I recently had the opportunity to be a guest on the excellent CANTANKEROUS PODCAST, hosted by hilarious comedians Danny Kelly and Brian Glowacki! It was a blast and the episode is fantastic! Danny and Brian are both very funny and very talented comedians who’ve both worked with some of the biggest names is stand up. Back in the day when he lived in Los Angelos, Danny was a regular at the world famous Comedy Store, where so many legends of stand up have cur their teeth. Coming up as a comedian in L.A., Danny became buddies with guys like Chris Rock and Joe Rogan, while learning from killer comedians like Martin Lawrence and Andrew Dice Clay! Danny and Brian are both local guys, each growing up in the Boston area. Danny met Brian after watching one of his standup gigs in Nantucket. After the show Danny introduce himself, told Brian how much he enjoyed the show, and how he thought Brian was a very talented and funny guy. They’ve been good friends ever since. I felt like one of the guys when I sat down for an interview on their show, they couldn’t have made me feel more welcome. I just hope I have the chance to get to get the guys on The World’s Best Podcast again and hopefully I can make another appearance on CANTANKEROUS, as well!
You can also take a look at the official CANTANKEROUS website which features all of the episodes and info on the guys if you’re curious: http://cantankerous.libsyn.com

A cool little surprise hit the Internet today, with our first official look at Robert Pattinson suited up as The Dark Knight Detective himself, in the upcoming film directed by Matt Reeves, The Batman. This first look came courtesy of some test footage released of Pattinson in the new costume. It’s only about a minute long and we don’t get to see the full costume, but what we do see is very intriguing. I don’t want to over analyze things because we really only see the costumes from the mid-torso up. I will say, from what we do see, I thought it looked great. Pattinson certainly held himself well in the costume.
The Bat-Suit has been clearly influenced by the popular Arkham games, which has an armored, segmented design that you can see in the torso. Taking inspiration from the classic Arkham game series is a smart idea because the costumes on display in the games look both functional and beautifully designed. They are fantastic.
I also felt that there was a hint of Batman Beyond in the suit’s look, I can’t put my finger on. exactly what, but something about it felt a little Batman Beyond to me. Anyway, take a look at the costume in the video below and judge for yourself:
The Batman” hits theaters on June 25, 2021.

On this very special episode of “The World’s Best Podcast”, Tim Cuff makes his triumphant return to the show! Tim was one of the original co-hosts of “The World’s Best Podcast” and helped make the podcast the success that it is today! What better occasion to have Tim return to the show, than to join up with me to review “Birds of Prey”? The film focuses on Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn, who’s trying to survive the brutal Gotham underworld after her break up with The Joker. Harley allies herself with other classic DC characters like Black Canary, Huntress, and Det. Rene Montoya to take on the vicious Gotham crime boss, Black Mask. Tim and I are both DC mega-fans, so it’s been great to see the DCEU (or The Worlds of DC) get back on track with movies like Aquaman, SHAZAM!, and of course, JOKER. Does “Birds of Prey” continue DC’s winning streak or do we have another Suicide Squad on our hands? Check out the episode to find out! Enjoy! FULL SPOILERS!

Today on “The World’s Best Podcast”, we’re debuting the first installment of our brand new segment, we call: “Paul’s Movie Observations!”. Sometimes I’ll see something interesting in a movie, comic book or TV series that I’d like to share with my audiences, but doesn’t necessarily merit devoting a full episode of “The World’s Best Podcast”. That’s where “Paul’s Movie Observations” will come in! They’re going to be shorter segments, tackling one specific subject. If you enjoy it, please let us know in the comments below, we always love getting feedback, so Thanks!

Disappointed by the lackluster finale of The Skywalker Saga, in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker? Well, I have just the thing to wash that bad taste out of your mouth. Next month, Disney+ will be reviving the popular animated series, Star Wars: The Clone Wars for a seventh and final season. The show ran for five seasons on Cartoon Network and one additional season on Netflix. However, due to behind the scenes business deals at Lucasfilm, the creative team was never able to complete their planned seventh season. Recently, they dropped the latest trailer for this new installment of Star Wars: The Clone Wars and it looks exciting and fun as hell. The series developed a significant following over the years, so the show’s many fans were disappointed that they never got to see the final season. With the new batch of episodes premiering on Disney+, fans can finally get some closure and fill in some gaps in the character arcs of fan favorite characters like Anakin Skywalker’s pandawan Ashoka Tano, former Sith Lord Darth Maul, and of course Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker. Now viewers will finally be able to see the end of the story as the show’s creators intended.
Ashoka Tano, The Apprentice of Anakin Skywalker. After her mistreatment by The Jedi Council, she made the decision to leave The Jedi Order. Not a Sith, but no longer a Jedi, she’s what you might call a neutral Force user. Though no longer a Jedi Knight, she still uses her considerable Force abilities to fight for peace and justice.
The final season also promises to show audiences The Siege of Mandalore, which shares a major connection to the recent hit, live-action Star Wars series The Mandalorian. The Siege was briefly shown in several flashbacks, where we see a young Din Djarin (The Mandalorian’s real name) as his parents desperately try to get him to the safety in the Umiddle of a massive battle. Young Mando is ultimately forced to watch as his mother and father are killed in the brutal massacre.
If you need another reason to check out the show, this season only takes place a short time before Revenge of The Sith. With the exception of Episode III, this will be the closest we’ve ever seen Anakin to the Darkside, before he fully crosses the line and becomes Darth Vader. At the end of the last season of The Clone Wars, Anakin’s relationship with The Jedi Council had never been more strained. When Ashoka, Anakin’s apprentice, was framed for a crime she didn’t commit, The Jedi Council presumed her guilt with little to no inquiry and hunted her down. When she was ultimately exonerated, Ashoka left The Jedi Order. Anakin, who’d maintained Ashoka’s innocence from the beginning, was disgusted by the entire ordeal and his animosity and frustration with The Jedi continued to fester.
I’m really looking forward to see how the show will ride that fine line between Anakinq a Jedi leaning towards the Darkside and the evil Darth Vader he will ultimately become. It’s one of the most interesting periods in the life of Anakin Skywalker, so it should be pretty fun to watch unfold onscreen.
Maul
Also, let’s not forget that it’s always a thrill to hear Sam Witwer return as Maul. Yes, Maul. Not Darth Maul. Just… Maul. Darth is a title given only to Sith Lords. While he’s still a very powerful force user, and hell with a light saber, he is most definitely no longer a Sith Lord. Before the events of the new season, Maul had become the Kingpin of scum and villainy in the galaxy’s underworld. He even makes a pretty cool cameo at the end of Solo: A Star Wars Story, as the boss of all bosses that Emilia Clark’s character had to report to at the end of that film. Even though it’s very unlikely that we’ll see a sequel to Solo: A Star Wars Story, it would’ve been really cool to see Maul in live action again, especially because his character is so different from his debut in The Phantom Menace. Maul went through a lot of change and development in television shows, novels, and comic books that are all official Star Wars canon. It would be pretty goddamn amazing to see Han Solo and Chewie mixing it up with Maul: Kingpin of The Galaxy! But that’s besides the point, bottom line it’s great to see that Maul will be a significant part of the new season. Of course, I’m also excited to see Maul and Ashoka face off this season, as we see teased in the trailer.
Anyway, without further ado, check out the trailer for yourself right here:
On a personal note, I feel like I should mention that I truly believe Season One is not worth your time. It was one of those shows that just took a while to get going and it really didn’t hit its stride until about halfway into Season Two. So at the very least avoid Season One of Star Wars: The Clone Wars as well as the terrible animated movie of the same name that kicked off the series.
Let me know what you guys think of the new trailer! Are you excited for the final season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars? Let me know in the comments below!

I wanted to wrap up my look back at last year with my top 10 Movies of 2019. On last week’s episode of The World’s Best Podcast, we went over our favorite TV shows of 2019. Normally, I’d devote an episode of the podcast to my favorite films of the past year, but as I mentioned on last week’s episode, with exception of some great blockbuster, superhero films, I thought 2019 was a relatively week year for movies. Still, I wanted to share my favorites with you. So without further ado, here are my Top 10 Movies of 2019…
The Death and Return of Superman
The DC Animated film was originally released in 2-parts, now the story can be watched as one film, as it was meant to be. The movie deals with the death of Superman after his devastating fight with Doomsday and how the world, his allies, and his enemies deal with the aftermath of a world without The Man of Steel. Taken as a whole, this is one of the better DC animated movies to be released in quite some time.
SHAZAM!
This was a really good year for live action DC films. SHAZAM! was very a fun superhero movie for the whole family.
JOKER
Director Todd Phillips certainly does a great job creating a Gotham city filled with despair and darkness, but this film rides on the back of the mesmerizing and incredible performance of Joaquin Phoenix as titular Clown Prince of Crime.
I Am Mother
A very cool sci-fi gem about humanity and artificial intelligence where nothing is quite what it seems.
Missing 411: The Hunted
A thought provoking and chilling documentary about hundreds of unexplainable missing persons cases throughout our National Parks system. These are bizarre disappearances that have been ruled out as animal attacks, lost hikers/hunters dying of exposure, and traditional homicides or kidnappings. Good luck sleeping on your next camping trip after watching this one!
Captain Marvel
Brie Larson is great as Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel alongside Samuel L. Jackson as a much younger Nick Fury. Classic Marvel Comics stories like The Kree/Skrull War make their jump to the big screen. Like Captain America: The First Avenger, I love how Marvel chose to make this a period film (which is something I’d love to see more of). Taking place almost 30 years ago, this film fills us in on some very important events in MCU history.
IT: Chapter 2
Though not quite as good as the first film, this is still an excellent film that wraps up the story of IT and the now grown friends who have vowed to put an end to the creature’s horror.
Spider-Man: Far From Home
Probably the best Spider-Man film since Spider-Man 2, which is high praise (With the exception of Spider-Man: Into The Spiderverse). The bar was pretty high for the film’s villain after Michael Keaton’s excellent appearance as Adrian Toomes AKA The Vulture in the last film, but Jake Gyllenhaal is more than up to the challenge as the creepy and formidable Mysterio.
John Wick: Chapter 3 Parabellum
Somehow these movies just keep getting better. Keanu Reeves returns as The Angel of Death, Baba Yaga, The Boogeyman himself, John Mutha’ Fucking Wick! ‘Nuff said!
Avengers: Endgame
C’mon, you saw this coming. Was there really ever going any other movie at number #1? The fact that after 23 films, Marvel was not only able to make an excellent movie, but also a genuinely satisfying ending to The Infinity Saga is incredible. This is one of the best superhero films ever made.

A brand new Black Widow trailer dropped today. Not much to say about this one, I’ve liked everything that I’ve seen so far. I’m really rooting for this movie to be good because I really like the character of Natasha Romanoff and Scarlett Johansson is great in the role. My only concern is that the film could veer into overly familiar territory. We’ve already seen quite a bit of espionage, action movie material in The MCU with movies like Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Hopefully Black Widow finds a way to differentiate itself from similar films that have come before. Even though this new trailer is relatively short and has some material from the first teaser, we do get quite a bit of new footage as well. Most notably, we see Natasha facing off against the villain Taskmaster, making his MCU debut in this film. I’ve wanted to see Taskmaster pop-up in The MCU for a while now and I’m very excited to see more of him in action. Taskmaster has the ability to mimic the fighting skills and abilities of anyone he faces in combat, so he’s extremely difficult to fight. The longer you engage with him, the more of your own moves he can pick up and turn against you. Not to mention the skills he’s accumulated from other people he’s fought. Taskmaster’s copycat ability only work with normal, human opponents, he can’t duplicate any kind of meta-human superpowers. He’s an extremely dangerous villain and a great character for this type of movie. Anyway, check out the trailer below:
UPDATED: Marvel also released a short Black Widow featurette focused on the character’s evolution and her importance in The MCU. Scarlett Johansson and Kevin Fiege are featured reflecting on the journey from the character’s beginning in Iron Man 2 up to her first solo movie. Check it out:

The new trailer for Birds of Prey (Or The Who Gives A Fuck Bullshit of Fucking Harley Quinn) has dropped. Do with that information what you will. My only interest in this movie is a vague curiosity about how characters I’ve been reading on the comic book pages for years, will be translated into into a live action big budget comic book movie. Check out the trailer here and then read my thoughts on the project below: https://youtu.be/x3HbbzHK5Mc
Is it just me or does it seem like Warner Bros. really doesn’t give a shit about this movie? It should be a bigger event for DC/Warner Bros., studios have seemed to realize niche genre movies released I’m mid-February have a tendency to do well. Movies like Kingsman: The Secret Service and Deadpool we’re both big successes, coming out on, or near, Valentines Day weekend. So at the very least, this seems like a good spot to release a movie like this. But it feels like two steps forward one step back with DC. After a string of hits with Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Shazam!, and Joker, as well as the. highly anticipated Wonder Woman 1984 coming out this summer, Birds of Prey seems like a step backwards into the realm of Suicide Squad and Justice League.
On one hand, this look like it could be a real dumpster fire, but there’s a part of me that thinks there’s a small chance it could be cool. After watching the trailer a few times, I’ll say this for the trailer, it definitely has a fun energy to it. I also noticed some interesting elements and choices made by the filmmakers. For example, there are big visual cues and callbacks to several excellent Harley Quinn focused episodes of Batman The Animated Series like “Harley’s Holiday”, “Harlequinade”, and “Harley and Ivy”. If there’s any source material Birds of Prey would be wise to draw inspiration from, it’s Batman The Animated Series . Especially because two of the leads in Birds of Prey, Rene Montoya (Rosie Perez) and Harley Quinn, were characters that were created on Batman The Animated Series and eventually made their jump into the comic books. One of the things I disliked about Suicide Squad was how little they used Harley’s story from Batman The Animated Series. The film didn’t have any interest in showcasing the fascinating and complex relationship that developed between Harley and The Joker, while she was treating him as a psychiatrist at Arkham. Suicide Squad also opted to use an inferior, new origin for Harley that had recently been showcased at the time in a DC Comics revamp, instead of using the superior transformation from Dr. Harleen Quinzell into Harley Quinn that we saw in The Animated Series, (for what little they showed of her origin and her relationship with The Joker at all).
Then there are the problems with the villains in the movie. I love seeing Ewan McGregor in a DC movie, I just wish he was playing a more interesting character than Black Mask (and what seems to be an extremely loose interpretation of Black Mask at that). There was a rumor a while back that Ewan McGregor would feature in the rumored Justice League Dark movie where he was supposedly going to play either John Constantine or Jason Blood/Etrigan The Demon. McGregor would have been amazing in either of those roles and they’re both far more interesting than Black Mask. Which brings me to another double edge sword presented by this film. I like the inclusion of lesser used Batman villains like Roman Sionus a.k.a. Black Mask and Victor Zsasz, but they seem to be different enough from their comic book counterparts to wonder why they were included at all. I understand what works on the comic book page may not work on the big screen and certain things get lost in translation, especially from one medium to another. Sometimes those changes can even be for the better. However, it seems like these characters are Black Mask and Zsasz in name only, so why bother to use them? I could be wrong, I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.
To wrap things up, I’ve seen more negatives than positives when it comes to Birds Of Prey, so my expectations are pretty low going into this. But sometimes the best movie going experiences happen when your expectations for a film are in the toilet and the movie pleasantly surprises you.
