NEW TRAILER: Ahsoka!

Hey Everyone,

Paul here…

Disney+ and Lucasfilm have dropped a brand new trailer for the upcoming Star Wars series, Ahsoka. The 8 episode first season is debuting with a 2-episode premiere, on Disney+, August 23rd. The series takes place in the same time period as The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett. Ahsoka follows Rosario Dawson as Ahsoka Tano, the former padawan of Anakin Skywalker, as she deals with reemergence of a deadly former adversary, Grand Admiral Thrawn. Check out the trailer right here:

I’m particularly excited for this new series for a number of reasons. Ahsoka is one of my favorite Star Wars characters, I’ve followed her journey from when she was introduced in Star Wars: The Clone Wars to her surprise return in Star Wars Rebels to her live action debut in The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett. Which brings me to another reason this series is such a big deal for me, it’s basically a live-action sequel series to Star Wars Rebels. Rebels is easily among my most beloved pieces of Star Wars canon. As you can see in the trailer, the show features the live-action appearances of almost all of the Rebels cast…

General Hera Syndulla, captain of The Ghost, my favorite starship this side of The Millennium Falcon…

Mandalorian warrior and artist, Sabine Wren, the onetime wielder of The Darksaber…

Chopper, the best droid in all of Star Wars not called R2-D2…

…and exiled Jedi Knight, Ezra Bridger.

Additional characters like Captain Rex and others are returning as well.

However, the biggest draw has to be “The Big Bad” of the series, fan favorite villain, Grand Admiral Thrawn. Thrawn first appeared in The Heir to The Empire trilogy of books written by Timothy Zahn in the 90’s. As part of Star Wars Legends, the books chronicled the events following Return of The Jedi. Thrawn was one of The Empire’s highest ranking officer’s and The Emperor’s right hand, second only to Darth Vader. Though he wasn’t a Force user, his brilliant mind, working like an evil Sherlock Holmes, made him just as dangerous (if not more so) than Vader or Palpetine. He was such a cunning tactician, that he very nearly succeeded in rebuilding The Empire and crippling the nascent New Republic. When Disney bought Lucasfilm the novels were no longer considered canon. However, the character was restored to canon when he appeared in Star Wars Rebels as the main antagonist of the final few seasons. Lars Mikelsen who voiced the character in Star Wars Rebels is also returning to play Thrawn in Ahsoka, which is really cool.

The last few Star Wars miniseries from Disney+ have left me a little cold, so hopefully this show will be a return to form for a galaxy far, far away.

Ahsoka premiers on Disney+ August 23rd.

Star Wars Celebration 2023! Big Announcements! Trailers & More!

Hey Everyone,

Paul here…

Over the weekend Lucasfilm held it’s annual Star Wars Celebration event, showcasing what the future holds for a galaxy far, far away. In addition to several interesting trailers, which you can watch below, there were several major announcements to come out of the event. The most notable being, that three new Star Wars movies are currently in development.

Jon Favreau (L) & Dave Filoni (R)
The current stewards of The Star Wars Universe (the good stuff anyway)

No official release dates have been announced so I’m not certain what order these films will be released in, but I am going to break each of them down. First, will have an Avengers-style, team-up movie, directed by Dave Filoni, bringing together the characters from The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, and the upcoming Ashoka. The series will act as the epic culmination of the overarching storyline that began with The Mandalorian and serve as an ending to the story of Din Djarin and Grogu. But don’t freak out yet! We still have multiple seasons of The Mandalorian before the film will hit theaters. At the very least we know Season 4 is already in early stages of production.

The second film will be directed by James Mangold. Mangold is a fantastic director, behind movies like Logan and the upcoming 5th Indiana Jones film. The movie take place thousands of years before The Skywalker Saga and chronicle the origins and beginning of The Jedi Order. As much as I love The Mandalorian, this is the film that I’m most excited for. Mangold is a great director and the story has a lot of potential. Taking place in a completely different time period, with all new characters, is something a lot of Star Wars fans have been wanting for a while now. I think going back as far as the beginning of The Jedi, has the potential to be very unique and cool.

The third and certainly most controversial film, will focus on Rey from the sequel trilogy, and take place years after The Rise of Skywalker. The story will follow Rey, as she attempts to rebuild The Jedi Order. Considering how divisive The Sequel Trilogy was, especially Rise of Skywalker, this seems like a somewhat surprising and misguided, move on the part of the leadership at Lucasfilm. We’ll be following the production of these movies and keep you updated as new details come to light these films begin to come to light.

On the streaming front, as I mentioned before we got our first look at the Ashoka series in the awesome trailer posted below, as well as several other exciting interesting Star Wars TV projects. Take a look:

Ashoka

Star Wars: Visions Vol.2

Both of these shows look amazing and I can’t wait!

A new series called Star Wars: Acolyte was also announced. The series is set before The Skywalker Saga, in The High Republic Era. Very little is known about the project at this point and is shrouded in secrecy. The show has been fully cast, with most of the roles being kept under wraps for the moment. However, we do know one thing for sure: We’re getting a Wookiee Jedi! Which is worth the price of admission all by itself. I will keep you updated as news of this new series develops.

May The Fourth: Star Wars Day! Here’s Some Awesome Star Wars Art

Hey Everyone,

Paul here…

May The Force Be With You, my friends! Today we celebrate another Star Wars Day! For those of you who don’t know every year, May 4 is Star Wars day. You know, like “May The Fourth Be With You” (I normally hate puns, but it’s Star Wars so I kind of like this one). One of my favorite things to do is find unique and talented artists all throughout the Internet and see their take, their interpretation, of classic pop-culture characters or stories. Star Wars has some of the BEST art on the internet. From concept art from the films that were never used, to famous artists putting their own spin on a Star Wars character or scene, or all of the incredible amature artists out there who post their fantastic work on Instagram and social media. So to commemorate Star Wars Day, I wanted to share some of the cooler pieces of Star Wars art I’ve come across recently. Check them out below! May The Force be with you, always…

I also wanted to include some of these fantastic photos you’ll see below. Every time a new Star Wars movie has come out of the last 25 years, Vanity Fair wouldsend world renowned photographer Annie Leibowitz to take photos of the production, the actors, the characters, etc. Vanity Fair’s Star Wars issue was usually best look at the upcoming Star Wars movie. Usually a teaser trailer would have been released, but not much else. So Vanity Fair’s in-depth article on each, upcoming Star Wars film was our first and best look at the coming film. The best part was that each article was accompanied by Leibowitz’s amazing images. Through color and texture, she captured so much amazing detail with her photos. Each photo she took was unmistakably an Annie Liebowitz photo. She’s just that damn good. So I wanted to include some of my favorite photos from her extensive Star Wars portfolio…

PODCAST: The Mandalorian Season 2 Finale!

Hey Everyone,

Paul here…

For five decades and running, Star Wars has become our greatest modern myth. In the distant future (assuming of course humanity hasn’t already wiped itself off the face of the planet), people will look back on Star Wars like we look back at epic poems like The Iliad and Beowulf. Stories like Star Wars and Beowulf endure because they’re primal, archetypal stories that speak to timeless themes of family, freedom, and hope.

Part of what makes Star Wars so special, is how it’s stories have touched multiple generations in very different ways. There were the folks who saw the original film at their local movie theater in 1977, unaware of the earth shattering, mind blowing, movie going experience they were about to have. Up to that point, nothing like Star Wars had ever been seen in the history of cinema. Looking back, it’s easier to see some of the stories and archetypes that influenced George Lucas and inspired him to create Star Wars. Then there are the kids like me, who saw the original trilogy when it was re-released in theaters for the Special Editions. It was indescribably cool to see these movies for the first time on the big screen. When The Star Wars Trilogy Special Editions were released, some were very frustrated with some of the changes George Lucas made to the classic trilogy. None of that mattered to me, I was a kid experiencing these classic films for the first time. Which is probably why I don’t find the changes to the movies so jarring. I feel extremely lucky that I got to experience every single Star Wars film, the entire Skywalker Saga for the first time on the big screen. Another group of fans are the kids who’s “original trilogy” is the prequel trilogy, that was the Star Wars they fell in love with. It’s one of the reasons the prequel‘s are looked back on more fondly than people may suspect.

So anyone, no matter the age, has their own very specific Star Wars experience. If you ask 10 different people to rank their favorite Star Wars films, you’re likely to get 10 completely different answers. If had to rank the films, my top three favorite Star Wars movies are The Empire Strike Back, Revenge of The Sith, and The Force Awakens. One movie from each trilogy. Beyond that, there are all of the books, comics, and video games that make up The Expanded Universe, which also affect a person’s feelings about Star Wars. I suppose technically The Mandalorian would fall under the umbrella of an Expanded Universe story. It’s not technically a part of The Skywalker Saga, yet it has already become an indelible part of Star Wars. So much so that The Mandalorian will be looked back upon as being a vital piece of Star Wars just as much as something like Return of The Jedi.

Anyway, I was very excited to talk about the Season 2 finale of The Mandalorian on this week’s show. In less than 24 hours, the final episode of the season sent shockwaves through the fan community. A rapturous, collective pop-culture event, the likes of which I don’t think has been seen, since Thanos infamously snapped half of the universe out of existence. It was one of those rare times when the term, “broke the Internet“ felt actually appropriate. So, on this episode of The World’s Best Podcast, we discuss the Season 2 Finale of The Mandalorian, and what we thought of the season overall.

Before you go, I wanted to share a cool video. With the exception of Dave Chapelle, who has become a full-blown legend, Bill Burr is probably the best working comedian in the business right now. His character from Season 1, Mayfield, returned to The Mandalorian in Episode 7, where he showed off some impressive acting chops. Bill Burr’s scene with Mando and Mayfield‘s former commander from his days as a soldier for The Empire, was easily one of the best scenes of the season. The scene felt like it was pulled right out of a Quentin Tarantino movie, and I mean that in the best way. Despite the incredible dramatic acting talent he put on display this season, Bill is still first and foremost an ridiculously funny comedian. Which is why, when I came across this very funny video, I thought you guys might really enjoy it. You can watch the video below, take a look:

PODCAST: The Mandalorian Episode 6 “The Tragedy” Commentary & Review!

Hey Everyone,

Paul here…

The Mandalorian is just about wrap up it’s excellent second season and all the pieces are in place for an epic ending to the show’s sophomore season! Mando is ready to go full on Liam Neeson in Taken on Moff Gideon and I can’t wait for their inevitable showdown! I have a feeling that Moff Gideon is going to learn the hard way, that as far as Mando is concerned, NO ONE messes with The Kid. So, on this episode of The World’s Best Podcast, we recorded a commentary and review, of Season 2, Episode 6, “The Tragedy”. I hate when I have a movie or TV series spoiled for me, so I deliberately waited until at least one other episode of The Mandalorian had aired, before I posted this episode of the podcast. Fair warning, we are in FULL SPOILER territory on this one. Now, with Episode 8 just a few days away, I figured that enough time had passed. I will offer one small tease: A fan favorite character finally lives up to their legendary status in spectacular fashion. As always, we had a blast making this episode, so we hope you have fun listening! Enjoy!

TRAILERS OF THE WEEK: The MCU & Star Wars!

Hey Everyone,

Paul here…

Holy crap this was a great week for trailers! The annual Walt Disney Co. 2020 Shareholders Meeting, took place a few days ago. Over the last decade or so, Disney has made some huge business moves that paid off, big time! With the creation of Marvel Studios, partnering with Sony to get Spider-Man in The MCU, the company acquiring Fox, and the success of Disney+, the company’s star is continuing to rise. This year Disney live-streamed the event to their shareholders, so fans had a chance watch the presentation as well. Star Wars and Marvel fans in particular, should keep this yearly event on their radar. Just and foremost, this meeting is about Disney displaying their value to their shareholders, so they usually pull out all the stops. As one among several events Disney hosts every year, this is where we can expect to see major announcements about upcoming Marvel and Star Wars projects. The heads of each entertainment division at Disney (Pixar, Marvel, Lucasfilm, Disney Animation, etc) give presentation about all of the upcoming projects that they’re working on, which will of course make the shareholders shit loads of money. The event was live streamed on and they did not disappoint with some amazing and exciting announcements. We are going to go over everything that we saw at The Walt Disney Co. 2020 Shareholders Meeting on the next episode of The World’s Best Podcast, so keep an eye out for that. In the meantime, some fantastic new trailers were shown, so I figured it was the perfect time for Trailers of The Week!

The Mandalorian Just Fulfilled the Promise of Boba Fett

It’s been a few days since season 2 episode 6, “The Tragedy” aired, so you’ve had a chance to watch it, but in case you haven’t seen it, spoiler alert.

I’m one of those people who for a long time hasn’t really understood the hype around Boba Fett. I’m a big fan of the original trilogy, and in it he’s got a cool look, and is a good character as far as plot devices and things go, but there has been something of a cult following around him since his first appearance in 1980.

When the prequels came out, there was backstory explaining Boba, and if I’m being honest, Jango and the clone troopers are much more interesting than Boba. Two trilogies down, and I just didn’t get the appeal.

Surprisingly, J.J. Abrams didn’t bring back Boba for the third trilogy, which was the only piece of nostalgia for the first trilogy that didn’t seem to be dredged back up (unless Phasma is supposed to be the Boba Fett equivalent?)

With it being accepted by almost all fans that Boba survived the Sarlacc pit, it seemed inevitable that most people’s favorite nothing would make it back into the canon Star Wars galaxy, and about a year ago, we started getting casting rumors and speculation about season 2 of The Mandalorian, and the big one was Temuera Morrison, who played Jango Fett (whom Boba is an unaltered clone of) in the prequels.

Temuera Morrison is Back!

It seemed he was going to be Boba, although I was really hoping that we would see him playing Captain Rex from The Clone Wars and Rebels. Captain Rex was a fan favorite, and while he’s been altered, he would also be identical to Temuera Morrison (although likely much older do to age enhancement in the cloning process).

Well, by the end of episode one, that hope had been dashed. Temuera Morrison was going to be Boba Fett, and there was almost no doubt to that.

When we finally got to this past week’s episode, we hadn’t seen Boba since the last shot of the first episode, and I had somewhat forgot that he was going to be coming back, and so when we saw his ship the Slave I following Mando to Tython, I was thinking “oh cool, we’re going to see these two square off,” with a bit of unexpected enthusiasm, but nothing near my Bo Katan energy from the third episode.

Then we saw Boba and Fennec Shand confront Mando about Boba’s armor which Mando is in possession of, and I realize that we’re not going to get the Boba Fett I was expecting. He was much more diplomatic, and while he didn’t seem hesitant to fight, he certainly wasn’t going to pick one unnecessarily.

Boba Fucks Shit Up

When Moff Gideon’s stormtroopers land and come to take Grogu (AKA Baby Yoda), we see Boba Fett sanz armor begin to tear up the stormtroopers. Now, we’ve had more than a season and a half of watching Mando overcome crazy odds, and prove himself as a fighter, we’ve seen Fennec do a bit of sniper work, but what we see of Boba Fett, is nothing short of amazing. Boba fucking up stormtroopers with a stick with a big ball on the end, is probably the best fight we’ve seen in the entirety of The Mandalorian’s run.

Halfway through the fight, we get to see Boba wrestling with the last stormtrooper (from the first batch) and seeing his armor sitting in the doorway of Mando’s ship the Razor Crest. We get a little bit of Mando and Fennec fucking shit up, but being massively overwhelmed by the numbers, and then what I can only describe as the previous fight scene, plus Iron Man coming out of the cave in the first Iron Man, where you’re like “oh, you are all fucking dead.”

Boba lays waste to the remaining stormtroopers before using the jetpack rocket launcher (which personally I kind of think is a lame weapon) to blow up one of the retreating ships.

This is the Boba Fett Everyone’s Been Talking About

In less than ten minutes, forty years after his first introduction, we got the Boba Fett that everyone seemed to think we had from the very beginning. We’ve been building this guy up with head-canon for decades, and I had absolutely no expectation that I was ever going to see the Boba Fett that everyone else was seeing. Then a tv show, not a film, directed by a man who’s been somewhat waning in his career over the last decade or two (Robert Rodriguez), brought it all together.

Boba Fett is fucking awesome. That’s a statement a significant portion of Star Wars fans would have said a year ago, a decade ago, or forty years ago, but it’s a statement that I didn’t believe until last Friday. Boba Fett is fucking awesome, and I hope the last two episodes of the season keep it up.

New Trailer: The Mandalorian Season 2!

Hey Everyone,

Paul here…

With Season 2 of the hit Disney+ show, The Mandalorian, premiering on October 30, I knew it was only a matter of time before we got our first look at the new season. At long last, the first trailer for The Mandalorian Season 2 ha dropped online. Let’s be honest here, we would all be excited for this show no matter what, The Mandalorian was one of the best new series to come out last year. Disney + and Lucasfilm didn’t even really need to put out a trailer and fans would still watch the series in droves. That doesn’t mean I’m thankful as hell that we did get to see this cool new trailer. With Star Wars: The Ride of Skywalker being such a massive disappointment, at least to me, The Mandalorian was the saving grace of The Star Wars Universe in 2019. Earlier this year on Disney+, we got some of the best new Star Wars content in years with the fantastic final season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars. So hopefully, The Mandalorian Season 2 will be just as killer as Season 1, and make 2020 a great year to be a Star Wars fan. Take a look at the trailer right here:

What do you think of the trailer? Let me know in the comments below!
