SUPERNATURAL: The Final Season (UPDATED!)

Hey Everyone,

Paul here…

(UPDATED: WITH NEW VIDEOS AND PHOTOS!)

Hey After 15 Seasons, more than than 1 apocalypse, and a shitload of dead monsters, Supernatural will be riding it’s ‘67 Chevy Impala off into the sunset…

With only a few episodes of Supernatural left, The CW has been sending off the long running and beloved series with the respect it deserves. TV GUIDE even put out a special edition of the magazine, commemorating the end of the fan favorite series…

This Special Edition Issue is now available on stands and online.

The CW has put together some excellent promotional material to psych up fans for the grand finale of one of the most successful shows in the history of The CW network. In particular, some fantastic behind-the-scenes videos have been released and I posted my personal favorites below. They put a spotlight on the show’s legacy, we get a look at how some of the most iconic running jokes and quirks on the show came to be, and the making of the final few episodes. Check them out:

Next up, I loved this new trailer that was released to get people hyped up for the two-hour series finale event. As an avid fan of the series, who’s been watching the show since Season 2, the nostalgia really hard. I’m certainly going to miss The Winchesters, Castiel, Bobby, Crowley and all the rest. However, as much as I’ll miss the show, I think it’s better that they’re going out on a relative high. Even in the later seasons they’ve been able to deliver some phenomenal episodes of television. How many shows with a 15 season run, are able to pull off consistently unique, entertaining, and engaging episodes? I’m sure it wasn’t easy, but Supernatural has been able to sustain its quality and I’m happy to see the series go out on a high note. Check out the trailer below…

They’ve released interesting images from the upcoming final episodes, including the return of some fan favorite characters

This behind-the-image features (L) Lisa Berry who plays the current incarnation of
speaking with episode director, (R) Richard Speight Jr. In addition to playing The Trickster AKA Archangel Gabriel, Speight Jr has directed 11 episodes of the series.

After this week’s gut wrenching episode, I honestly have no idea where things are going in the final 2 episodes. I do know that the next episode has been described as the “Season Finale”, wrapping up the season’s central conflict, while the final episode serves more as an overall “Series Finale”. Here are some cool images from nexts week’s episode, 15×19 “Inherit The Earth” (The “Season Finale” Episode), which shows the return of a major familiar face. This character’s presence could be the edge the boy’s need in their fight against Chuck. Take a look:

Yes, that is indeed Archangel Michael in his vessel Adam, Sam and Dean’s younger half brother. The fact that Adam and Michael have a seemingly symbiotic relationship that almost seems like a friendship, which is very rare for Archangels. This unique relationship has led many fans to dub character “Aichael”. Judging from the photos, he appears to be there to help, but I guess we’ll have to wait until next week to see. So what do you guys think are you excited for the final two episodes of Supernatural? Let me know in the comments below!

Batman: The Animated Series (Short Film) – “The Chase”

Hey Everyone,

Paul here…

I came across this video today as I was looking through YouTube today, and I realized that many of you may not have ever seen this cool animated short (or even knew it existed). Back in 2013 the amazing folks behind Batman: The Animated Series, Superman: The Animated Series, Batman Beyond, Justice League, and Justice League Unlimited, released this short animated film called “Chase Me”. It’s a fun, quick little story about Batman trying to catch Catwoman after a minor heist she’s pulled off. But the whole chase is really a metaphor for the romance and attraction that’s at the heart off their relationship. There’s always the folks behind Batman: The Animated Series understand what makes The Dark Knight tick, better than most. If you haven’t seen “Chase Me” before, you can check it out right here and if you have seen, any excuse to dive back into the world Batman: The Animated Series, is well worth your time. Watch it here:

New Trailer: WandaVision!

Hey Everyone,

Paul here…

As a diehard Marvel Cinematic Universe fan, I feel like I’m going through MCU withdrawals. If it wasn’t for this fucking COVID-19 pandemic, we’d have already seen the much anticipated Black Widow movie, The Falcon and The Winter Soldier would be streaming on Disney+, and we’d be gearing up for the release of The Eternals in a little over a month. I know there are much, much worse things that are happening because of the COVID-19 outbreak and the pandemic is just one of the many shitty things that have happened during this awful year. In my lifetime, I don’t think there’s been a more horrific year for America than 2020 (Let’s just hope 2021 will be an improvement). So by comparison it may seem a little silly to be complaining about a few movies and TV shows that we weren’t able to watch. However, the stories told like the ones in the MCU, allow people an escape from the terrible things going on in the real world, even if it’s just for a little while. It’s like I always say, you can’t underestimate the profound effect of storytelling. Stories are huge part of what makes us human.

On the bright side, they say absence makes the heart grow fonder. It almost seems appropriate for audiences to get a break from the MCU for a little while. Marvel just finished telling one epic story with The Infinity Saga and the next Marvel project to come out will be the beginning of a whole new chapter in The MCU. Finally after delays and rescheduling we finally know what story is going to kick off Phase 4 of The MCU: WandaVision on Disney+. The first trailer for the new miniseries has just been released and you can check it out below. It looks trippy as hell in the best possible way. I have a little bit more I want to say about this very unique looking story, but for now I’ll just start by posting the new trailer. Take a look:

WandaVision doesn’t have a definitive release date yet, but it will premiere before the end of the year. Expect to see WandaVision premiere on Disney+ sometime around early December. So what did you folks think of the trailer for WandaVision? Let me know in the comments below!

New Trailer: The Mandalorian Season 2!

Hey Everyone,

Paul here…

With Season 2 of the hit Disney+ show, The Mandalorian, premiering on October 30, I knew it was only a matter of time before we got our first look at the new season. At long last, the first trailer for The Mandalorian Season 2 ha dropped online. Let’s be honest here, we would all be excited for this show no matter what, The Mandalorian was one of the best new series to come out last year. Disney + and Lucasfilm didn’t even really need to put out a trailer and fans would still watch the series in droves. That doesn’t mean I’m thankful as hell that we did get to see this cool new trailer. With Star Wars: The Ride of Skywalker being such a massive disappointment, at least to me, The Mandalorian was the saving grace of The Star Wars Universe in 2019. Earlier this year on Disney+, we got some of the best new Star Wars content in years with the fantastic final season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars. So hopefully, The Mandalorian Season 2 will be just as killer as Season 1, and make 2020 a great year to be a Star Wars fan. Take a look at the trailer right here:

Supernatural: The Final Episodes

Hey Everyone,

Paul here…

All good things must come to an end. After 15 seasons, of of my favorite TV series, Supernatural is riding the old 67’ Chevy Impala into the sunset. It’s bittersweet, I’ve been following these characters for over 15 years now, that’s a huge chunk of my life. After that long you almost feel like you know these fictional people. So saying goodbye to Supernatural, is a little bit like saying goodbye to a friend. However, I also believe that great stories require great endings. So even though I feel like I could watch Sam and Dean Winchester drive around the country in Baby (their aforementioned 67’ Chevy Impala) and hunt the things that go bump in the night, for many more years to come, i’m glad that they’re wrapping up the story while it’s still strong. Bowing out while you’re still beloved is far better than overstaying you’re welcome. Remarkably, even after 15 seasons Supernatural is still a damn good show. I’ve often said that Seasons 3-5 of Supernatural are among the best seasons of television I’ve ever seen. With its unique and heartfelt storytelling, Supernatural will remain a classic among genre fans for years to come.

Whenever people tell me that they’ve heard great things about the show and want to check it out, but they find Supernatural’s lengthy run a little daunting. I usually tell them that the show is well worth it, but there’s a great alternative if you just want to dip your toes into the Supernatural universe. The show’s creator Eric Kripke (currently the showrunner on AmazonPrime’s The Boys) has said that he always envisioned Supernatural as a five season show.  Seasons 1-5 are really one long narrative that wraps up perfectly in the Season 5 Finale. Everything in the show from the first episode on, culminates in the Season 5 Finale, which could have also served as a great series finale. So If you enjoy it and want to see more, you have another 10 seasons of the show to dive into. It’s kind of like Avengers: Endgame, even though we know that this universe and some of these characters are continuing on after this particular part of the saga, this is a definitive conclusion to the story that they told in the first five seasons of the series. And it is one hell of a Finale.

Seasons 6-10 are probably Supernatural’s weakest. Yet even at it’s lowest point, the series was never anything less than damn solid, with bright spots of brilliant episodes sprinkled throughout each of those seasons. However, something surprising and unusual, for a long running TV show, happened when the series returned for it’s 11th season. Supernatural achieved a second renaissance. The series was revitalized in its final seasons. With Seasons 11-13 in particular, the show returned to the glory days of it’s earlier years. It’s even more impressive because the show had a decade of storytelling behind it at that point. How many TV shows can say that they put out some of their very best content, after 10 years of storytelling?  This is one of the many reasons that Supernatural has such a devoted fan base.

So far The Final Season, Season 15, hasn’t disappointed. With Sam, Dean, and of course their best friend and fallen angel Castiel, going up against God himself (though he prefers to go by Chuck). Because of the coronavirus, instead of getting the final episode this past spring the show will be returning to air it’s final episodes on October 8 on The CW. Supernatural is one of The CW’s most popular shows and has been a flagship series for the network. The Final Episodes of Supernatural are being treated as special event by The CW. Apparently the ending we’re getting to Supernatural will be slightly different than the one we would have seen last Spring. I’ve heard a few people on the show say, that the extra time allowed the writers and producers  to fine tune The Final Episodes and work out any minor kinks. The longer Supernatural has to prepare for its grand finale the better. In a recent interview, Jensen Ackles who plays Dean Winchester explained that the penultimate episode serves as a season finale, with the final episode functioning as a series finale.

I can’t wait to see how it all plays out and I only became more excited when The CW put out these two new promos for the returning episodes, the final run of Supernatural. I’ve posted both of the trailers below for you to check out:

The finale episodes of Supernatural return October 8th on The CW

PODCAST: The Boys Season 2 (Episodes 1-3) Review!

Hey Everyone,

Paul here…

On this episode of “The World’s Best Podcast”, we review Episodes 1-3 of The Boys: Season 2, now available on AmazonPrime! Episode 3 in particular was fantastic. However, I have one big problem with Season 2 that has nohing to do with the quality of the series itself. I really hate that, unlike Season 1, the first 3 episodes were uploaded at the same time and all subsequent episodes will be released weekly, on every Friday. This is clearly not an episodic show, it’s one big story. It’s easy to see from the pacing and storytelling, that the creators of the series didn’t construct the season for this format.

I understand why a younger streaming service like Disney+ would do something like this, but a large part of the appeal of Netflix and AmazonPrime, is that when they premiere one of their original shows, every episode is immediately available. When a series drops all of it’s episodes at the same time, viewers to have the opportunity to binge watch a show like this, however they want. You could binge it all in one sitting, over a weekend, or over a few weeks, whatever works for each subscriber. Personally, I love the binge watch format. For a “MUST WATCH” like The Boys, I’ll usually go through the whole season over the course of a weekend. If I didn’t love the show so much and had more self-control, I’d wait until the season was over and binge watch it when all the episodes are out. Hopefully, this isn’t a phenomenon that we’ll see adopted more frequently in the future.

PODCAST: Lovecraft Country: Series Premiere Review!

Hey Everyone,

Paul here…

This week on The World’s Best Podcast, I review the premiere episode of HBO’s excellent new horror/drama series: Lovecraft Country. The new series, based on the novel of the same name by Matt Ruff, produced by Jordan Peele and J.J. Abrams.

It’s a story of Lovecraftian horror set in the backdrop of Jim Crow America, focusing on one an African-American family from the south side of Chicago. When the novel came out in 2016 it was my favorite book of the year and this new series looks to be an excellent adaptation! Lovecraft Country air Sunday nights on HBO at 9pm EST.

On this episode of The World’s Best Podcast, I review the new, 2nd season of the hit Netflix series The Umbrella Academy! The 1st season of the series based on the comic book created by Gerard Way (from the band My Chemical Romance) and Gabriel Ba’, which premiered last summer was one my favorite shows of 2019 and season 2 was one of my most anticipated shows of the year.
