THE FLASH: New Trailer!!!

Hey Everyone,

Paul here…

Last week was the annual Cinema-Con event. Movie studios give presentations to all of the major movie theater chains from around the country, to promote the major films they have coming out for the year. The studios want the theater owners to get excited about their biggest films to get them on as many screens as possible. Most of the presentations of trailers, scenes from a film, appearances from directors and stars. But occasionally studios will show films in their entirety at the event, often months before the movie’s premiere. Studios only do this if the have a tremendous amount of confidence in the film they’re showing. A recent example was when Paramount screened Top Gun: Maverick at Cinema-Con, a film that would go on to become one of the biggest commercial and critical hits of the last few years. In some circles (Quentin Tarantino, for one), Top Gun: Maverick was even credited as having a large roll in reviving the movie theater industry. So when news comes out that a studio is planning to screen one of their movies at Cinema-Con, it’s a pretty big deal. So when Warner Bros. announced that they’d be screening The Flash at Cinema-Con, it got the attention of a lot of people.

To say The Flash solo movie has had a bumpy road to the big screen would be an understatement. With an original release date of March 2018, behind the scenes drama plagued the films development, causing the film’s release date repeatedly pushed back. From the jump, Warner Bros completely lacked any real plan or vision for their DC films beyond a vague attempt to duplicate the success of The Marvel Cinematic Universe. Multiple directors were attached to the movie only to subsequently leave the project. Even when the movie was finally completed, The Flash was dragged. Greatinto another massive shit storm with Ezra Miller’s very public break down last year.

Despite all of it’s problems, the buzz surrounding the movie itself was extremely positive. James Gunn was on record saying The Flash was one of the best comic book movies he’d ever seen (considering that he’d recently become the head of DC Studios, most people took that statement with a grain of salt). Miraculously however, it look like Gunn may be proven right after all. Since it was screened at Cinema-Con, the consensus among those that have seen The Flash, is extremely positive. The general reception seems to be that the movie is excellent. In spite of it’s production problems, this movie has some big things going for it.

The return of Michael Keaton’s Batman, is a huge draw for audience. And people who love comic book, movies, and people who just love movies in general will both be excited about his return to this classic character. Keaton’s Batman is the wildcard. Out of all the actors who played The Caped Crusader, no one has portrayed Bruce’s rage and mental instability, quite as well as Michael Keaton. Getting a look at how that guy, that character has evolved over the last 30 years is really fucking interesting.

The film also has some very talented people behind the scenes. Such as director Andy Muschietti, the filmmaker behind the fantastic IT movies (a director who has apparently knocked this one out of the park, too). Early word is that it’s total blast, the performances are great, and there are quite a few surprises.

I’ve been looking forward to The Flash for quite awhile, so I was very happy to hear that the final product sounds like it’s gonna be something pretty special. Check out the new trailer right here.

It’s sort of funny and ironic that Michael Keaton’s Batman is much older than the last time we saw him play The Dark Knight on the big screen, yet he’s far more agile and physically formidable than he was 30 years ago. Comic book movies were still a joke before 1989’s Batman. Superhero films weren’t all that common when he first played Batman in the original Tim Burton movies. The Batman suit was a giant, uncomfortable, thick piece of rubber, so much so that the actors and stunt men could barely move in it. Looking back on those Batman films, you’ll notice, whenever Batman hast to look to the left, or to the right, he can’t actually turn his head. He had to turn his entire torso, because he couldn’t move his head., which looks really weird. That was just a result of the filmmaking imitations of the time. So it will be really cool and exciting to see a Michael Keaton Batman that is actually physically formidable.

Here’s the official synopsis: Barry Allen uses his super speed to change the past, but his attempt to save his family creates a world without super heroes, forcing him to race for his life in order to save the future.

The Flash hits theaters on June 16, 2023

Grant Gustin’s Flash (The TV/Arrowverse Flash) was rumored to be, but is NOT appearing in the movie. I just thought this was a cool piece of concept art

FIRST LOOK: The Flash! New Posters! Videos! & More!

Hey Everyone

Paul here…

Hands-down, DC/WB”s upcoming movie The Flash is by far my most anticipated film of the year. The return of Michael Keaton as Batman! Supergirl! Dark Flash! The DCEU spin on the classic Flashpoint storyline! That KILLER trailer! The return of General Zod! It all looks fucking great.

Plus, say what you want about the guy, but I really like Ezra Miller as The Flash (or more specifically Barry Allen). I do think that when they’re done with Miller, because let’s be real his relationship with Warner Bros. as this character is going to be done after this film, they should make Wally West their new Flash, instead of just re-casting Barry Allen.

Wally West: The One, True Flash!

Alongside Barry/The Flash, It looks like the most important characters in the upcoming film, are Michael Keaton’s Batman and Supergirl. This reality’s twisted reflection of the classic The DC Trinity (Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman in the main DCU).

The Trinity from The Flash…

Which I am all about! Because I’ve loved everything I’ve seen about this new Supergirl and once again, give me some Michael Keaton as Batman ALL. DAY. LONG. Which brings me to today‘s topic. As some of you may know, I love me a good movie poster. I love a good movie poster almost as much as I love a good trailer. Well, that’s over stating things a little bit. However, I believe that movie posters are an art form. A great movie poster cannot only sell the shit out of a film, but it can be a work of art. I have countless books solely on the art of movie posters. Books collecting some of the classic movie posters of our time. A great movie poster can capture the imagination. Which is why I was excited to see Warner Bros./DC Studios premiere, these three, very cool character posters for their upcoming Flash film. Take a look.

All in keeping with the them of this universe’s DC Trinity. Speaking of Supergirl, I’m particularly happy to see her included in this film, because Zack Snyder actually set up her presence in the DCEU all the way back in Man of Steel. In the films first act, when Clark discovers the Kryptonian scout ship, he notices pods filled with the bodies of dead Kryptonians, except one of the pods was open, with no body inside. Implying that someone got out alive. Fans, of course, took notice of this and when asked about it, Zack Snyder insinuated that, that was indeed an Easter egg intended to set up Supergirl.

Anyway, as a big fan of Zack Snyder’s Justice League Trilogy, I thought this vide was cool:

James Gunn, the new co-head of DC Studios has repeatedly stated his “love” for The Flash film, calling it “one of the best superhero movies ever made.”. As the co-head of DC Studios and director of the upcoming Superman: Legacy, Gunn may be a little bias. However, Tom Cruise, who many credited with helping to save the moviegoing industry with last year’s mega hit Top Gun: Maverick, was asked by WB CEO David Szazlav to screen the film and give his thoughts. After a print was delivered to Cruise’s home and he watched the movie, Cruise not only “loved it’, but he was so impressed, he called director Andy Muschietti to rave about the film and told the director “This is everything you want in a movie. It’s the kind of film we need now.”. That is one HELL of an endorsement!

…And just to wrap things up, not for nothing, but the McFarlane Action Figures for The Flash and Keaton’s Batman for this movie look sick! Needless to say, there’s a lot of reasons to be excited for this film!

The Flash opens in theaters June 16th, 2023!

SUPER BOWL TRAILERS!!!

Hey Everyone,

Paul here…

It’s Super Bowl Sunday and to all us movie fans out there, that mean new trailers for some of the year’s most anticipated movies and TV shows. I’ll be updating the site throughout the evening as new trailers drop, so keep it here at World’s Best Media!

The Flash (6/16)

Man, they didn’t waste any time! I know there’s some controversy surrounding this movie, but this looks fucking awesome!

This is the shorter trailer that aired during the game, but it still has some cool stuff that isn’t in the full trailer.

Guardians of The Galaxy Vol.3 (5/5)

Indiana Jones and The Dial of Destiny (6/30)

This is easily in my top 3 most anticipated movies of the year. I love everything that I’ve seen so far. By the way, I do plan on posting an article about my most anticipated movie and TV projects of 2023, so keep an eye out for that. In the meantime, enjoy this look at the epic return of Dr. Henry Jones Junior

Creed III (3/3)

FAST X (5/16)
We’ve seen a lot of cinema’s greatest heroes in these trailers, but they all stand in the shadow of one man: Domenic Toretto. Less than a god, but more than a man. With Dom, it’s all about Family, La Familia. God help anyone who stands between Dom and his La Familia, because no one else will… Here’s the spot that aired during the game and below that is the full trailer

Review: KRYPTON Season 1 Finale

8A55D4CD-9194-4376-BBEC-75CDEF27BED5

I know enough about how television shows work behind the scenes to know when a show is saving its money for something big. You think those dragons on Game of Thrones are fucking cheap?! Well, they ain’t! AND Krypton doesn’t have a fraction of the budget that GoT does. Episode 9 of Krypton’s 10 episode first season had a lot of scenes “in the tunnels” or “in a hidden bunker”, basically sets they already built, dressed up to look like different locations, so they could save all the big bucks for a grand, epic ending. So, I knew this week’s season finale of Krypton was going to be big. I must say the show did not really disappoint.

Our hero, a Seg-El. Superman’s grandpappy.

I’ve often lamented how DC characters can be done so well on TV and so very, very shitty on the big screen. Krypton is another sad reminder of this.On paper, Krypton sounds awful. I really thought the concept was terrible: “A prequel set on Krypton focusing on Superman’s grandfather.” WHO GIVES A FUCK?! RIGHT? Sometimes it’s great to be so wrong. The show was so much more than the above synopsis and ended up being one of the most pleasant surprises of the first part of 2018.

Brainiac’s gigantic ship descending on Kandor

The Big Bad of the show’s first season has been Brainiac, who’s been handled extremely well. The casting, actor Blake Ritson (Da Vinci’s Demons), and character design were damn near perfect. When your biggest complaint is that you want to see more of a character, they’re doing something right.

Brainiac gazing out onto the latest piece in his “collection”

As the finale begins, Brainiac has descended on the Kryptonian city of Kandor. The end is fucking nigh. The main character, our hero, Seg-El (played by the oh so man pretty Cameron Cuffe) or just Seg, is doing whatever he can to stop Brainiac. To make matters worse, classic DC space adventurer Adam Strange isn’t the only one to travel from to the past to save the future, so has General Zod (Yes. THAT General Zod!) played by Colin Salmon from Arrow and the Bronson James Bond flicks.

KNEEL BEFORE ZOD!

Zod wants to prevent the destruction of Krypton and with all the knowledge of the universe, different alien races, and the abilities that Kryptonian ‘s can you develop under a yellow sun under his belt, he wants to usher in a Kryptonian dynasty that will rule the galaxy. This guy is just a fuckwit. Adam Strange had the right idea when he straight up tried to kill Zod the second he saw him earlier in the season. Speaking of Adam Strange…

Adam Strange tries to kill Zod as soon as he sees him, which is a very smart call. On the left is Lyta, Seg’s on/off girlfriend and high ranking military officer.

Adam Strange giving Superman’s Cape to Seg in the Krypton version of The a Fortress of Solitude

Adam Strange is just trying to keep the timeline on track. Unfortunately, he doesn’t have a great pitch to the his allies currently living on Krypton. After all, their world has to die for Superman to become the greatest hero in the universe. Adam brought Superman‘s Cape with him from the future to give to Seg a little bit of tangible evidence he wasn’t some nutcase. The Cape has been a lot like Marty McFly’s picture of his family from Back to the Future: the more the timeline changes, the more Superman‘s Cape begins to deteriorate and eventually disappear completely. If the past isn’t protected there may be no Man of Steel! Oh, and Zod wants to release Doomsday to stop Brainiac. The shit it hitting the fan here, people!

Doomsday. Dormant… FOR NOW! DUN,DUN, DUUUUN!

For the most part the characters, both hero and villain, have worked pretty well. The villains in particular have been great. The whole cast is perfectly fine for the first season of a show like this, but there’s definitely room to improve in season 2. Both the heroes and villains are interesting in their own way and certain classic DC characters are adapted very well for the series. Both General Zod and Brainiac are excellent villains in completely different ways. They’re both perfectly casted and I’m hard pressed to decide which of them is more dangerous in the long run. Brainiac is a force of nature, but Zod is… insidious. Don’t get me wrong, Brainiac is scary as fuck. But he’s kind of like trying to use a gunfight to stop a hurricane.

Though it looks like Brainiac, it’s really a vessel he built for his mind to enter and interact on Krypton. The true Brainiac never leaves his ship. He operates almost like a hive mind.

Zod is scary because of his humanity (even though Kryptonian’s aren’t technically humans). He never lies, but he chooses to leave out some pretty important details about his past. By “hiding the truth” he’s able to get the good guys to work with him despite the fact that they don’t completely trust him. Adam Strange is the only one who knows just how dangerous this fucking guy is because Adam knows how deadly and destructive he was on Earth. As I said before, the looks the show has decided on for Zod, Brainiac, and Doomsday are all excellent. The character design and make up work are phenomenal especially for Brainiac. We don’t see a lot of Doomsday in season one. Most likely because they’re setting up Doomsday to be a major threat in Season 2.

B96D69E3-9FBD-4490-A413-08E8281E1961
OH FUUUUUUUCK, IT’S AWAKE! DOOMSDAY’S AWAKE! WE’RE FUCKED!

The best part of the series is really how they use the Superman mythology and put their own spin on it. I was pleasantly surprised when certain classic DC characters and stories elements that I didn’t expect, popped up in the series. If they can get the characters as strong as the mythology in season 2, the show could be excellent.

973749FB-9FDD-4E3C-8B29-BA635C33154A
Van-El, Seg’s grandfather in the family Fortress of Solitude. Van tried to warn Kandor that Brainiac was coming years before, but was considered a heretic and condemned for claiming to have found evidence of alien life.

Seg is a solid hero for the show. You can see pieces of Clark Kent in him. You can see parts of the man that his grandson will eventually become. He has that same selflessness and heroism. Of course he looks like him a little bit as well. But he’s still his own character, I would definitely say he’s willing to do more morally questionable things than his grandson probably would. It’ll be interesting to see where they take Seg’s character in season 2.

Krypton - Season 1
Seg and his maybe new girlfriend Nyssa

The episode end’s on one hell of a cliffhanger. A really phenomenal set up for season 2. The genius of this show is that it’s NOT a prequel, it’s really a time travel show. So the series isn’t bound by the existing Superman mythology and can blaze its own trail. All in all, I think this was an excellent finale to a surprisingly strong first season and I can’t wait for Season 2! As always, thanks for reading !

Krypton – Episode 10 (Season 1 Finale): 8.5/10
