PODCAST: Movie Theories & Urban Legends!

Hey Everyone,

Paul here…

On this episode of “The World’s Best Podcast”, I talk about some interesting fan theories regarding some of our favorite films, as well as some creepy Hollywood urban legends! For those of you who may not understand, when I say interesting Fan Movie Theories, we’re talking about picking up on subtext, hints, and other clues to formulate fun ideas and theories that aren’t necessary explicit and clear when watching a film. Don’t get me wrong, there have been one or two fan movies theories over the years that more or less turned. However, the vast majority of Fan Movie Theories are bullshit, but they sure are fun to discuss!

To name just a few of the movies covered in this episode:

  • The Dark Knight
  • The James Bond Franchise
  • Joker
  • Serenity
  • And much more!

Here are the 2 videos I referenced in this episode:

NEW TRAILER: Christopher Nolan’s TENET

Hey Everyone,

Paul here…

Summer has always been my favorite season. I love spending an afternoon, sitting under a shady tree, reading a good book or graphic novel. I love going to Cape Cod as often as I can and enjoy the beautiful beaches. Most of all, I love SUMMER MOVIE SEASON. They may not always be the most high brow of films, but Big Summer Blockbusters have always been and always will be, my favorite kind of movies. It’s purest form of the moviegoing experiences. You get your hot popcorn, a cold drink, and hopefully, the world outside of the theatre falls away for a few hours. You can put you problems and worries aside and take a trip to Gotham City or an island resort where cloned dinosaurs roam or a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away… and if anyone understands the cinematic magic of the Summer Blockbuster, it’s Christopher Nolan. The best Summer Blockbusters don’t only offer amazing spectacle, but gripping, fleshed out characters and stories as well. To quote Will Smith, Nolan has become a master of “Popcorn and Prestige” filmmaking. The trailer for his new film Tenet, has dropped and it sure looks like a blast!

Tenet Director, Christopher Nolan

Starring John David Washington, Robert Pattinson, and Michael Caine, Tenet looks to be a thrilling spy film with time travel thrown into the mix. Watch the trailer here and let me know what you think….

Unfortunately, because of the pandemic, Summer Movie Season 2020 is a bust. Most theatres are still closed and only a few movies like Wonder Woman: 1984 are keeping their current summer release dates. While other movie studios and filmmakers are pushing their movies back to next summer or releasing their films on streaming services or On Demand. Come Hell or high water, Christopher Nolan is determined to release Tenet THIS YEAR, IN MOVIE THEATERS. Though originally scheduled for a 7/17/20 release date, it’s possible Nolan may push back the release date to ensure a larger audience. If I to bet on it, I’d say movie end up will hitting theaters in August or November. If they’re not going to stick to the original release date, these are the 2 most logical months for such a high profile project (and Nolan will still be able get the movie in theaters before the end of the year). I suppose we’ll have to wait and see. I know I’m excited!

PODCAST: How To Rob A Bank… with SUPERPOWERS!

Hey Everyone,

Paul here…

On this episode of The World’s Best Podcast, Paul Sr. and I discuss which superpowers would be the most useful if you were robbing a bank? As the discussion continues, more about Paul Sr.’s criminal past emerges…

Considering how often super villains rob banks in comic books, there aren’t that many bank robbery scenes in superhero films. However the few scenes that do exist are all pretty fucking awesome. I can think of three great ones… well, two and a half anyway.

  1. The iconic opening sequence of The Dark Knight, when The Joker and his gang of masked clowns rob a mob bank:

2. The great bank robbery scene in Spider-Man 2, where Doc Ock and The Ole’ Wallcrawler’s clash for the first time:

2b. This is what I meant when I said two and a half great bank robbery scenes in superhero movies. This scene from Spider-Man: Homecoming isn’t quite a bank robbery. It’s a bunch of thugs with high-tech weaponry trying to steal an ATM, but it’s still a lot of fun, so I wanted to include it here:

For more super-powered bank robbing shenanigans, make sure you listen to this episode of The World’s Best Podcast, posted right here.

PODCASTS: The Invisible Man Review! & My Special Appearance On Cuff’s Basement!

Hey Everyone,

Paul here…

This was a busy week, so I was late to post a webpage for the latest episode of The World’s Best Podcast, even though the episode came out earlier this week. I think it worked out well, because the delay meant that way I get to show you guys some cool content related to my review of The Invisible Man and promote my guest appearance on Tim Cuff and Ryan McDonald’s podcast, Cuff’s Basement! Going on that podcast was a lot of fun and you can read all about it below my invisible man review content.

Anyway, on this episode of “The World’s Best Podcast”, I review the excellent new thriller THE INVISIBLE MAN! Full Spoilers!  Listen here: https://www.spreaker.com/episode/23699306  Or subscribe on Stitcher, Spreaker, iHeartRadio, Deezer, Podchaser, Castbox, Podcast Addict, Google Podcasts, & Apple Podcasts/ITunes…

During this weeks episode, I talk about how The Invisible Man is among the roster of Universal’s Classic Movie Monsters

Icons such as, Dracula, The Wolfman, Frankenstein’s Monster, and more. These films are largely the reason vampires, werewolves, and various forms of the undead appear so frequently in our popular culture. There have been literally thousands of TV shows and movies featuring vampires and werewolves (sometimes even both). However, in other cultures around the world vampires and werewolves are far less prevalent in popular culture and take a backseat to other supernatural creatures.

I found this awesome piece of art online that gives us a more gruesome and terrifying look at Dracula, The Wolfman, and Frankenstein’s Monster, without losing the classic Universal Monsters “look” that made them so iconic!

During my review of The Invisible Man, I brought up several scenes I love from other movies starring classic universal monsters. Like this fantastic scene from 1999’s The Mummy starring Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weiss:

I LOVE 1999’s The Mummy and this is probably my favorite scene. Wait until the end, Brendan Fraser’s reaction to seeing The Mummy for the first time is fucking CLASSIC!

I also mentioned the iconic werewolf transformation scene in the film, An American Werewolf In London. As well as the much less iconic, but still interesting transformation scene from Benicio Del Toro‘s remake of The Wolfman. You can watch both clips below:

An American Werewolf in London (1981) Transformation Scene
The Wolfman (2010) Transformation Scene

Here’s a side-by-side comparison between The Invisible Man of 1933 and the new 2020 version (without giving too much away about what makes this new incarnation of The Invisible Man so cool…)

Well, that’s it for my review and coverage of The Invisible Man, but we’re not quite done yet today… Now, let’s switch gears here a little bit! It’s two podcasts for the price of one!

As some of my listeners may know, Ryan McDonald who is a frequent co-host on the The World’s Best Podcast and Tim Cuff who was my original co-host on the show, have their own fun and unique podcast called Cuff’s Basement. It’s hilarious, it’s weird, and it’s a blast to listen to. I recently had the chance to make an guest appearance on Cuff’s Basement, on an episode of the show where Ryan, Tim, and I  each picked our 3 Favorite Comic Book Superhero Movies of all time. Of course, being the comic book movie super fans that we are, this ended up being a three-part episode. You can listen to the first 2 installments of our 3-Part episode right now, through the link to the Cuff’s Basement iTunes feed, which I’ve posted below. While you’re there don’t forget to hit subscribe, so you can listen to Part-3 of our Best Superhero Movies podcast as soon as it’s posted! I had a lot of fun recording this with the guys and I hope you all enjoy listening. Don’t miss it!

-Paul,

TRAILER: Christopher Nolan’s TENET!

Hey Everyone,

Paul here…

Before we get started I have to throw a controversial opinion out there: More often than not, I dislike the work of Christopher Nolan. I know what you’re gonna say “How fucking DARE YOU?!“. Well, put down your pitchforks for a second and hear me out.

Director Christopher Nolan

Without a doubt, Christopher Nolan is a great filmmaker. In fact, I’d go so far to say he’s the closest thing we have to a modern day Spielberg. Like Spielberg, Nolan is able to tap in to that formula of “Popcorn and Prestige“. Coined by Will Smith, “Popcorn and Prestige” refers to movies that are both critical and commercial successes. These are films that appeal to mass audiences, but also get serious recognition during award season. Nolan and Spielberg are the only directors I can think of that embody that idea more. Both filmmakers have a lot of Oscar notches under their belts, but those very same films are often huge audience hits as well.

For me at least, when it comes to Nolan’s movies, The Dark Knight is where the line in the sand is drawn. Up to and including The Dark Knight, I really loved his films. However, after The Dark Knight, I’ve usually disliked Nolan’s subsequent movies. Except Dunkirk which is fucking awesome. I’d like to point out that there’s a big difference between disliking a film and thinking its bad. I’m not saying movies like Inception or Interstellar are necessary bad movies, they just didn’t work for me.

Now, we have Nolan’s new film Tenet hitting theatres later this year. Starring John David Washington (son of the legendary Denzel Washington) and Robert Pattinson (soon-to-be the latest actor to play The Dark Knight Detective himself, Batman). Though he only has a few roles in major projects under his belt, John David Washington is a very talented actor and his star is on the rise. He’s best known for his work on the HBO series Ballers and his starring role in last year’s Spike Lee movie BlacKKKlansman. I have a feeling that if Tenet is a success (and let’s face it, with Nolan’s track record it probably will be), this will be a big breakthrough for Washington.

Then there’s Robert Pattinson, anyone following his career at all over the last few years, knows that his talent lies far beyond playing a sparkly vampires in The Twilight Series. He’s currently getting rave reviews for his performance in The Lighthouse with Willem Dafoe. He’s a great actor who often gets unfairly written off as “the Twilight guy”. With Kenneth Branagh and Michael Caine set to appear in the film, at the very least Tenet has a pretty solid cast going for it.

Like most of Christopher Nolan‘s films, details about Tenet are being kept under wraps. What little we do know describes a action adventure/thriller involving espionage and time travel, which sounds pretty damn cool. take a look at the trailer right here:

Tenet opens on 7/17/20
