At long last, Special guest co-host Mike Cole returns to The World’s Best Podcast! He and I set out to discuss the work of filmmaker Kevin Smith. His movies, his comics, his podcasts, his whole career. The highs and the lows. Buuuuut… when you get a couple of old friends together and the crazy, absurd stories start flying, it’s easy for everything to go of the rails. Boy, did it! In the best possible way. This is a 2-Part Episode so we still have plenty of Kevin Smith analysis coming your way. But in this podcast, enjoy some ridiculous, profane, and hopefully pretty damn funny stories! We did manage to get just a little bit of Kevin Smith discussion here or there, though.
(His weight loss transformation has been incredible. He’s the last guy I’d expect to make a change like this. Yes, the heart attack was a huge factor, but he’d already lost a lot of weight at least a year or two before the incident. I think it’s very inspirational)
We had a lot of fun recording this one and I hope it shows in the episode. On a technical note, Mike and I recorded this in different states, so just once or twice in the show his voice is a little lower than mine, but you can still hear him loud and clear. For now please enjoy this hilarious episode about love, life, high school, mental illness, and of course, penises. Listen here or subscribe on Stitcher and iTunes:
Check out the scene below from Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, probably one of my favorite scenes in any Kevin Smith flick (or any flick for that matter). From Jay’s incredulous, pitch perfect “What The Fuck Is The Internet?!” to Affleck reading the comments section, it’s all gold.
Without a doubt one of my favorite things that I look forward to each year is The CW’s Arrowverse Crossover Event. They hit a new high last year with Crisis On Earth-X and this year looks to be just as exciting with the crossover involving “the world” of Gotham City and the debut of Ruby Rose as Batwoman. But that’s not all, which I’ll get to in a minute.
No Batman though. Warner Bros. just will not let them play with Batman for some reason on live action TV (No, Gotham doesn’t count). Which is weird because they’ve established that Batman exists in this universe:
*(If you’re curious I’ve put a longer video with all of the Batman/Bruce Wayne references in the Arrowverse so far at the end if this article)
Also, it seems problematic from a storytelling standpoint to introduce Batwoman as a major new character in this universe (she’s getting her own show next year in case you didn’t know) and not reference Batman AT ALL. I mean, sure it’s not impossible, but it seems like unnecessarily complicated writing. People don’t know the deal with Batwoman like they do with Batgirl, Robin, or Nightwing. She is a fucking awesome character, FYI and anyone who’s curious about her should check out this fantastic graphic novel by Greg Rucka and J.H. Williams:
(Here’ the link to buy it on amazon, which I highly recommend)
This has been an annoying line in the sand that WB drew a long time ago. I remember for years fans of that Smallville clamored for a young Bruce Wayne cameo to no avail. Fortunately, they did allow the Arrowverse to have a pretty fucking awesome Superman with Tyler Hoechlin in the role as Clark Kent. To make this crossover 100 time more exciting, SUPERMAN and LOIS LANE are joining the crossover for all 3 episodes! This isn’t a cameo either, they will be major players in the entire story. Hoechlin is an excellent Superman, and almost more importantly, a great Clark Kent. So it’s great to see him back in the role in a big way.
This is really cool for a few reason, first this will be the first time Superman has interacted with any characters in the Arrowverse besides Supergirl characters. Supergirl technically lives on another Earth than all of the other Arrowverse heroes and Superman has only ever appeared on Supergirl. Though on last years crossover, Eobard Thawne AKA Reverse-Flash makes a comment to Supergirl that he fought he cousin in the future and smugly says “He’s fast. But I’m faster.” Could this mean Thawne could pop up as well in the crossover? I know I’d love to see him fight Superman. Anyway, it will be so cool to see the MAN OF STEEL finally fighting along side Green Arrow, Flash, Vibe, and all the other heroes of the Arrowverse. Unfortunately, Legends of Tomorrow will NOT be a part of this crossover. As much as I would have liked to see the crew of The Waverider and especially John Constantine as a part of all this, I understand why they chose to exclude the show this year.
Which brings me the other reason this is a really cool piece of news, coming over to Earth-1 along with her husband is iconic DC character Lois Lane, making her Arrowverse debut! Lois hasn’t been cast yet, but the fact that she’s a big part of the crossover as well is really thrilling to this old comic book fan!
Now, we just need an awesome DC villain (Or Villains?) worthy to go up against these iconic characters…
The 3 Episode Crossover begins with a special Sunday night premiere on 12/9 at 8pm and wraps up Tuesday 12/11 at 8pm! I cant fucking wait!
* (Oh and here’s that video with ALL of the Arrowverse references to Batman)
Netflix released an cool new trailer for Iron Fist Season 2! Check it out here and then read my trailer breakdown with pics from EW.com below:
Now THIS is more like it! After a somewhat disappointing first season, Iron First has been steadily improving as a character with each appearance in the MCU. From The Defenders to Luke Cage Season 2 to this awesome trailer for Iron Fist Season 2, it seems like we’re getting closer and closer to Danny Rand from the comics that we all want to see.
To finally see Davos (Danny’s best friend from K’un L’un, who we met in Season 1) become his own “immortal weapon” as The Steel Serpent is so fucking cool. Many of you may not remember, but this a character that was teased as far back as Daredevil Season 1. I can’t wait to see the backstory behind Davos’ new abilities and I wouldn’t be surprised if Madam Goa had a hand in creating The Steel Serpent.
After all, Season 1 ended with Davos and Joy Meachum discussing the destruction of Danny with Madam Goa listening intently near by. I also loved seeing the Iron Fist being used so much, I honestly think we saw the Iron Fist used more in this trailer than in all of Season 1. To my delight, much like Daredevil, it seems that Iron Fist is slowly developing a costume of his own.
We don’t see much of the Season’s other big villain Typhoid Mary (played by Alice Eve) except for some brief fight shots. We do get to see a lot of Misty Knight and Colleen Wing. I know for a fact they’re going full Daughter’s of The Dragon team-up this season, which is exciting for any hardcore Marvel fan. Now we just need HEROES FOR HIRE, DAMMIT!
The fight choreography looks like it’s improved in a big way, especially when it comes to Danny. Not to mention the fights look like they’ve upped the brutality to Daredevil levels. The Immortal Iron Fist should be the greatest martial artist in the world and I hope we finally get to see that in Season 2.
Marvel and Netflix made another very smart move and went from 13 episodes in Season 1 to 10 episodes in Season 2. Considering the show faced some criticism for pacing issues, I think this is a smart move. As much as I love most of the Marvel Netflix shows, each Season of each show usually has one or two episodes that drag the season down, basically filler episodes. A tighter 10 episode season could add excitement and drama, giving the show the momentum that was missing in Season 1. It will be interesting to see if Netflix uses this new 10 episode model for all of their Marvel shows. It makes sense because, from 2018 going forward we’re getting 4 Marvel Netflix shows each year. This year, it was Jessica Jones Season 2, the excellent Luke Cage Season 2, Iron Fist Season 2, and Daredevil Season 3 in December.
I went from cautiously optimistic to very excited for Iron Fist Season 2. Now, I know Rule #1 at World’s Best Media is: DON’T TRUST TRAILERS! However, despite my better judgement, I’m going to go out on a limb and say that this could be the Iron Fist series we all hoped for when Season 1 premiered.
Iron Fist Season 2 premiers September 7 on Netflix.
We’re deep into the dog days of summer and what better why to beat the heat than to sit back and watch a couple of great TV shows! In this episode, I recommend 2 great shows to watch while waiting for all your favorite series to return in the Fall! Hulu’s Castle Rock and Freeform’s Cloak & Dagger! Castle Rock is supernatural mystery/thriller that takes place in the universe of Stephen King’s novels. Cloak & Dagger is superhero, coming of age series, about 2 classic Marvel superheroes. These are 2 very different shows, but both are a blast to watch! Listen here or subscribe on Stitcher and iTunes:
Netflix has just put out trailer’s for two of their hit shows, Castlevania and Iron Fist. Castlevania was amazing, but the first season was way too short, so it’ll be nice to see this fantastic series play out over a longer season. Next we have Iron Fist, which did have a dissapointing first season, but his appearances in The Defender’s and especially Luke Cage Season 2, makes me think Marvel finally has a grasp on how to make this character work. Plus, the promotional material has had a little bit more flair and the promos seem more exciting. So I’m cautiously optimistic for Seaon 2 of Iron Fist. Check out the trailers and some cool promo images below!
Years ago there was a script for a Green Arrow movie called Supermax that involved Green Arrow being arrested, framed for murder, and being sent to a Supermax prison. There would be cameos from big DC villains like Lex Luthor and The Joker, but the story would involve Oliver Queen having to team up with some of the DC’s B- list villains to escape and clear his name. The way Arrow ended season six made me think they may use story elements from this canceled film. After seeing characters like Bronze Tiger and Brick locked up in the same prison with Oliver, I think at least part of the season will go in that direction. Take a little look:
DC’s Legends of Tomorrow season 4:
Right now Legends of Tomorrow is probably my favorite of the Arrowverse DC shows. It’s a lot of fun, it has great characters. The big draw for me this year is John Constantine is finally becoming a series regular on one of these shows. I think Constantine fits in perfectly with the rest of the Legends, especially after his excellent appearances in season 3. Check out the season 4 trailer below:
The Flash season 5:
There was a time when The Flash was by far one of my favorite shows on television, but sadly those days are long behind us. The show has a lot to make up for after what is without a doubt it’s worst season last year. But the trailer for season five has promise and I’m very curious to see who that villain is at the end.
Supernatural season 14
C’mon guys, did you really think I wasn’t going to included something from Supernatural throughout my Comic-Con coverage? I love this show!
The Batman Who Laughs miniseries by Scott Snyder & Jock
Acclaimed DC Comics writer Scott Snyder and artist Jock will be bringing us a new miniseries that brings Snyder back to his horror roots! This November they’ll be putting out a new story following one of the breakout characters from Dark Nights: Metal, The Batman Who Laughs. That’s a very winning writer, artist, character combo, so I know I’ll be reading.

Here’s the first trailer for TITANS from the upcoming streaming service DC UNIVERSE:
Here’s a new look at the upcoming third season of Young Justice: Outsiders. This shows some of the new characters we’ll be seeing, including a major DC villain that was a part of the season two finale cliffhanger. Check out the photo here:
DC Comics has announced that legendary writer Grant Morrison will be taking over the Green Lantern book with artist Liam Sharp. The book will star Hal Jordan and focus on the idea of Hal Jordan as a “Space Cop”, with the story being like a space/sci-fi police procedural as opposed to the universe ending space epics of Geoff Johns’ run. DC has release some art from the new series which you can check out below.
The animated series Star War: The Clone Wars has always had a big fan base. So many were dissapointed when the show was cancelled before the story could be finished. But today Disney/Lucasfilm announced that Star Wars: The Clone Wars is returning! Some of the series most believed characters are returning with it. Check out the trailer here!

The Walking Dead Season 9 Trailer
I have a love hate relationship with The Walking Dead. When the series started, I thought it was one of the best shows on TV, but signs of trouble started as early as season 2. As of last season I swore I’d never watch the show again. The show’s terrible writing constantly resorts to cheap tricks to keep the audience invested, lazy filler writing, and unnecessarily drawn out storylines. I have a theory that with any given season of The Walking Dead, all you really need to watch are the season premiere, the mid-season finale, the mid-season premiere, and the season finale. Everything else is filler. Having said all that, I think this is an intriguing trailer and we’ll have to see if I give in and watch the new season which premiers on October 10th. It’s also notable that this is Andrew Lincoln’s last season as Rick, the shows main character, so it may be intersting to see how this plays out on TV. Especially when Rick is alive and well in the comics. Check out the trailer below:
Young Justice: Outsider Trailer
I was a massive fan of this show, so i was ecstatic when it was announced that the series would be returning for a 3rd season. This is one of the big ones for me and I love what I’ve seen so far…
Iron Fist: Season 2 Teaser
Iron Fist was definitely off to a rocky start in it’s first season, but his character is on the upswing. He improved in The Defenders and we got by far the best version of the character yet when he teamed up with his old buddy Luke in Luke Cage Season 2. I wish this was Season 3 of Daredevil though. Because Iron Fist Season 2 premiers September 7th, it’s unlikely we’ll see a 4th Marvel Netflix show before the end of the year. However, with Typhoid Mary (played by Alice Eve), Davos AKA The Steel Serpent, and the show moving forward with Daughters of The Dragon, I’m cautiously optimistic that Season 2 could be the Iron Fist series we’ve all been waiting for.
Below is some cool artwork that accompanied the Season 2 announcement …

Batman: Three Jokers
Famed DC Comics creator Geoff Johns has two big comic book projects that received some attention at one of Comic-Con’s DC Comics panels. First, is the announcement of Batman: Three Jokers. This is a project that was first teased a few years ago during the Justice League story arc The Darseid War in which Batman cryptically found out that there were in fact “three Jokers“. There’s been a lot of speculation as to what that means exactly, but apparently the book will focus on how The Joker (or Jokers?) has affected the lives of Barbara Gordon, Jason Todd, and Bruce Wayne specifically. There’s no official release date but the three issue miniseries will be drawn by Jason Fabok and debut later this year. This project has me nervous for a few reasons. First and foremost being, that under no circumstances should there be a DEFINITIVE Joker origin. By all means, hint and tease possibilities. Stories like The Killing Joke, Mask of The Phantasm, and Endgame have all alluded to POSSIBLE origins and backgrounds, but nothing definitive. One of the coolest aspects of The Joker is that we have no fucking idea who he is. Outside of rumors or maybes it needs to stay that way. My other cause for concern, surprisingly is Geoff Johns himself. He’s easily one of my favorite and the best writers in the history of comics. But as he says himself, this is his first crack at writing a solo Batman story in continuity (his only other solo Batman work is Batman: Earth One). Despite his undeniable genius at writing almost any other DC character, I often find myself disliking his portrayal of Batman. When he’s written Batman in team books or events, I feel he often writes the character in ways that ring false. He’s completely unlike every other character John’s has taken a crack at and I feel Batman’s the one DC character John’s doesn’t really understand. I don’t want a writer, even one as indisputably brilliant as Geoff Johns, who seems to lack a fundamental understanding of The Dark Knight, writing one of the most important Batman stories ever told. Hopefully I’m proven woefully wrong.
Next we have a much lighter book, Geoff Johns is returning to SHAZAM! this November. Dale Eaglesham is set to draw the monthly series

Glass Trailer
Fuck. Yes.
UPDATED (7/21):
Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald
I enjoyed the first Fantastic Beasts movie, but I hated the reveal of Johnny Depp as Grindelwald (especially when they already had Colin Farrell which would have been an infinitely better choice). I will say it looks like Depp he’s doing something that I thought was impossible… reigning it in. He seems to be giving a much more subdued performance here and from the trailer I’m intrigued. I love the idea that this war in the wizard world made Dumbledore the famous wizard that he is. Plus, a world war of wizards during our World War II just sounds like a cool fucking story. I don’t want to forget to say Jude Law is perfectly cast as young Dumbledore. So despite my issues I’ll definitely be checking this one out. I have the trailer right here :
I’ve been thinking a lot lately that the characters from the TV and Movies of the Marvel Cinematic Universe need to crossover. It is long past time that the guys over at Marvel Studios, stop measuring each other’s dicks and get the heroes and characters from the Netflix shows to appear in the Marvel films.
The head of Marvel’s film division is Kevin Fiege and all of the television and streaming content is overseen by Jeph Loeb. I have a lot of respect for Kevin Fiege. I think he’s the main reason the Marvel Cinematic Universe has become the success that it has. He’s always believed that following the incredible stories and characters from the comics and translating that to film has been the key to their success. I’m paraphrasing, but I’ve heard him say that as he was coming up as a junior producer on other less successful Marvel films at other studios, he’d often wonder “Why don’t they just follow the comic book?”. It’s all right their on the page. MCU films aren’t shot for shot, panel for panel adaptations of the comics they’re based on. However they completely understand why something works in the comics and then adapt that to film in the way that makes the most sense. They get the core of the stories right by respecting the incredible stories from Marvel Comics. However, most importantly Marvel Studios understands the importance of character. Marvel has incredible characters and they’ve done an excellent job of translating that to film. Character, character, character: the secret to their success. Which Kevin Fiege understands perfectly.
Jeph Loeb on the other hand I have a less high opinion on. He’s written some great comics in the past, but over the last 20 years he can be described as a hack at best. I’ve never been comfortable with him being the final word on all things from Marvel’s television division. He seems to be arrogant and egotistical. Possibly worst of all he seems to think he’s smarter than he really is. The guy wrote Commando with Schwarzenegger, he’s not exactly Shakespeare. Obviously I have a bias here. I don’t like Jeph Loeb. So even though I’m not 100% sure, I suspect he’s the main barrier that separates Marvel TV and Marvel Film coming together. This isn’t just based on my opinion. Most articles discussing when and if MCU characters from TV will make it to the movies, make it seem as if the guys making the films are more open to the idea. The TV folks, usually producers, are the ones who tend to down play the chance of a crossover. But maybe I’m underestimating Mr. Loeb. I can only judge his very uneven track record.
This is very cool, but not the real poster for Spider-Man Far From Home. Just a fantastic piece of fan art.
Marvel finally got SPIDER-MAN in their movies, they can get Daredevil into one of their flicks. Tony Stark is aware of Peter Parker’s relatively unremarkable burgeoning superhero career in Civil War, when Peter’s only had his powers for 6 months. The Devil of Hell’s Kitchen and the bulletproof Hero of Harlem are major news stories. There’s no way some one like Tony Stark, The Avengers, the people behind the Accords, and what’s left of SHIELD aren’t aware of these guys. Hell, New York City was in more danger in The Defenders than some of the threats in the big screen Marvel films. It would be really cool of The Avengers took notice of this.
The hero from TV I really want to see on the big screen is Daredevil (THIS Daredevil, Charlie Cox). Specifically, I’d love to see him in Spider-Man: Far From Home. I like the idea that, like Tony Stark in the first film, Peter has a hero mentor in each of his films that teaches him something new about being a hero and growing up. Daredevil is the perfect character for the second film. In the comics he’s the character Peter associates with most besides Johnny Storm who’s more of a peer than someone Peter looks up to. Peter’s also seen enough and been through enough at this point that he’d be ready for the more mature lessons he’d undoubtedly learn from a darker, street level character like Matt Murdock. He’s more of Peter’s world than Tony was and Matt could open Peters eyes to some hard truths about the way the world works in a way that Tony couldn’t.
I really think that eventually Marvel will break down this barrier and we’ll see crossovers between TV and Film. They’ve said time and again that PHASE 4 is something completely new. What better way to send that message than break some of their old, stupid rules and put Daredevil in the next Spider-Man movie? Here’s hoping…
Some really cool concept art from upcoming superhero projects has hit the internet today. Including our best looks at Captain Marvel and Robin from DC’s Titans. Most of this I found over at CBR.com, but first is the concept art that looks like it’s from the upcoming Captain Marvel film. The big giveaway being the look at a young Nick Fury, which is very cool. Check it out:
Then we have a few cool concept art images that are definitely from Avengers 4…
A few things to point out here include, Hawkeye is finally back (Yay!), Hulk seems to have a costume of some sort. Does this help regulate his transformation from Banner to Hulk and vice versa? Consider they had performance issues in Infinity War that could be a factor. This image of Thanos is interesting because he’s armored up and he has a gun. Why does he need all that if he has the Infinity Gauntlet? Is it working properly? Or did he blow its load killing half the Universe? SO MANY QUESTIONS!!!!!
Finally, moving from Marvel over to DC, we have our best look yet at Dick Grayson Robin from Titans, the new series from the upcoming DC streaming service, DC UNIVERSE. Take a look…
Cool stuff, huh? Anyway thanks for checking us out as always!
