really understand the death and evil that The Joker represented.

Batman Beyond takes place decades in the future where Batman and the Joker haven’t been seen in years and are presumed missing or dead. A group of punks who didn’t really understand the evil that The Joker represented, thought he was just decided to start cool and started The Jokerz. In the years since their formation, they’ve been terrorizing the good, decent people of Gotham. While they aren’t a major threat like Bane, or any other major members of Batman’s rogues gallery, they can still be quite dangerous and violent.

I also have a sneaking suspicion that there may be a few more villains appearing in this film, that they’ve been able to keep hidden from the audience so far.

I’m not the first person to say this, but I have a sneaking suspicion that there’s more to this story than meets the eye. I think it’s possible that The Riddler could have a benefactor, someone pulling his strings. But who? The Joker? Hush? If there is indeed someone behind the curtain, I think villain(s) that makes the most sense in light of this new trailer, would be The Court Of Owls. Green

The Court of Owls are a secret society that have exerted their wealth, influence, and power over Gotham, from the shadows, since the founding of the city. This new trailer makes it clear that Riddler knows Batman is Bruce Wayne and that the central mystery of the story seems to have something to do with The Wayne family. The Waynes are of course, one of the oldest and most respected families in Gotham. In the comics, multiple members of The Wayne family (as well as their lifelong friends, The Pennyworths) had their run-ins with The Court and their deadly enforcers, The Talons.

Talon ( The Court of Owls personal enforcers and assassins)

The Court of Owls are among my favorite modern Batman villains and we haven’t seen them on the big screen yet. Not only would it be great to see something a little different from a Batman antagonist, they’re just plain cool. This is all just speculation, of course. Regardless, this is definitely a movie to keep your eyes on.

The Batman opens 3/4/2022

New The Matrix Resurrections Trailer

Hey Everyone,

Paul here…

Warner Bros. just released a new trailer for The Matrix Resurrections. I’m cautiously optimistic. The trailers have been intriguing, but we’ve been burned so many times before by shitty movies with great trailers. The Matrix is a classic and I’m a big advocate for The Matrix Reloaded. I’d even goi as far to say that I love The Matrix Reloaded. Not to mention The Animatrix which is pretty fucking metal. There’s potential here, that’s for sure. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that the filmmakers can tap into the power of The One and pull another sci-fi masterpiece out of their ass. Crazier things have happened…

Spider-Man: No Way Home Villain Posters! First Look – Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse Teaser!

Hey Everyone,

Paul here…

I’ve been saying this for a while now, but I’m going to formally call it, right here: If Spider-Man: No Way Home actually works and turns out to be at least a solid movie, it is going to be the highest grossing film of all time. I was very wary about everything in this project from the beginning, and the marketing has slowly want me over. Like these cool villain-themed character posters that were just released. I always love a good poster and I hope they do a few more of these posters with the film’s other villains.

Now, I think it’s been a while since my anticipation for a film has been quite this high. Interestingly, while Marvel and Disney make The MCU Spider-Man movies, the characters film rights are still owned by Sony. It’s an unusually smart business relationship, especially in Hollywood where egos and executives without a creative bone in their body tend to fuck up lucrative deals like this. Sony knows that Marvel Studios knocks it out of the park almost every time with their films, and Marvel Studios knows that The MCU would have always felt incomplete, if Spider-Man had never been a part of it. It’s a win-win. The fans are happy, Disney and Sony get dump trucks full of money pulled up their houses. Everyone gets a piece of the pie!

However, there has been an interesting development regarding the release of this highly anticipated upcoming movie. When a new film comes out, critics and entertainment journalists are shown a film, around a few weeks before the movie hits theaters. Occasionally, A studio will have a movie on its hands so bad, that they won’t even bother with doing a press screening. Because the studio knows it doesn’t matter when the movie is see. The reviews will be so bad, that people are going to wipe their ass with the movie’s poster.

Which is why it’s so surprising that when Spider-Man: No Way Home, is screened for critics, they will only be shown 40 minutes of the nearly 2 hour and 40 minute film. Something like this has never really been done before. Which is why, in the opinIon of most movie pundits, myself included, this isn’t a reflection on the movie’s quality in anyway. In fact, most insiders believe the 40 minuet press screening it is all about how this movie is going to be way, way fucking crazier then we thought. Pretty much as soon as the film began pre-production, there were rumors abound about secret cameos (or more than cameos) from characters like Venom to Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield, reprising their roles as the Spider-Man of their respective universes (AKA movie universes). My guess is, forget Tobey and Andrew, there’s going to be some next level shit in this movie and Marvel is going even further than usual to keep any surprises under wraps. Tearing open the multiverse opens up a lot of possibilities.

So here’s my theory, which is just complete speculation, earlier this week Disney+ removed the original Fantastic Four movies, from 2005 and 2007, starring Chris Evans and Jessica alba, from the streaming platform. The final movie thats been officIally announced as part of Phase 4, is Fantastic Four. Marvel’s First Family will finally be joining The MCU and Jon Watts, director of all 3 MCU Spider-Man movies, will be directing FF. Preliminary work is already being done on the film and after No Way Home premieres, Watts will be diving straight into work on Fantastic Four. Per Marvel chose to remove the old fantastic four movies from Disney+ because they’ll be making some kind of cameo or debut in Spiderman far from home and the big guys at marvel don’t want audiences confusing the bold new direction they’ll be taking the characters with dog shit that has come before?

As if we didn’t already have enough Spider-Man news to discuss, Sony just dropped the trailer for Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse, the sequel their mega-hit Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse. I absolutely love the first film. I think it’s genuinely one of the best superhero films that we’ve seen so far.

I’ve been a little bit nervous about this project because I strongly suspect the studio’s priority will be introducing more and more Spider-Men from different alternate realities, where I’d like to see them do something much more character driven. The new trailer does give me some encouragement, though, because even though there’s clearly a multi-verse element at play in the story it focuses on the two characters I most wanted to see, Miles Morales and Gwen Stacy a.k.a. Spider-Gwen a.k.a. Spider-Woman. I’m sure Sony wanted to get this trailer out to capitalize on the buzz and the anticipation for Spider-Man: No Way Home. Anyway, take a look at the teaser for yourself right here:

FIRST LOOK: Jurassic World: Dominion!

Hey Everyone,

Paul here…

As you can see at the bottom of the poster, this movies been delayed awhile.

I’m going to go out on a limb here and say, that Jurassic Park is the most underutilized franchise in modern film history. That first film was groundbreaking in ways that, even today, most people don’t understand. Jurassic Park changed movies forever and became one of the most successful and beloved blockbuster films of all time. The legendary Stan Winston, king of practical effects, and his team created all of the animatronic dinosaurs in the movie. It was the incredible marriage of practice effects and CGI that made the dinosaurs feel so real. While Stan Winston, is an incredibly important part of the success of Jurassic Park. CGI visual effects had never been used to the degree that they were in Jurassic Park. Not even close, not by a mile. Nothing else compares. When Steven Spielberg was developing the movie they were still contemplating using stop motion animation to put the dinosaurs on screen, that’s how new CGI was at the time.  It was a CGI mock up, put together by a couple of the guys at Industrial Light & Magic, just showing the skeleton of a running dinosaurs, that convinced Spielberg CGI visual effects were the way to bring these dinosaurs to life. Spielberg was taking a huge gamble when he made this decision. Because if it didn’t work, it would’ve ruined the whole film. I cannot reiterate enough how new this technology was and how it had never even come close to being used on this scale before.  The closest comparison would probably be the T-1000 in Terminator 2. Morphing, liquid metal is almost laughably simple to compared it to an island theme park, filled with genetically engineered dinosaurs. This was the film that kicked off the CGI revolution in blockbuster filmmaking. Even by today’s standards, the special effects in Jurassic Park hold up 100%. The T-Rex attack is just as spectacular now, as it was when it was in movie theaters.

Next year, we have another Jurassic Park film from director Colin Trevorrow, Jurassic World: Dominion, hitting theatres Summer 2022. Trevorrow’s last entry in the franchise, Jurassic World, was by no means an excellent film, but it’s the only Jurassic Park sequel that actually works. I think with Jurassic World, this was the first time we’ve seen a functioning park in the way John Hammond imagined. It’s just different and creative enough to stand above the other sequels. I particularly enjoyed Chris Pratt and his relationships with the velociraptors. My favorite scene is when a careless worker falls into the Raptor enclosure, prompting Chris Pratt to run straight into the cage without any weapons, and stare down a pack of Velociraptors long enough get his worker to safety. It was so jarring because we had seen over the course of several films how incredibly dangerous and deadly these animals were and here’s this guy standing just a few feet in front of them, completely vulnerable. The scene added a new layer to these fantastic dinosaurs, without taking away their inherent edge and menace. It was a memorable scene involving some of cinema’s best, scariest creatures.

Anyway, It looks like this new installment is finally giving audiences what they’ve been waiting for since the original film premiered. Those dinosaurs captured our imagination. The T-Rex, the Velociraptors, the stuff of cinematic nightmare. I think the question we’ve all been asking pretty much since we walked out of the theatre in 1993 is: What happens if they get off of the island? And that’s exactly what happens at the end of the last film (which was pretty terrible, the movie I mean), setting up what has the potential to be a great story.

Trevorrow didn’t return for the following film, Jurassic World: This Is So Bad I Can’t Even Remember The Name. With Trevorrow otherwise occupied another director was brought in for the last Jurassic World film, and while I don’t remember that particular filmmaker‘s name, he certainly was not up to the task. Luckily, Trevorrow is coming back for this new film and hopefully he can undo the damage done to the franchise.

On the set of Jurassic World: Dominion

Trevorrow was supposed to direct the final film in the Star Wars sequel trilogy, The Rise of Skywalker, but left the product project due to creative differences with Disney. JJ Abrams stepped in for Trevorrow and we ended up with fucking awful entries in 2 different beloved franchises as a result (Star Wars and Jurassic Park). If you’re a curious Star Wars fan, I recommend looking up Trevorrow’s plan for Rise of Skywalker, which are very easy to find online.  I think you’ll agree that what he had planned, would’ve been far better than absolute dog shit we got from JJ Abrams in Episode IX.

Release delays related to the pandemic meant that a lot of film has been completed already, so last year Colin Trevorrow made a short film called Battle at Big Rock, that takes place sometime after the events of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. It’s definitely worth a watch, Especially if you’re a big fan of this franchise. Without spoiling anything, I’ll just say it involves a glimpse of what’s to come, now that humans and dinosaurs are living alongside. Here it is:

The cat is out of the bag. The worst fears of many have come true. We now live in a world where humanity and dinosaurs must adapt to living alongside one another for the first time in the history of other species. What is this due to the ecosystem? How often are people killed by predatory dinosaurs? How does this affect politics? Military? Economics? Academia? Science? I could go on and on. This is what I meant earlier when I said that this is been a incredibly underutilized franchise. You can see how so many different cool stories could be told when, once again, humanity foolishly plays God. Resulting in what’s sure to be a human/dinosaur shit show.

I was also very pleased to hear is that this is going to be more of an ensemble piece. Combining the casts from the recent films and the classics. Meaning Chris Pratt, Jeff Goldblum, Bryce Dallas Howard, Sam Neill, and Laura Dern are all in this film, without one generation necessarily overshadowing the other.

As were heading towards the end of 2021, movie studios are already thinking about their largest projects in the coming year. So even though it’s still quite a few months away, Colin Trevorrow has released a six minute prologue to Jurassic World: Dominion and an accompanying commentary video featuring the director himself, discussing the footage, courtesy of IGN.com. It’s going to be cut from the film, but it’s still good material and it he wanted to put it out online for fans to enjoy. I’d have to agree with the director and say that I found it to be quite entertaining. You can watch the footage and Trevorrow’s breakdown below:
