This week on The World’s Best Podcast, Paul Sr. returns to the show to discuss the first live-action Star Wars TV series, The Mandalorian, streaming on Disney +! Created by Jon Favreau (the actor/director behind Iron Man, Elf, and more), The Mandalorian follows a lone bounty hunter working in the dangerous Outer Rim of the galaxy, sometime after the fall of The Empire. When a high paying job takes an unexpected turn, The Mandalorian’s own personal code is put to the test. With some of the galaxy’s most dangerous in hot pursuit, The Mandalorian must decide what he’s will to fight… and maybe even die for. Does the show live up to the hype? What cool Star Wars Easter Eggs are featured in the series? What are our theories regarding some of the show’s big mysteries? We talk about all this and much more on this week’s exciting episode! Thanks for listening! Enjoy!
This is the cool Star Wars featurette that I mention in the episode:

Mike Cole is one of the most interesting co-hosts I have on the show. So, I was happy to have Mike C return for back to back episodes. Mike co-hosted last week’s episode with me and it came out great. So if you haven’t had a chance to listen our last show, definitely check it out. So this week on The World’s Best Podcast, you get to hear part of my back to back episodes with Mike Cole.
Mike and I are both big fans of The Arrowverse , DC’s TV Universe, that consists of multiple, interconnected shows that take place in the same DC Universe. It’s referred to as The Arrowverse because it all began with, Arrow, the first TV show in this universe. From Arrow came it’s first spinoff, The Flash. With The Flash surpassing the still very successful Arrow, The CW had lightning in bottle. The network had the gritty, dark, Nolan influenced, action series with Arrow alongside the bright and fun new series The Flash which followed it’s extremely effective formula of heart, humor, and spectacle. It wasn’t long until shows like Supergirl, Legends of Tomorrow, and Batwoman followed.
There was a time when Arrow and The Flash were appointment television for me… and I was in the only one. People I knew from work, friends and family members, all people I thought would never normally tune in to this type of show, were just as wrapped up in the world of Oliver Queen and Barry Allen as I was. However, while all of the shows (except for Batwoman) have reached unbelievable heights they’ve also reached some lows. While the first 3 seasons of both Arrow and The Flash were excellent, both series developed issues that they needed to overcome. Legends of Tomorrow, after a somewhat rocky first season has been consistently silly entertainment for its entire run. I do enjoy Supergirl, but it can be very hit or miss and it’s only truly great season, was last year‘s Season 4 featuring Jon Cryer‘s incredible performance as Lex Luthor. Unfortunately, as much is I love the character of Batwoman and I want the show to succeed, I don’t see it getting a second season. So far it’s been pretty poorly written and executed.
Anyway, this is a big season for the our offers all leading up to the mega crossover Crisis On Infinite Earths. Every year all The Arrowverse shows do a epic crossover. They’re always fun and I look forward to them every year. Each crossover seems to be better than the last. When the Justice League movie came out in 2017, a few weeks later The Arrowverse did their annual crossover which was called Crisis on Earth X, and it was basically their version of a Justice League movie. It was a better Justice League movie the actual Justice League movie. This group of TV shows on the basic cable had outdone some of the biggest directors, actors, and big budget filmmaking in Hollywood.
This year’s crossover has been teased and hinted at since the first episode of The Flash. Crisis On Infinite Earths is on of the biggest stories in the history of DC Comics, so this crossover is one of the most ambitious basic cable TV projects that I can think of. All of our favorite heroes from the regular Arrowverse TV shows, plus appearances by Superman, Batman, Lex Luthor, and many, many more. This is going to be a real fucking blockbuster. With Crisis on the horizon, Mike and I talk about each of the shows in The Arrowverse and how they are performing so far this season. Some of the shows are doing some of their best work, others are at their lowest point, and others still are going strong. You’ll hear all about it in this entertaining podcast!

This week, I was thrilled to get my old friend and frequent collaborator Michael Cole back on The World’s Best Podcast. Mike Cole wanted to discuss the comments recently made by several prominent filmmakers, that seem to ask: is there a place for great, smaller films in this blockbuster world?
In other news, some very exciting casting announcements have been made regarding director Matt Reeves’ upcoming film, The Batman, starring Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne. My readers and listeners know what a huge Batman fan I am and I’ve got to say, every new piece of news that I hear about this project, makes me even more excited to see it. Sure, I’ll have to wait for it’s Summer 2021 release date, but there are plenty of other cool and thrilling projects coming down the pipe between now and then. I do want to reiterate that those of you who may have doubts about Robert Pattinson in this role, are going to be pleasantly surprised. I think Pattinson is going to do a fantastic job. With a story that’s rumored to focus on the tortured and scarred psychology of Bruce Wayne as well as his skills as The World’s Greatest Detective, I think Pattinson is going to crush it in this role. Anyway, Mike and I go down the roster the roles that have been cast (or heavily rumored to have been cast) and give our take on each of the recently announced parts.
Bringing up The Batman is a great excuse to showcase one of my favorite artists working right now, BossLogic. You may have seen his work online before, I’ve posted his work on this site many times. He made up a very cool poster for movie, as well as pieces on the different actors supposedly up for roles in The Batman and what they’d look like as the iconic allies and enemies of The Dark Knight’s world. Take a look here:

We recorded two episodes, but I’m releasing the second of the two podcasts first. The subjects that we discuss in this podcast are still pretty relevant and fresh in peoples minds right now. I felt that if I waited to share this episode, it just might not be as enjoyable to the fans a week from now. Part One of the podcast has a pretty broad topic, so we’ll be releasing that one later in the week

Much like the killer robots we see in these films, The Terminator franchise refuses to die. That’s right, folks! Arnold Schwarzenegger and Linda Hamilton have returned to kick Terminator ass and blow shit up in the latest entry in the iconic action series. Director Tim Miller (Deadpool) and Producer James Cameron chose to ignore the previous sequels and pick up right where T2 left off. Does Dark Fate return the franchise to the glory days of Terminator 2: Judgment Day? Or is this another failed attempt to revive a tired film series? Find out here in my review of, Terminator: Dark Fate!

On this week’s episode of The World’s Best Podcast, I review the new HBO series WATCHMEN, from creator Damon Lindelof (Lost, The Leftovers)! This new series serves as a quasi-sequel to the original WATCHMEN comic book, a brilliant deconstruction of the superhero genre. Written by the legendary Alan Moore with amazing art by Dave Gibbons, Watchmen is a true masterpiece of the comic book medium. TIME Magazine listed the graphic novel among their list of 100 greatest novels of the 20th century.
The graphic novel was adapted into a 2009 film by director, Zack Snyder to a mostly positive reception. DC Comics has published multiple prequel comic book miniseries’ under the banner “Before Watchmen”, telling stories about classic Watchmen characters like Rorschach, Doctor Manhattan, The Comedian and more.
Set 30 years after the classic graphic novel in an alternate 2019, police wear masks to protect their identities from a brutal terrorist organization. Following a shocking crime, characters both new and familiar find themselves in the middle of a vast conspiracy. Who Watches The Watchmen? Thanks for listening! Enjoy!

Due to overwhelming demand, Ryan McDonald and I have finally returned to complete our journey through Middle Earth. After our smash hit episode all bout The Lord of The Rings Movies, our listeners wanted, nay DEMANDED, a follow up episode exploring the other, less beloved big screen adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien’s work. That’s right, this episode is all about The Hobbit Trilogy!
Unlike the nearly universally praised Lord of The Rings films, many fans criticized The Hobbit, feeling that 3 films to cover one of Tolkien’s shortest works was one film too many and an unnecessary cash grab by the studio. The individual films in The Hobbit Trilogy were viewed by some as being overly long and even boring.
Some of the criticisms surrounding the films were fair, other weren’t. As a Tolkien junkie, I loved spending as much time as possible in Peter Jackson’s vision of Middle Earth. The characters, the heart, the spectacular action set pieces, the groundbreaking special effects, I loved it all! I couldn’t get enough. I remember when the films were being made, I followed the production closely and when the movies were released it was an event for my friends and I. I was the guy who thought things like “They’re going to make 3 movies back to back instead of 2? Fuckin’ A! I love it! Bring it on!”, “They’re releasing extended editions on blu ray, just like LoTR? SICK! Add to shopping cart!”. My point is that I definitely have a positive personal bias with these films. While I’m the first to admit that I’m not 100% objective, I sincerely believe these are excellent films.
There are phenomenal performances from Martin Freeman, Ian McKellen, and Richard Armitage, just to name a few. There are some beautiful, profound moments in these films. Not to mention the action and battles scenes which kick all kinds of ass! Oh, I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention Benedict Cumberbatch as the dragon, Smaug. He’s terrifying and fascinating all at the same time. The motion capture performance and voice performance by Cumberbatch, along with some VFX wizardry from the guys at Weta, combine to create one of the best motion capture CG characters of the past decade. I almost forgot to mention Howard Shore’s predictably excellent score.
But enough beating around the bush! Listen to the show below, where Ryan and I offer up our arguments for why these films are underrated, we give some background about the films problematic pre-production, and discuss our favorite characters and moments from the Trilogy. Of course, like every great episode of The World’s Best Podcast, we inevitably take some fun detours along the way

I’m a huge fan of stand up comedy. So when I got the chance to sit down with the talented and hilarious comedian, Danny Kelly, I was thrilled. Over his nearly 3 decades as a professional comedian, Danny has racked up some amazing stories and experiences. He was kind enough to share some killer stuff when I sat down with him in the extremely cool “Cantankerous Podcast” mobile studio last week. FYI, the mobile studio is a large van that has been custom outfitted with leather chairs, tables, and recording equipment. With the mobile studio, Danny and his co-host Brian Glowacki, can take the show directly to guests. It’s one of the most interesting podcast set ups I’ve seen.
We discuss everything, beginning with his early days in the business in 1990’s L.A. to his current work on his fantastic podcast “Cantankerous” (available on iTunes, Spotify, iHeartRadio, and anywhere you get your podcasts). During our conversation Danny offered up his insightful take on how the measure of success as a comedian has drastically changed over the last 30 years. This is a great peek behind the curtain for all you stand up fans out there! Throughout this hysterical episode, Danny regaled me with tales of his run-ins with some of the most famous people in entertainment, the time a crazed gun man was hiding out in the audience while he was doing a set, how the Boston comedy scene is different from L.A and New York, an incident involving accidentally eating a bowl of marbles in front of Christopher Walken, and much, much more! This was by far the most fun I’ve had recording a podcast in a long time! I’m sure you guys will enjoy listening to our conversation as much as had recording it. This is a cant miss episode, folks! Enjoy!
Cantankerous is available through all major podcast apps, such as iTunes, Spotify, etc. You can also go directly to the Cantankerous Podcast website at: http://cantankerous.libsyn.com/

JOKER, the highly anticipated new film from director Todd Phillips and starring Joaquin Phoenix has hit theaters! The movie is already receiving rave reviews, with many critics declaring the movie a shoe in for Academy Award nominations for Best Picture and Best Actor for Joaquin Phoenix. The early buzz has praised Phoenix’s tour de force performance as a broken man’s decent into madness and his transformation into the legendary Clown Prince Of Crime! But does it live up to the hype? That’s exactly what Ryan and I discuss in the latest episode of The World’s Best Podcast! The Joker is one of the best characters in all of fiction and the film asks provocative questions about society, mental health, and morality. Does the film live up to its lofty ambitions? Where does this Joker rank among the other classic performances of the character? Can you tell a Joker story without Batman? We answer all these questions and more! Listen and enjoy!

Galileo Galilei, Albert Einstein, Stephen Hawking, Prof. Paul Wright Sr. PhD. These are the names of some of the greatest scientific geniuses of all time. We may not be able to have Stephen Hawking or Albert Einstein on the show, but we can get Paul Wright Sr.! We’ll certainly need him, because on this week’s show we’re tackling one of the world’s most compelling unexplained phenomena: U.F.O.s!
U.F.O.s or Unidentified Flying Objects, have been one of mankind’s great mysteries for as long as we’ve looked up at the sky and wondered, are we alone in the universe? As 2 of the foremost minds of our time, Paul Sr. and I (a scientific wunderkind) set out on a journey of discovery to answer that very question! We discuss some of the most incredible and dramatic UFO encounters on record. With more information on the subject being declassified by the U.S. government all the time, we barely hit the tip of the iceberg on this endlessly fascinating subject! So come join Paul Sr. and I (2 of the most celebrated thinkers of our respective generations) on this whirlwind adventure into the unknown!
This episode is a bit a change from our normal subject matter, so if you’d like to see us cover this kind of topic more often, comment below or on social media!
