TRAILERS OF THE WEEK – The Boys: Season 3! She-Hulk: Attorney At Law!

Hey Everyone,

Paul here…

We have a couple of pretty cool trailers this week, with the new trailer for Season 3 of AmazonPrime’s The Boys, as well as our first look at the upcoming MCU Disney+ series, She-Hulk: Attorney At Law! Both trailers a very exciting for their own reasons, but check them out below and then we’ll get into some interesting details about these upcoming shows…

The Boys: Season 3

At this point, what more is there to say about The Boys? We already know the show is fantastic and I have no doubt that the new season will deliver just as much, if not more, than the previous seasons. I love seeing Homelander beginning to seriously go off the deep end. It looks like Maeve is beginning to proactively work against Vought a bit more, which is interesting. It seems like Hughie has some level of authority over Butcher now. Which led the great line from Mallory (their old boss) to Butcher ”You’ve even started taking Hugh Campbell’s orders without strangling him.”.

However, there was one thing problem I had that was on display in the trailer. In the comics, The Boys using something similar to Compound-V to level the playing field against the supes, is introduced fairly early in the series. So I didn’t really like M.M.’s sanctimonious “you’ve become the thing you hate! Blah, blah, blah“ schtick. If you’re going up against enemies with the power of gods, a move like this seems inevitable. So hopefully, that’s not a major subplot and this becomes a tool that The Boys use on a semi-regular basis when they need it .

Then, of course, the other big deal in Season 3 that has a lot of people excited, is Jensen Ackles joining the cast as Soldier Boy. We see much more of him in this new trailer and goddammit, he looks pretty damn cool. I feel like he’s going to be the wild card of the season. He’s the X factor. He doesn’t seem to be towing the Vought company line, but he doesn’t seem like a guy who’d necessarily become a straight up ally to Butcher and The Boys either. So it will be really interesting to see how his character is used and how his story plays out over the season. Ackles is a talented actor with a lot of range and I think he’s going to get a lot of attention with this role. The premiere can’t get here soon enough!

The Boys Season 3 begins streaming on PrimeVideo June 3rd.

She-Hulk: Attorney At Law

While I’ve always liked the character of Bruce Banner’s cousin, Jennifer Walters, I was surprised how much I loved the trailer for She-Hulk: Attorney At Law. The tone feels exactly right for a show like this and I thought She-Hulk’s character design really worked (I’ll get to the CGI/VFX in a minuet).

Let’s not forget some of the interesting familiar faces who show up in the trailer. It’s great to see Tim Roth back as Emil Blonsky a.k.a. The Abomination. We last saw him in Shang-Chi and The Legend of The Ten Rings, taking on Wong in a superhuman cage fighting tournament and it appears as if he’s been, at least a little bit, rehabilitated. Because after the fight in Shang-Chi, in the locker room he and Wong are clearly friends. Wong then opens a portal and walks through with The Abomination into a room that appears to be the same one that we see Tim Roth being kept in, in this new trailer.

Of course, I’ll take any excuse to see Mark Ruffalo pop up as Bruce Banner/The Hulk (some of you may disagree, but I love that he’s still in Professor Hulk-mode). Not to mention the persistent rumors that this is where we’ll see Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock/Daredevil again after his official re-introduction into the main MCU in Spider-Man: No Way Home. Considering that Matt Murdock is a lawyer and this series is dealing with the creation of a superhuman law division, it makes a lot of sense for the character to make an appearance.

Something important to keep in mind when watching this trailer, is how on projects like this, the visual effects are continuing to be worked on and perfected up to the last moment. So while some of the She-Hulk rendering may not have been pitch perfect, the special effects wizards working on the show have literally months to perfect the process. I have no doubt that when the show premieres, we will have an impressive looking She-Hulk.

She-Hulk: Attorney At Law premieres on Disney+ August 13th.

NEW TRAILER THURSDAY: The Mandalorian Season 2 & Stephen King’s The Stand!

Hey Everyone,

Paul here…

One of the most successful series of 2019, The Mandalorian, returns for Season 2 on 10/30 on Disney+. As we see in this new trailer, Mando and The Kid will still be on the run from Giancarlo Esposito’s Dark Saber wielding, Moff Gideon. However what’s really exciting this year is the inclusion of new characters from Star Wars lore joining the show in Season 2. Of course some familiar faces from Season 1, like Carl Weathers and Gina Carano are returning to the show. However, many fans will be focused on the new characters, some of which are making their live action debut. Rosario Dawson has joined the cast as the former apprentice of Anakin Skywalker, Ashoka Tano. Ashoka left the Jedi Order shortly before Anakin went to the Darkside. She never quite left the fight though and has continued on as a Grey Jedi of sorts. Ashoka is one of the stand characters in both Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars: Rebels, seeing Rosario Dawson‘s take on the live action version of the character is very exciting. We can also expect to see Battlestar Galactica’s Katee Sakoff as Bo Katan, a Mandalorian rebel leader who fought in The Clone Wars. Finally, in what has been the years in the making for many fans, personally I could take it or leave it, Boba Fett will be making his official appearance on the show this season. So we’ve got a lot of exciting stuff to look forward to starting October 30th…

With the possible exception of The Dark Tower series, many consider The Stand to be Stephen King’s magnum opus. The story follows the survivors of a deadly pandemic that has wiped out the vast majority of the earths population. The survivors find themselves caught in a very real struggle between the forces of good and evil, personified in the form of the loving Mother Abigail played by Whoppi Goldberg and the evil supernaturally powered Randal Flagg, played by Alexander Skarsgard.

(L) Mother Abagail (Whoopi Goldberg); (R) Randall Flagg (Alexander Sarsgard)

The cast also includes James Marsden, Amber Heard, and Nat Wolff. The limited series premieres on CBS All Access on 12/17/20…

The Stand has been of Stephen King’s most influential novels. To this day, genre shows like Lost cite the book as a huge inspiration for the series. Here are some cool images released along with the trailer:

PODCAST: Aquaman Review (SPOILERS)!

Hey Everyone,

Paul here…

4CB0021F-4FDB-4AF1-88A1-0CDEBEE27A8C

Aquaman is the latest entry in the DCEU or “The Worlds of DC” as it’s officially called… but FUCK THAT! They’re stuck with the DCEU as far as I’m concerned! Name your own movie universe or someone else will do it for you, dammit!  You don’t get to, all of us sudden, finally give a name to already struggling, shitty Movie Universe after it’s been in existence for five goddamn years! (Ok… deep breat… rant over.)

My father (though I’m still holding out hope that my biological father is the mailman) Paul Sr. and I just came out of the new AQUAMAN film and decided to have a little discussion about it. We do go into some SPOILER territory, so BEWARE.

6A84D823-AF01-453B-B573-DCDBA5DD220E   With movies like this, we usually do a deep dive spoiler filled review, covering the entire film from beginning to end,  analyzing the story, as well as  the characters. This time was a little different, because we basically just sat around and had a conversation about the film. What we liked, what we didn’t like, our thoughts and the characters and the action sequences, etc.

We discuss Jason Mamoa in the title roll, Amber Heard as Mera, the villains: King Orm AKA Ocean Master & Black Manta, as well as where the films falls in quality among the other DCEU films. Check Out These Awesome New AQUAMAN Movie Character Posters!

Hey Everyone,

Paul here…

Aquaman is fast approaching it’s release date and I am filled with both extreme excitement and dread. Everything I’ve seen from the trailers and promotional material looked fantastic. Despite how unbelievably cool the trailer looks, we all know how, now more than ever, a great trailer doesn’t make a good movie (cough*suicidesquad*cough). It seems like director James Wan could be delivering on some really unique and fun world building. Seeing Atlantis and characters like Black Manta, Ocean Master, and even creatures like The Trench, being brought to life is so thrilling. Just a quick aside, even though we really do get some terrible superhero movies, we should appreciate this golden age of having some of our most wonderful dreams from our favorite comic books brought to life on the big screen and TV. Anyway, I love how Wan even managed to give us the classic Aquaman costume. Which brings me to another point, despite how much I dislike Justice League, I thought Jason Momoa did a great job for what they gave him. So he definitely has the charisma to make Aquaman a memorable hero, if he’s given a good film to showcase the character.

It’s really a shame the way DC chose to go about making these films. As I sit here writing this article, I’m imagining all the cool things that could have been had they just taken their time and done movies like Wonder Woman, Aquaman (God willing), and yes even Man of Steel, from the beginning and then built on that.

I really think the wild card here, that makes this film stand out from other movies from The Worlds of DC (Yes, that is now the official name for the DC Cinematic Universe) is the director, James Wan. He’s a prolific filmmaker behind some excellent movies in completely different genres (Insidious, The Conjuring 1 & 2, Furious 7). He’s also directing the pilot and executive producing the upcoming new, live action Swamp Thing series on the streaming service DC Universe. I find myself coming out of his films thinking that what I saw wasn’t just a great action movie or a great horror movie, but just a great movie period. I’m cautious optimistic that he’s going to crush this flick.

So, over at EW.com they had a set of new character posters for the upcoming Aquaman film. If this movie ends up being good at all, I think I definitely might have to snag a Black Manta or Aquaman poster (I think those are the 2 coolest ones). I honestly think they all look pretty cool though. Take a look below. Which character posters are your favorite? Are you guys looking forward to Aquaman as much as I am? Or do you think it’s going to be a Suicide Squad level disaster? Please let me know in the comments below and thanks for reading!
