PODCAST: Last Night In Soho Review!

Hey Everyone,

Paul here…

On this episode of The World’s Best Podcast, Ryan and I review Last Night In Soho, the latest film from director Edgar Wright! A new Edgar Wright film is a big deal for all of us here at World’s Best Media. He’s best known for his iconic Three Flavors Cornetto Trilogy with Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, Shaun of The Dead, Hot Fuzz, and The World’s End.

Wright also directed the excellent Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World and Baby Driver. I love his entire filmography, but his last movie, Baby Driver, is one of the best movies of the last 20 years, in my opinion. Now, we have Last Night In Soho. So we were pretty damn excited going into this new film. As I said in our review for The Suicide Squad, like James Gunn, Edgar Wright easily makes it onto my list of The 10 Best Working Directors. So if Edgar Wright is writing/directing, you can bet your ass I’ll be watching.

Some thing Edgar Ray has in common with another one of my favorite filmmakers Quentin Tarantino is that the feature of fantastic music in all of their films. Wright and Tarantino are very close friends, and one night while discussing music Quentin brought up the band Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick & Tich. Their music was featured prominently in Tarantino’s movies, Death Proof. Quinton asked Edgar “Have you ever heard Last Night In Soho”? Edgar said he hadn’t, Quentin played the song (by Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick & Tich), and said ‘This is the best title music for a film that’s never been made.’”. The original titles for the film didn’t work because there had already been obscure movies made with the titles Edgar Wright wanted to use. He remembered te conversation with his old friend Quentin Tarantino and decided to call the film Last Night In Soho, the rest is history…

If you actually plan on seeing Last Night In Soho, I definitely recommend going to watch the film for yourself and then come back and listen to this episode. Because one of the great delights of the movie is how unique and unexpected it is, and that’s very rare at the movies these days! FULL SPOILERS in this episode!!!

PODCAST: Once Upon A Time In… Hollywood (SPOILERS)!

Hey Everyone,

Paul here…

Get excited, folks! Because this week will feature not one, but TWO episodes of “The World’s Best Podcast”! In the first of the two AWESOME podcasts to come out this week, I review the latest film by iconic filmmaker, Quentin Tarantino: Once Upon A Time In… Hollywood! Tarantino is without question on of the greatest living directors. But for me, personally, he is part of a very small group of directors that, in my eyes, can do no know wrong. When Quentin Tarantino has a new movie coming out, I don’t need to know the plot, who’s in it, or even the goddamn title. There’s a new Tarantino out? I’m there!

This just one man’s opinion, because I know he has his critics, but I fucking adore his movies! What can I say?

Having said that, as you’ll hear in the podcast, this by far Tarantino’s weakest film. That’s not to say the movie’s bad. It isn’t. I enjoyed the hell of of it. Tarantino’s worst movie is still better than 99 out of 100 other films. The look of the film is wonderful. The movie manages to capture that “old Hollywood” look in spectacular fashion.

Let’s not forget, Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt are two of the most watchable leading men on the big screen. A lot of the film’s fun comes from their relationship and DiCaprio and Pitt’s talent carry the film. Anyway, I’ve rambled on long enough, you can listen to my full review posted below. I try to keep things somewhat vague at the beginning of the episode, in case you haven’t seen the movie yet, but I give you fair warning before we go into FULL SPOILERS.

This is the first of TWO podcast I’ll be posting this week. The next episode is going to focus on some very cool, returning and new, superhero TV and film projects. We’re going to give you the scoop on this year’s Arrowverse MEGA Crossover, which is by far their most ambitious to date: an adaptation or arguably the biggest superhero crossover of all time, Crisis On Infinite Earths! We’ll also be discussing the trailer for Titans Season 2, and much more.

PODCAST: The Films of Quentin Tarantino (Part 1)

Hey Everybody!

I was really excited to record this week’s Episode of The World’s Best Podcast for a couple of reasons. First, I had World’s Best Media contributor Mike Cole making his first appearance on the show as my co-host on this Episode. Secondly, I’ve wanted to do an episode about Quentin Tarantino long time. Like the Spielberg episode I did with Tim Cuff a few months back, Mike and I basically go over Tarantino’s entire filmography from Reservoir Dogs to The Hateful Eigth and beyond. This is also a 2-Part episode  because there’s a lot to be said about a legendary filmmaker like Tarantino.

I also want to apologize about some sound issues we had with this episode. You can hear my voice load and clear, but Mike’s audio comes through much lower than mine, so he can be a little hard to hear at times. Unfortunately, your best bet is to be ready to change the volume throughout the episode. It’s not Mike’s fault at all, I have some new recording equipment and software that I’m still getting used to. We recorded Parts 1 and 2 at the same time, so when I release Part 2 this issue will still be present.

We’ve sorted out the problem so this won’t happen again. But the good news is the sound quality is excellent now that I have my new recording equipment all set. The World’s Best Podcast is going to sound better than ever!  I appreciate your patience on this one, folks. Once again I apologize for the technical issues.  I think that the sound issue isn’t as bad on iTunes compared to the Spreaker links I usually use, so I’d recommend listening to the Tarantino episodes on iTunes, so I’ve included both links below:Listen here
