Trailers of The Week!

Hey Everyone,

Paul here…

UPDATED: In a move that will have a massive effect on the filmmaking business, Warner Bros/DC have announced that Wonder Woman 1984, will be simultaneously released in theatres and HBO Max on 12/25/20. The movie will be free for anyone with an existing HBO Max subscription, there will be no extra charge like Disney+ did with their release of Mulan earlier this year. This is some damn good new and I’m psyched to finally see WW84!

We will keep you updated as more information becomes available….

Trailers are one of my favorite aspects of the moviegoing experience. Even if the final film turns out to be a complete piece of dog shit, a great trailer can be thrilling and rousing, it can spark your imagination. Of course, as i’ve said in the past, in some ways the art of movie trailers has disappeared for the most part, every once in a while a trailer comes along that blows your socks off. Whenever I find an interesting trailer, I always make a point to post it here on the website to share it with my audience. So I’ve been thinking about making it a little bit more of a formal, weekly column series called “Trailers of The Week”. Sometimes there are trailers that I’d really love to share with you guys, but they don’t necessarily marry their own article here on the website. This way I can let everyone know about all of the interesting trailers I’ve come across each week. Some weeks are going to be better than others, but hopefully will get more fantastic trailers than average ones. So without any further do, I think I have two pretty cool trailers to share with you guys this week.

The first, is the latest trailer for Justice League: The Snyder Cut, premiering on HBO Max early 2021. It contains a lot of footage that we saw in the first trailer, but some interesting moments are expanded, we get a better look at some significant characters, and there is some new and interesting material as well. I have made it no secret that I am extremely excited for this project, I really hope Zack Snyder is able to silence his critics and give us something very unique and interesting for those of you who don’t know at this point the Snyder cut is so long that it’s going to be released as a miniseries on HBO max, I think it’s about five or six hours at this point, I’m not 100% sure. One thing is for sure this is going to be damn interesting superhero project to watch when it finally comes out.

On to our second trailer…

As I’ve mentioned before, I’m a huge fan of the DC Animated Movies that come out three or four times a year. This new film, Batman: Soul of The Dragon, looks particularly interesting. I love the whole retro 70s style and the Bruce Lee, Enter The Dragon “vibe”. Bruce Wayne is one of the best fighters in DC Universe, so it’s very interesting to see a younger Bruce training to become a deadly martial artists. DC Animation have put out their fair share mediocre films, but every now and again they knock one out of the park. Hopefully, Batman: Soul of The Dragon is the former. I love the new aesthetic and unique story. I’m definitely looking forward to give this movie a watch.

Batman: Soul of The Dragon: Available digitally on 1/12/21 and on Blu-Ray on 1/26

Justice League: The Snyder Cut: Premiering on HBO Max sometime in the first half of 2021

PODCAST: Mortal – Movie Review!

Hey Everyone,

Paul here…

2011’s Trollhunter directed by Andre Ovredal is one of my favorite movies of the decade. I’m not saying it’s a masterpiece, but it is a fantastic film and a personal favorite. If you haven’t seen it, the movie is exactly what the title suggests, it’s a found footage style film about a documentary team, following around a guy who hunts trolls in Norway. Trust me, it’s way cooler than I’m making it sound and I highly recommend checking it out. What makes it so unique and so much fun is that it’s a pretty grounded, gritty movie. Which is why I was so excited to see the director’s latest film, Mortal, but I’ll get back to that in a minute.

Ovredal also directed the recent adaptation of Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark, which was produced by Guillermo Del Toro. Though I’m not sure if it was a massive hit, it was still a damn good film and another reason to think that Ovredal was a up-and-coming director to keep an eye on.

When I saw the trailer for Mortal a few months ago, I couldn’t wait to see it. The idea of Ovredal tackling a different piece of folklore and mythology like the Norse gods, with the sensibilities he brought to Trollhunter, sounded wonderful. You can see the trailer for Mortal yourself, right here:

So on this episode of The World’s Best Podcast, after finally getting to see this movie, I give my review of Andre Ovredal’s Mortal * starring Nat Wolff. On a side note, we also have a quick update on the next MCU project to hit the screens, WandaVision on Disney+! So, as always, thanks for listening and enjoy!

*Mortal is available to rent or own on iTunes, AmazonPrime Video, and On Demand.

FIRST LOOK: The Conjuring 3: The Devil Made Me Do It!

Hey Everyone,

Paul here…

Happy Halloween everybody! All Hallows’ Eve is upon us once again, what better way to pay tribute to my favorite holiday than to give you an update on the next film in one of my favorite horror movie franchises: The Conjuring films! I’ve often said, horror is a lot like comedy, they’re both subjective. What makes one person laugh, might disgust the next person. What scares one person, might not scare another. What makes The Conjuring 1&2 a cut above the rest, is that they’re not just great horror films, first and foremost they’re just great films. Even if the scares in the movies don’t quite do it for you, the filmmakers are talented enough to make sure that there’s a great story and fascinating characters at the heart of these movies.

I adore The Conjuring films directed by the prolific James Wan (Insidious, Star Trek Beyond, Aquaman, multiple Fast & Furious films) and starring Patrick Wilson and Vera Farminga as Ed and Lorraine Warren, respectively. The films have been successful enough to create a Conjuring “Universe”, a set of movies, of varying quality, spun off from the main Conjuring films. Movies like Annabelle, The Nun, Annabelle Comes Home and a few more. Well, I’m happy to report that after the success of the first 2 Conjuring films, the cast and filmmakers are returning for The Conjuring 3. They’ve released this cool “First Look” trailer, which you can check out right here:

I think this is a cool new direction to take the series in. Each of The Conjuring films have been based on “actual events” to one degree or another, so I’m happy to see that tradition continue. The film’s writer David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick wrote on Twitter that “The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It is a completely different movie than the first two. The franchise is expanding beyond the ‘haunted house’ formula.“. The premise of a man on trial for murder, pleading innocent by reason of demonic possession, sounds like a lot of fun. Even though there has been a supernatural/courtroom drama before, in the film The Exorcism of Emily Rose from Scott Derrickson, director of The MCU’s Doctor Strange, this sounds just different enough to make me really excited to see this when it hits… theaters… or streaming… or who fucking knows? It was originally scheduled for a September 2020 release, but obviously that didn’t happen. I don’t care what form it’s released in, I know I’ll see it!

Some of the monsters and demonic entities from The Conjuring Universe

I also wanted to show you all that Warner Bros., has been releasing some excellent behind-the-scenes content, documentaries, and interviews lately. Considering that Warner Bros. is such a massive company, with so many different intellectual properties at their disposal, there has been an incredibly eclectic amount of film and TV related content released over the last few weeks, and I’m not sure why. Maybe it’s a new marketing initiative to get fans excited about upcoming projects or something? Regardless of the reason, I’ve seen some incredibly interesting videos pop up on everything from Batman: The Animated Series and The Christopher Nolan Dark Knight Trilogy to Harry Potter and Supernatural. Now, Warner Bros. has released this fantastic behind-the-scenes look at The Conjuring series. It shows you all the writers, directors, producers, actors, special fx, make up design. and everything it takes to create a movie like The Conjuring, let alone an incredible series of films! It’s really interesting and I highly encourage you to give her give it a watch!

So are you looking forward to The Conjuring 3? What are some of your secret horror movie series? Please let me know in the comments below!

FIRST LOOK: Tom Holland as Nathan Drake In The Upcoming UNCHARTED Movie!

Hey Everyone,

Paul here…

Tom Holland as Nathan Drake

This week we got our first look at Tom Holland is Nathan Drake in the upcoming Uncharted film, (which you can see in the above photo) an adaptation of the ultra popular video game series of the same name. Nathan Drake is basically a modern day Indiana Jones and I mean that comparison in the best possible way. Despite the similarities of the two characters, Nathan Drake isn’t just a rip off of Henry Jones Jr. Drake has stood out as an iconic and compelling, fan favorite, video game hero for years.Uncharted always seemed like a no brainer for adaptation to the big screen. After all, the games are so incredibly cinematic themselves.

Tom Holland (Right) talking to Nolan North (Left), the voice of Nathan Drake in the video game series

There have been a few attempts to bring an Uncharted films to cinemas, most notably David O. Russell (The Fighter) was attached to direct with Mark Wahlberg starring Nathan Drake. It seemed like Russell didn’t really understand what made the Uncharted series so fantastic in the first place. His take on the story was so vastly different from the source material that, except for the title and the names of the characters, it was an Uncharted film in name alone. That is well as the seemingly odd casting of Wahlberg as Drake, made me breath a sigh of relief when this particular attempt at making an Uncharted movie, fell apart.

The fan favorite choice for the role has always been Nathan Fillion. Most well known for playing Capt. Mal Reynolds in the TV series Firefly and the sequel film Serenity, as well as his role as a crime author in the television series Castle. While he would’ve been incredible in the role of Nathan Drake, he had sadly aged out of the part and he was never quite a big enough meme to be considered seriously in earlier attempts to adapt an Uncharted film. However, a few years ago, he played Nathan Drake in a fantastic short film that he also produced. It’s fucking great. It’s very, very fun and really cool. You can watch it right here and I highly recommend that you take a look…

Now, we have our first look at Tom Holland as Nathan Drake. I’ve gotta say, it looks pretty much dead on. I’ve heard a few people say that Holland is too young for the role, which is a fair criticism. Drake is classically portrayed as being a bit older. In the first Uncharted game, he’s roughly between his late 20’s and early 30’s. However, throughout the series we see Nathan Drake at many different points in his life, all the way from a young orphan boy to a middle aged man. Glimpses of the character’s past as a young adventurer, we’re not unheard of in the games. So it’s not as if we haven’t seen a younger Drake in the video game series before. Looking at it optimistically, if the film does well, Holland’s ages is actually an asset because he’s certainly not going to age out of the part anytime soon. Let’s not forget, most of us may look at Tom Holland and associate him with the role of Peter Parker in The MCU, but he’s also an extremely talented and accomplished actor outside of his superhero work. As anyone who has seen the recent Netflix film, Devil All The Time, can attest to.

In another interesting bit of casting news, even though he’s no longer portraying Nathan Drake, Mark Wahlberg is still set to appear in the film in a major role. Wahlberg will be playing fan favorite character, Sully, Drake’s mentor, partner, friend, and father figure. For much of the series Sully is the closest thing Drake has to a family (that may or may not change as the story progresses, but I’ll say no more for fear of future spoilers). This is another instance where someone may point out that Wahlberg is a little too young to play the role of Sully, which is true, but it’s perfectly age-appropriate for the younger version of Drake that they’re going for here. Casting Wahlberg still makes him the older mentor figure, without changing the age gap between the two characters. Holland has already shown his ability to play protégé opposite a superstar actor without letting himself get overshadowed. Mark Wahlberg wouldn’t be my first choice to play Sully, but I’m excited to see what he’ll bring to the role and just what his chemistry on screen with Tom Holland will look like. The relationship between Nathan Drake and Sully is arguably the most important in the entire series, so it’s very important that they get this one right.

All in all, from the very little we have seen, I like what we have been shown so far. Hopefully will get a better glimpse at the movie with a trailer or poster, in the near future. Let’s also hope that by the time this movie comes out, we can actually go see it in a movie theater! So what are you guys think? Do you like Tom Holland as Nathan Drake? What about Mark Wahlberg as Sully? Please let me know in the comments below!

NEW TRAILER THURSDAY: The Mandalorian Season 2 & Stephen King’s The Stand!

Hey Everyone,

Paul here…

One of the most successful series of 2019, The Mandalorian, returns for Season 2 on 10/30 on Disney+. As we see in this new trailer, Mando and The Kid will still be on the run from Giancarlo Esposito’s Dark Saber wielding, Moff Gideon. However what’s really exciting this year is the inclusion of new characters from Star Wars lore joining the show in Season 2. Of course some familiar faces from Season 1, like Carl Weathers and Gina Carano are returning to the show. However, many fans will be focused on the new characters, some of which are making their live action debut. Rosario Dawson has joined the cast as the former apprentice of Anakin Skywalker, Ashoka Tano. Ashoka left the Jedi Order shortly before Anakin went to the Darkside. She never quite left the fight though and has continued on as a Grey Jedi of sorts. Ashoka is one of the stand characters in both Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars: Rebels, seeing Rosario Dawson‘s take on the live action version of the character is very exciting. We can also expect to see Battlestar Galactica’s Katee Sakoff as Bo Katan, a Mandalorian rebel leader who fought in The Clone Wars. Finally, in what has been the years in the making for many fans, personally I could take it or leave it, Boba Fett will be making his official appearance on the show this season. So we’ve got a lot of exciting stuff to look forward to starting October 30th…

With the possible exception of The Dark Tower series, many consider The Stand to be Stephen King’s magnum opus. The story follows the survivors of a deadly pandemic that has wiped out the vast majority of the earths population. The survivors find themselves caught in a very real struggle between the forces of good and evil, personified in the form of the loving Mother Abigail played by Whoppi Goldberg and the evil supernaturally powered Randal Flagg, played by Alexander Skarsgard.

(L) Mother Abagail (Whoopi Goldberg); (R) Randall Flagg (Alexander Sarsgard)

The cast also includes James Marsden, Amber Heard, and Nat Wolff. The limited series premieres on CBS All Access on 12/17/20…

The Stand has been of Stephen King’s most influential novels. To this day, genre shows like Lost cite the book as a huge inspiration for the series. Here are some cool images released along with the trailer:

Cool Star Wars Video: What If Order 66 Failed?

Hey Everyone,

Paul here…

One of the things I love about having a platform like World’s Best Media, is that I have the opportunity to share content from other talented creators, that people might not otherwise see. There are so many fantastic filmmakers, artists, musicians, and more out there, whose work often gets overlooked. So when I found this very cool video I knew I had to post it. This animated video basically shows us a possible alternate narrative for Star Wars. Using a unique style of animation, this video asks the question: What if Order 66 failed? Anakin has still gone to The Dark Side and a lot of Jedi have died. But what if it wasn’t quite the decimation of The Jedi Order that we see in Revenge of The Sith? In this cool video I’ve posted below, we get to see what might have been. Enjoy…

I think this is probably how things would’ve played out if Order 66 failed. I love the idea of seeing an older Anakin Skywalker, who has gone full Dark Side, but without the debilitating injuries that put him in his iconic Darth Vader suit. Then escaping prison after years of confinement, to face his grown Jedi children. Very cool. It’s almost like “elseworlds” stories frequently seen in comic books.

This project was done by Star Wars Theory on YouTube. They have a lot of awesome videos and I definitely recommend checking them out. You can subscribe to their YouTube channel through this link: https://www.youtube.com/c/StarWarsTheory

New Trailer: WandaVision!

Hey Everyone,

Paul here…

As a diehard Marvel Cinematic Universe fan, I feel like I’m going through MCU withdrawals. If it wasn’t for this fucking COVID-19 pandemic, we’d have already seen the much anticipated Black Widow movie, The Falcon and The Winter Soldier would be streaming on Disney+, and we’d be gearing up for the release of The Eternals in a little over a month. I know there are much, much worse things that are happening because of the COVID-19 outbreak and the pandemic is just one of the many shitty things that have happened during this awful year. In my lifetime, I don’t think there’s been a more horrific year for America than 2020 (Let’s just hope 2021 will be an improvement). So by comparison it may seem a little silly to be complaining about a few movies and TV shows that we weren’t able to watch. However, the stories told like the ones in the MCU, allow people an escape from the terrible things going on in the real world, even if it’s just for a little while. It’s like I always say, you can’t underestimate the profound effect of storytelling. Stories are huge part of what makes us human.

On the bright side, they say absence makes the heart grow fonder. It almost seems appropriate for audiences to get a break from the MCU for a little while. Marvel just finished telling one epic story with The Infinity Saga and the next Marvel project to come out will be the beginning of a whole new chapter in The MCU. Finally after delays and rescheduling we finally know what story is going to kick off Phase 4 of The MCU: WandaVision on Disney+. The first trailer for the new miniseries has just been released and you can check it out below. It looks trippy as hell in the best possible way. I have a little bit more I want to say about this very unique looking story, but for now I’ll just start by posting the new trailer. Take a look:

WandaVision doesn’t have a definitive release date yet, but it will premiere before the end of the year. Expect to see WandaVision premiere on Disney+ sometime around early December. So what did you folks think of the trailer for WandaVision? Let me know in the comments below!
