I wanted to post something a little different for my Trailer of the Week. I think it’s really cool that comic book companies like Marvel and DC, have started to actually make trailers for their upcoming comic books and graphic novels. Marvel Comics released a trailer for their new series, Eternals, which you can check out below. Two of the companies most talented creators will be at the helm of a new Eternals series scheduled to hit digitally and comic book stores early next year. Written by industry vet Kieron Gillen, along with art by the spectacular Esad Ribic (Secret Wars, Thor: God of Thunder), Eternals is going to be a must read.
One of the most interesting upcoming projects in the MCU is the film, Eternals, scheduled to hit theaters next year. Marvel Comics is always looking for a way to attract new readers, so when a particular character or team is going to be featured in a upcoming movie or television project, they make sure to capitalize on the exposure. Which means putting out a new comic book series featuring the characters from whatever movie or television series is about to drop. Which is exactly what Marvel plans on doing with Eternals. “Saving people, hunting things. The family business.” The unofficial motto of The Winchester Family, as well as a damn good description of the series itself. After 15 epic seasons, the cult hit, Supernatural has come to an end. Sam and Dean Winchester are driving their 67’ Chevy Impala off into the sunset. Goddamn, I’m going to miss this show. More accurately I’m going to miss the show’s wonderful characters. While the series focused mainly on brothers Sam and Dean Winchester, driving around the backroads of America, hunting things that go bump in the night, as the series went on more characters began to populate the world of Supernatural. Like Castiel the fallen angel, Bobby Singer an older hunter and surrogate father to Sam and Dean, Crowley a crossroads demon who becomes King of Hell and has a soft spot for the boys, and Jack the half human/half angel son of Lucifer and surrogate son to Sam, Dean, and Castiel. Season by season, these characters would become just as beloved by fans as The Winchesters themselves.
Speaking of the fans, Supernatural has one of the most passionate and unique fan bases in entertainment. The producers and stars of the show understood that the passion of their fans was a large part of the show’s continued success. Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki who play Dean and Sam Winchester have a reputation for being unusually kind, open, and appreciative of their fans. This unique relationship has led to the fan base being referred to as the SPN Family. In a world where we far too often see celebrities behave like prima donnas, it’s nice to see actors who are genuinely respectful and grateful to their fans.
Supernatural was a series that I bonded over with a lot of great people, but really it was Big Paul Sr. and Ryan McDonald with whom I have the most fond memories of watching this series. So Ryan was kind enough to record a brief tribute, that you will hear about halfway through the episode. Then he touches on some thing that I wish we spoke about more in the main podcast which was some of the excellent performances given by the cast on this series. Not just the leads either, there were some incredible performances by the supporting cast as well. The series definitely deserved more recognition than it received for its risk-taking and innovative storytelling. After all, this is a series that had an animated crossover episode with Scooby-Doo and another episode featured Sam and Dean traveling to another dimension where they are actors Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles, who star on a TV show called Supernatural. The show wasn’t afraid to get meta in some very fun and cool ways.
Some people might find this silly, but after 15 years saying goodbye to Supernatural almost feels like saying goodbye to an old friend. This is truly the end of an era. So on this episode of the podcast, we discuss what we loved about this long running genre series and what made it so special. How it’s themes of family, heroism, and sacrifice not only made a great television series, but inspired us in our everyday lives, as well. Ryan McDonald also makes a guest appearance with his own tribute to this beloved series. Throughout the podcast, we mention multiple scenes from the show’s 15 season run that stood out to us, below you will see I posted some of our favorites, so you can take a look at these fantastic moments that we mention in this episode. We also have some great behind-the-scenes video content looking back at the beginning of the show up until the grand finale, released by the The CW/Warner Bros. Television. A few years ago, I read a book called “The Knife of Never Letting Go,” by Patrick Ness. It’s not the greatest title, but immediately it was one of my favorite books. It was written in a way that was bizarre and interesting, and I was captivated from the beginning. The book is the first in a trilogy called “The Chaos Walking” trilogy. I read the entire trilogy as quickly as I could, and while the first book is by far my favorite, the entire trilogy is good.
The film adaptation of these books is coming out on January 22, 2021 (that is of course assuming things don’t get changed in the wake of the pandemic). As far as I can tell from the trailer, which was released today, the film will be adapting the trilogy as a whole and not the first book, and I’m not hating that. Here’s what I think about the upcoming adaptation, and the books, along with the trailer.
Before You Watch the Trailer
I don’t want to say much about these books, because I do think this is a situation in which going in with as little info as possible is going to enhance the experience. The trailer does somewhat spoil some of the secrets of the first book. I think that because of the way they are—necessarily—changing the telling of the story, the reveal of the first book would make absolutely no sense, but if you’re planning on reading the books before seeing the film, I strongly recommend reading at least the first book before watching the trailer.
The trailer shows you glimpses of events past the big reveal of the first book, but I don’t think there is much that is going to be ruined if you’ve read only the first book.
What Can I Tell You Without Spoiling?
Here is one of the things that I think if you pick up the book at a book store, and literally flip through it you would learn, so I don’t feel bad spoiling for you. This book doesn’t follow a layout the way pretty much every novel I’ve ever read has. This book, along with House of Leaves, are the only two books I’ve read, where margins and orientation are inconsistent, and messed with as a part of the story telling.
In this book, (minor spoiler here) we meet Todd, a boy who lives on a planet where everyone’s thoughts are projected aloud into the air for all to see and hear. The constant bombardment of these thoughts to the characters is reflected in scrawling text, sometimes looking like a notebook which has been writing has been written over.
This factor of the world is not a minor aspect, but affects seemingly everything that happens in all three books, and so when I read that the book was going to be adapted, I was genuinely curious as to how it was going to work. Based on what I’ve seen in the trailer it looks like they’ve come up with a pretty cool way of selling it.
Three Books—One Movie?
I could be wrong on this, but based on the trailer, I think they’re telling the whole story in one film, I think it’s a smart decision. In a world in which most novels are better translated into shows than films, I think this book series doing the opposite makes a lot of sense.
The three books while running high on page counts, don’t tell long stories. In fact, it’s very much three acts of the same story. A lot of the page count is dedicated to style and world building, and I suspect that on film both will be done much more efficiently than the novels. I’d rather see the whole story told well over the course of one film, than poorly over the course of three or four.
Ready for the Trailer?
If you’ve read the books already, or you’re thinking that you’re not going to, go ahead and watch the trailer. But this is your last warning. Watching this trailer will spoil what was personally one of my favorite aspects of the book. So I won’t tell you what to do, but like any good parent, I will guilt trip you and just say “I think you know the right thing, I just hope you choose to do it.”
UPDATED: In a move that will have a massive effect on the filmmaking business, Warner Bros/DC have announced that Wonder Woman 1984, will be simultaneously released in theatres and HBO Max on 12/25/20. The movie will be free for anyone with an existing HBO Max subscription, there will be no extra charge like Disney+ did with their release of Mulan earlier this year. This is some damn good new and I’m psyched to finally see WW84!

Trailers are one of my favorite aspects of the moviegoing experience. Even if the final film turns out to be a complete piece of dog shit, a great trailer can be thrilling and rousing, it can spark your imagination. Of course, as i’ve said in the past, in some ways the art of movie trailers has disappeared for the most part, every once in a while a trailer comes along that blows your socks off. Whenever I find an interesting trailer, I always make a point to post it here on the website to share it with my audience. So I’ve been thinking about making it a little bit more of a formal, weekly column series called “Trailers of The Week”. Sometimes there are trailers that I’d really love to share with you guys, but they don’t necessarily marry their own article here on the website. This way I can let everyone know about all of the interesting trailers I’ve come across each week. Some weeks are going to be better than others, but hopefully will get more fantastic trailers than average ones. So without any further do, I think I have two pretty cool trailers to share with you guys this week.
The first, is the latest trailer for Justice League: The Snyder Cut, premiering on HBO Max early 2021. It contains a lot of footage that we saw in the first trailer, but some interesting moments are expanded, we get a better look at some significant characters, and there is some new and interesting material as well. I have made it no secret that I am extremely excited for this project, I really hope Zack Snyder is able to silence his critics and give us something very unique and interesting for those of you who don’t know at this point the Snyder cut is so long that it’s going to be released as a miniseries on HBO max, I think it’s about five or six hours at this point, I’m not 100% sure. One thing is for sure this is going to be damn interesting superhero project to watch when it finally comes out.
On to our second trailer…
As I’ve mentioned before, I’m a huge fan of the DC Animated Movies that come out three or four times a year. This new film, Batman: Soul of The Dragon, looks particularly interesting. I love the whole retro 70s style and the Bruce Lee, Enter The Dragon “vibe”. Bruce Wayne is one of the best fighters in DC Universe, so it’s very interesting to see a younger Bruce training to become a deadly martial artists. DC Animation have put out their fair share mediocre films, but every now and again they knock one out of the park. Hopefully, Batman: Soul of The Dragon is the former. I love the new aesthetic and unique story. I’m definitely looking forward to give this movie a watch.

2011’s Trollhunter directed by Andre Ovredal is one of my favorite movies of the decade. I’m not saying it’s a masterpiece, but it is a fantastic film and a personal favorite. If you haven’t seen it, the movie is exactly what the title suggests, it’s a found footage style film about a documentary team, following around a guy who hunts trolls in Norway. Trust me, it’s way cooler than I’m making it sound and I highly recommend checking it out. What makes it so unique and so much fun is that it’s a pretty grounded, gritty movie. Which is why I was so excited to see the director’s latest film, Mortal, but I’ll get back to that in a minute.
Ovredal also directed the recent adaptation of Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark, which was produced by Guillermo Del Toro. Though I’m not sure if it was a massive hit, it was still a damn good film and another reason to think that Ovredal was a up-and-coming director to keep an eye on.
When I saw the trailer for Mortal a few months ago, I couldn’t wait to see it. The idea of Ovredal tackling a different piece of folklore and mythology like the Norse gods, with the sensibilities he brought to Trollhunter, sounded wonderful. You can see the trailer for Mortal yourself, right here:

X-Men: The Animated Series Now Streaming on Disney+! Watch the trailer below!
As a child of the 90s, there were really only three superhero cartoons that defined the era for most kids. The best, was of course, the absolute classic Batman: The Animated Series, Spider-Man, and X-Men: The Animated Series. Batman: The Animated Series aired on Kid’s WB, while Spider-Man, and X-Men: The Animated Series were both on Fox Kids or Fox (Though there may have been some overlap at some point). I was a Batman and Spider-Man kid all the way, I loved both of the shows. Those shows were the reason I started reading comic books. When I went to my local comic book store, while I was in middle school, I asked the owner to set me up with the Spider-Man and Batman comic books.
While Spider-Man has its charms, it doesn’t hold a candle to Batman: The Animated Series, which still holds up as one of the best television shows of all time. It may surprise you to hear that, despite my love for superhero comics and my love of the X-Men in general, for some reason I never got into X-Men: The Animated Series. It was a big deal for all the kids I went to school with, but something about just turned me off and I never got into it. As time went on and I started to get into actual comic books and I became a huge X-Men comic book fan I would check out random episodes here and there, but I hadn’t seen very much of the show. At that point X-Men: Evolution had begun to coincide with the X-Men live action films that were being released. However, to many people who grew up in that era, X-Men: The Animated Series is the definitive take on the characters. I knew a lot of people who based their expectations of the X-Men films on what was done on the animated series. Like I said, I haven’t seen more than a few episodes, but from what I understand they took on classic stories like The Dark Phoenix Saga, Days of Future Past, and Age of Apocalypse.
The one problem I will really always have with an X-Men cartoon that’s aimed at kids, is that I think the subject matter just doesn’t translate well to a heavily censored audience. One of the biggest issues I‘ll always have is the fact that everyone’s favorite character from that series is Wolverine. I’ve viewed Wolverine as a perfect example of main stream popular culture’s fundamental misunderstanding of comic book superheroes. Let me see right away, this is something that has hugely improved over the last few years. I think that as a culture, we have become more understanding that superhero stories run the gamut from something that’s appropriate for young children to stories that are only appropriate for adults. The example I love give is, when Batman Returns came out, McDonald’s had toys for that film in their happy meals as part of a promotional deal. Yet that is one of the most fucked up, dark, superhero movies that exists. The Penguin bites a guy’s nose off at one point. Which brings me back to X-Men: The Animated Series and the man called Logan. When Wolverine, one of the main protagonists of an animated show aimed at children, whose defining ability are the razor sharp adamantium claws that shoot out from his hands, there’s a disconnect between content and audience. I mean, there’s only so many times someone can throw a chair at him and he cuts it in half with his claws, with the pieces knocking the assailant out. Or Wolverine cuts a door or weapon. Come on, those things were created for one thing and one thing only and that is to take chunks out of people and stab them until they’re dead. But obviously you can’t do that on a kids show. I always felt like there was extra silliness to the character because it was so obvious that he was being toned down just by the very nature of his powers. His powers revolve around his excellence at murdering people, it’s just right there. Anyway that’s my nitpick.
The point is that, up untill now, X-Men: The Complete Animated Series was never available easily on any streaming service or even some of the major digital purchasers. And there’s never been a DVD or Blu-ray release for The Complete Animated Series or even season by season. Well, that has all changed with Disney+, for the first time X-Men: The Animated Series is available in it’s entirety on Disney+. I think they know that they have an asset with this series, not only will all the original fans go out of their way to watch and enjoy the show, but many of those original fans will share the series with their own children. So Disney+ has putout a special trailer to commemorate the X-Men: The Complete Animated Series becoming fully available on their streaming service. It’s actually pretty cool. Check it out here:
Unfortunately they missed the opportunity to include the iconic X-Men opening theme song. If they put out this trailer, with the X-Men theme song playing at some point in the background, people would be running to their tablets and computers to sign up for Disney+. Even though it isn’t in this pretty cool trailer, the theme song is so goddamn catchy I wanted to make sure I included here for your viewing and listening pleasure…
It’s always worth noting that Disney+ may be promoting the show to gauge audience interest in producing a new season. That’s just conjecture, but it’s worth asking the question. Disney+ actually has a fantastic back catalogue of TV shows, especially when it comes to great cartoons from the 90s and early 2000s. You can find Spiderman: The Complete Animated Series, the aforementioned X-Men: Evolution, and a lot more to discover and explore. My personal favorite is the classic 90s Disney Afternoon series, Gargoyles, which is available in its entirety streaming on Disney+. This show is ridiculously fucking good. It is amazing the shit they got away with for a late 90s cartoon on Disney Afternoon. It is extremely dark, there are on screen murders, they even swear a few times, which is crazy for any animated series that is directed at children. The show is so fucking cool, deep, with characters that are compelling and fascinating, along with a rich and complex mythology that sucks you in. I will definitely write a much longer article about why you need to go out of your way to watch Gargoyles, because it’s fucking awesome. In fact, rumor has it for a while now that Jordan Peele actually wants to make a live action Gargoyles movie, which would be fucking amazing. I really hope that one comes through. Anyway I thought you guys might be interested in these trailers and the info about what is available over on Disney+. Enjoy your binge watching and bring your kids if you have them, I guess. Or screw your kids, go enjoy yourself, pawn your kid off on your spouse or just let them walk around in the yard or some thing. Lock yourself in a room for a few hours and kick back to a time when you were the kid instead of worrying about your goddamn kid. That’s pretty good advice right? All you need is a leash attached to one of those runners that goes across the yard, so kid can just run back and forth and tire itself out. Set out a bowl of water, watch your cartoons, and you’re good to go.

The CW has put together some excellent promotional material to psych up fans for the grand finale of one of the most successful shows in the history of The CW network. In particular, some fantastic behind-the-scenes videos have been released and I posted my personal favorites below.They put a spotlight on the show’s legacy, we get a look at how some of the most iconic running jokes and quirks on the show came to be, and the making of the final few episodes. Next up, I loved this new trailer that was released to get people hyped up for the two-hour series finale event. As an avid fan of the series, who’s been watching the show since Season 2, the nostalgia really hard. I’m certainly going to miss The Winchesters, Castiel, Bobby, Crowley and all the rest. However, as much as I’ll miss the show, I think it’s better that they’re going out on a relative high. Even in the later seasons they’ve been able to deliver some phenomenal episodes of television. How many shows with a 15 season run, are able to pull off consistently unique, entertaining, and engaging episodes? I’m sure it wasn’t easy, but Supernatural has been able to sustain its quality and I’m happy to see the series go out on a high note. Check out the trailer below…

After this week’s gut wrenching episode, I honestly have no idea where things are going in the final 2 episodes. I do know that the next episode has been described as the “Season Finale”, wrapping up the season’s central conflict, while the final episode serves more as an overall “Series Finale”. Here are some cool images from nexts week’s episode, 15×19 “Inherit The Earth” (The “Season Finale” Episode), which shows the return of a major familiar face. This character’s presence could be the edge the boy’s need in their fight against Chuck. Take a look:
Yes, that is indeed Archangel Michael in his vessel Adam, Sam and Dean’s younger half brother. The fact that Adam and Michael have a seemingly symbiotic relationship that almost seems like a friendship, which is very rare for Archangels. This unique relationship has led many fans to dub character “Aichael”. Judging from the photos, he appears to be there to help, but I guess we’ll have to wait until next week to see. Happy Halloween everybody! All Hallows’ Eve is upon us once again, what better way to pay tribute to my favorite holiday than to give you an update on the next film in one of my favorite horror movie franchises: The Conjuring films! I’ve often said, horror is a lot like comedy, they’re both subjective. What makes one person laugh, might disgust the next person. What scares one person, might not scare another. What makes The Conjuring 1&2 a cut above the rest, is that they’re not just great horror films, first and foremost they’re just great films. Even if the scares in the movies don’t quite do it for you, the filmmakers are talented enough to make sure that there’s a great story and fascinating characters at the heart of these movies.
I adore The Conjuring films directed by the prolific James Wan (Insidious, Star Trek Beyond, Aquaman, multiple Fast & Furious films) and starring Patrick Wilson and Vera Farminga as Ed and Lorraine Warren, respectively. The films have been successful enough to create a Conjuring “Universe”, a set of movies, of varying quality, spun off from the main Conjuring films. Movies like Annabelle, The Nun, Annabelle Comes Home and a few more. Well, I’m happy to report that after the success of the first 2 Conjuring films, the cast and filmmakers are returning for The Conjuring 3. They’ve released this cool “First Look” trailer, which you can check out right here:
I think this is a cool new direction to take the series in. Each of The Conjuring films have been based on “actual events” to one degree or another, so I’m happy to see that tradition continue. The film’s writer David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick wrote on Twitter that “The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It is a completely different movie than the first two. The franchise is expanding beyond the ‘haunted house’ formula.“. The premise of a man on trial for murder, pleading innocent by reason of demonic possession, sounds like a lot of fun. Even though there has been a supernatural/courtroom drama before, in the film The Exorcism of Emily Rose from Scott Derrickson, director of The MCU’s Doctor Strange, this sounds just different enough to make me really excited to see this when it hits… theaters… or streaming… or who fucking knows? It was originally scheduled for a September 2020 release, but obviously that didn’t happen. I don’t care what form it’s released in, I know I’ll see it!

I also wanted to show you all that Warner Bros., has been releasing some excellent behind-the-scenes content, documentaries, and interviews lately. Considering that Warner Bros. is such a massive company, with so many different intellectual properties at their disposal, there has been an incredibly eclectic amount of film and TV related content released over the last few weeks, and I’m not sure why. Maybe it’s a new marketing initiative to get fans excited about upcoming projects or something? Regardless of the reason, I’ve seen some incredibly interesting videos pop up on everything from Batman: The Animated Series and The Christopher Nolan Dark Knight Trilogy to Harry Potter and Supernatural. Now, Warner Bros. has released this fantastic behind-the-scenes look at The Conjuring series. It shows you all the writers, directors, producers, actors, special fx, make up design. and everything it takes to create a movie like The Conjuring, let alone an incredible series of films! It’s really interesting and I highly encourage you to give her give it a watch!
