PODCAST: Movie Theories & Urban Legends!

Hey Everyone,

Paul here…

On this episode of “The World’s Best Podcast”, I talk about some interesting fan theories regarding some of our favorite films, as well as some creepy Hollywood urban legends! For those of you who may not understand, when I say interesting Fan Movie Theories, we’re talking about picking up on subtext, hints, and other clues to formulate fun ideas and theories that aren’t necessary explicit and clear when watching a film. Don’t get me wrong, there have been one or two fan movies theories over the years that more or less turned. However, the vast majority of Fan Movie Theories are bullshit, but they sure are fun to discuss!

To name just a few of the movies covered in this episode:

  • The Dark Knight
  • The James Bond Franchise
  • Joker
  • Serenity
  • And much more!

Here are the 2 videos I referenced in this episode:

PODCASTS: DC’s Stargirl (TV Series) Review & Justice League Dark: Apokolips War Review!

Hey Everyone,

Paul here…

We’ve had a lot of great content on the site lately, so I wasn’t in a rush to post individual pages for the last couple of episodes of The World’s Best Podcast. Regardless, I still wanted to make sure I posted something about the latest episodes of the show. The first episode is my review of the DC Animated Movie, Justice League Dark: Apokolips War. The 2nd and latest podcast is my review for the great new DC live-action superhero series, Stargirl. We have the links for both podcasts posted below. I like to go out of my way to create a webpage for each of the episodes of The World’s Best Podcast, so I can add some cool new content, some additional insight into the episode, or bonus material. I have trailers for Justice League Dark: Apokolips War and DC’s Stargirl posted below, along with some interesting stills, photos, and concept images to give you a closer look at the projects I’m reviewing in these 2 episodes. You can check out that content right here.

First up, Justice League Dark: Apokolips War…

Justice League Dark: Apokolips War! Superman and the Justice League decide to take the fight to Darkseid and lose… badly. 2 years later, with many of the heroes dead and Earth decimated by Darkseid’s forces, a desperate and de-powered Clark Kent turns to John Constantine for help with a suicidal plan to end the threat of Darkseid once and for all.

Next, our latest episode reviewing the new series, DC’s Stargirl!

The new series based on the DC Comics hero, Stargirl created by Geoff Johns, will be airing on The CW and the DC UNIVERSE Streaming Service. The new show stars Brec Bassinger and Luke Wilson, the series also heavily features the heroes and villains from the classic DC comic book, JSA. Over the course of the first season, High School student Courtney Whitmore takes up the mantle of superhero, Stargirl with the help of her stepfather Pat (Luke Wilson), formally an unofficial member of the JSA who wears a giant robot super suit that he built, called S.T.R.I.P.E.

Together they’ll form a new generation of The JSA since the original JSA were killed by The Injustice Society. The society includes villains like Icicle, Solomon Grundy, Sportsmaster, Tigress, Brainwave, and The Dragon King.

PODCAST: How To Rob A Bank… with SUPERPOWERS!

Hey Everyone,

Paul here…

On this episode of The World’s Best Podcast, Paul Sr. and I discuss which superpowers would be the most useful if you were robbing a bank? As the discussion continues, more about Paul Sr.’s criminal past emerges…

Considering how often super villains rob banks in comic books, there aren’t that many bank robbery scenes in superhero films. However the few scenes that do exist are all pretty fucking awesome. I can think of three great ones… well, two and a half anyway.

  1. The iconic opening sequence of The Dark Knight, when The Joker and his gang of masked clowns rob a mob bank:

2. The great bank robbery scene in Spider-Man 2, where Doc Ock and The Ole’ Wallcrawler’s clash for the first time:

2b. This is what I meant when I said two and a half great bank robbery scenes in superhero movies. This scene from Spider-Man: Homecoming isn’t quite a bank robbery. It’s a bunch of thugs with high-tech weaponry trying to steal an ATM, but it’s still a lot of fun, so I wanted to include it here:

For more super-powered bank robbing shenanigans, make sure you listen to this episode of The World’s Best Podcast, posted right here.

PODCAST: Star Wars: The Clone Wars (The Final Season) REVIEW!

Hey Everyone,

Paul here…

On this episode of The World’s Best Podcast, I reviews the EPIC Final Season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars on Disney+! Other streaming services like Netflix or Amazon Prime release all the episodes of a new series when it premieres. Disney+ on the other hand only releases one new episode of a series each week. Personally, I prefer the “binge watching” format of Netflix. However, the weekly release of original Disney+ content, like the final season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, was probably a necessity for the relatively new streaming service.

When Disney+ launched last November, the vast majority of the people who subscribed to the service were there to watch the first live-action Star Wars series, The Mandalorian. If Disney+ released the entire season of The Mandalorian when it was launched, it’s likely that many people would have binge-watched the show and canceled their subscription when the finished Season 1. By making the audience to come back each week to watch new episodes of The Mandalorian, they’d also become more familiar with the service and the rest of the content available. I think when Disney+ has built up enough original content they may adopt the “binge” release format like other streaming services. It’s possible that, in a few years, the service could become a juggernaut because of all the toys Disney has at his disposal. There are six or seven new original shows being developed for Disney+ that are going to be part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This year alone will see the release of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier later this summer and WandaVision in December, with a LOKI series following shortly after, and that’s just the Marvel content. From the Star Wars universe, we have Season 2 of The Mandalorian premiering in October and a live action Obi-Wan Kenobi series starring Ewan McGregor in the works.

That was my long winded way of saying that, I showed a rare level of restraint and waited until all the episodes were available until I watched the final season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Man, I’m glad I did because the final four episodes of this series are among some of the very best Star Wars storytelling I have ever seen. The wait between those last four episodes must’ve been excruciating. I think it’s fair to say the the finale of this series will blow fans away! (This episode contains MILD SPOILERS)

PODCASTS: The Invisible Man Review! & My Special Appearance On Cuff’s Basement!

Hey Everyone,

Paul here…

This was a busy week, so I was late to post a webpage for the latest episode of The World’s Best Podcast, even though the episode came out earlier this week. I think it worked out well, because the delay meant that way I get to show you guys some cool content related to my review of The Invisible Man and promote my guest appearance on Tim Cuff and Ryan McDonald’s podcast, Cuff’s Basement! Going on that podcast was a lot of fun and you can read all about it below my invisible man review content.

Anyway, on this episode of “The World’s Best Podcast”, I review the excellent new thriller THE INVISIBLE MAN! Full Spoilers!  Listen here: https://www.spreaker.com/episode/23699306  Or subscribe on Stitcher, Spreaker, iHeartRadio, Deezer, Podchaser, Castbox, Podcast Addict, Google Podcasts, & Apple Podcasts/ITunes…

During this weeks episode, I talk about how The Invisible Man is among the roster of Universal’s Classic Movie Monsters

Icons such as, Dracula, The Wolfman, Frankenstein’s Monster, and more. These films are largely the reason vampires, werewolves, and various forms of the undead appear so frequently in our popular culture. There have been literally thousands of TV shows and movies featuring vampires and werewolves (sometimes even both). However, in other cultures around the world vampires and werewolves are far less prevalent in popular culture and take a backseat to other supernatural creatures.

I found this awesome piece of art online that gives us a more gruesome and terrifying look at Dracula, The Wolfman, and Frankenstein’s Monster, without losing the classic Universal Monsters “look” that made them so iconic!

During my review of The Invisible Man, I brought up several scenes I love from other movies starring classic universal monsters. Like this fantastic scene from 1999’s The Mummy starring Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weiss:

I LOVE 1999’s The Mummy and this is probably my favorite scene. Wait until the end, Brendan Fraser’s reaction to seeing The Mummy for the first time is fucking CLASSIC!

I also mentioned the iconic werewolf transformation scene in the film, An American Werewolf In London. As well as the much less iconic, but still interesting transformation scene from Benicio Del Toro‘s remake of The Wolfman. You can watch both clips below:

An American Werewolf in London (1981) Transformation Scene
The Wolfman (2010) Transformation Scene

Here’s a side-by-side comparison between The Invisible Man of 1933 and the new 2020 version (without giving too much away about what makes this new incarnation of The Invisible Man so cool…)

Well, that’s it for my review and coverage of The Invisible Man, but we’re not quite done yet today… Now, let’s switch gears here a little bit! It’s two podcasts for the price of one!

As some of my listeners may know, Ryan McDonald who is a frequent co-host on the The World’s Best Podcast and Tim Cuff who was my original co-host on the show, have their own fun and unique podcast called Cuff’s Basement. It’s hilarious, it’s weird, and it’s a blast to listen to. I recently had the chance to make an guest appearance on Cuff’s Basement, on an episode of the show where Ryan, Tim, and I  each picked our 3 Favorite Comic Book Superhero Movies of all time. Of course, being the comic book movie super fans that we are, this ended up being a three-part episode. You can listen to the first 2 installments of our 3-Part episode right now, through the link to the Cuff’s Basement iTunes feed, which I’ve posted below. While you’re there don’t forget to hit subscribe, so you can listen to Part-3 of our Best Superhero Movies podcast as soon as it’s posted! PODCAST: 2020 Movie & TV Preview! (Article Exclusive – Top Upcoming Graphic Novels)

Hey Everyone,

Paul here…

This week on “The World’s Best Podcast”, Paul Sr. and I give the listeners the rundown on coolest, biggest, and most highly anticipated movies and TV shows of 2020! Wonder Woman 1984! The Falcon and The Winter Soldier on Disney+, Marvel’s Black Widow, The Mandalorian Season 2, and so much more! We give you everything you need to know about the hottest film & TV projects of 2020, in this cant miss episode!

On this episode, I wanted to mention several graphic novels and comics that are coming out later this year that I am hugely looking forward to, but I forgot to mention them on the show. So I thought as a nice bit of extra content for this podcast webpage, I would post my list of my most anticipated comic book/graphic novel projects coming up in 2020:

Green Lantern: Earth One Vol.2 (Release Date – 6/9)

What’s The Deal?: Part of DC‘s Earth One series, which takes classic DC characters and lets talented creators tell out of continuity stories to take our heroes in exciting and unexpected new directions. This is a sequel to Green Lantern: Earth One Vol.1, which I would describe as if Stanley Kubrick ever did a Green Lantern story.  It’s pretty damn cool. I really enjoyed Vol.1 and Vol.2 looks to be even better.

DC: Death Metal (Release Date – 5/13)

What’s The Deal?: The epic sequel to Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo’s hit event miniseries, Dark Nights: Metal. Look for Wonder Woman and The Batman Who Laughs to play key roles in the story.

Batman/Catwoman (Release Date – Spring/Summer 2020)

What’s The Deal?: Writer Tom King and Artist Clay Mann continue the epic story of Bruce Wayne and Selina Kyle that Tom King began in Batman Rebirth #1. This 12 issue maxi-series has been described by King as his “Dark Knight Returns” and inspired by Grant Morrison’s excellent Batman and Robin. From a writer as talented as Tom King, those are some fantastic comparisons to make and with a spectacular art team backing him up, this is definitely a book to watch.

PODCAST: Paul’s ARROW Tribute!

Hey Everyone,

Paul here…

After 8 seasons and launching multiple fantastic spin-offs, like The Flash and Supergirl, The CW’s hit series ARROW has come to an end. “The Arrowverse” introduced fans to an entire universe of classic DC characters, many of which saw their live action debut on one of the “Arrowverse” series. However, let’s not forget that ARROW was the show that start it all! Over its 8 Season run, ARROW remained a consistently excellent superhero action-drama. With it’s incredible action and fight sequences, badass and compelling villains, and beloved characters, ARROW will be looked back on fondly as the series that changed superhero TV forever. On this episode of “The World’s Best Podcast”, we pay tribute and says goodby to one of my favorite shows.

I really like these sizzle reel videos that pop up on YouTube. Basically people take some of the coolest scenes and moments from beloved movies and TV shows and turn them into bad ass music videos. The MCU and the arrow verse in particular have quite a few. The video below is by far the best video tribute to Arrow that I have seen so far. It’s extremely well edited and the content is well chosen. If you’re a fan of Arrow or The Arrowverse, DO NOT miss this excellent tribute video:

This video was created by The Rusty Lion. For more great videos like this, look up The Rusty Lion on YouTube.

Who knows? After the awesome teaser in the final episode, where we see Diggle find a certain glowing green object that has crash landed from space in front of him, perhaps will be seeing him pop up in The Flash, Supergirl, or the upcoming Superman TV series? This might be a longshot but maybe even the upcoming Green Lantern Corps series that’s coming toHBO? It would be pretty cool. After all, they did finally reveal his real name is Jon Stewart…
