As a diehard Marvel Cinematic Universe fan, I feel like I’m going through MCU withdrawals. If it wasn’t for this fucking COVID-19 pandemic, we’d have already seen the much anticipated Black Widow movie, The Falcon and The Winter Soldier would be streaming on Disney+, and we’d be gearing up for the release of The Eternals in a little over a month. I know there are much, much worse things that are happening because of the COVID-19 outbreak and the pandemic is just one of the many shitty things that have happened during this awful year. In my lifetime, I don’t think there’s been a more horrific year for America than 2020 (Let’s just hope 2021 will be an improvement). So by comparison it may seem a little silly to be complaining about a few movies and TV shows that we weren’t able to watch. However, the stories told like the ones in the MCU, allow people an escape from the terrible things going on in the real world, even if it’s just for a little while. It’s like I always say, you can’t underestimate the profound effect of storytelling. Stories are huge part of what makes us human.
On the bright side, they say absence makes the heart grow fonder. It almost seems appropriate for audiences to get a break from the MCU for a little while. Marvel just finished telling one epic story with The Infinity Saga and the next Marvel project to come out will be the beginning of a whole new chapter in The MCU. Finally after delays and rescheduling we finally know what story is going to kick off Phase 4 of The MCU: WandaVision on Disney+. The first trailer for the new miniseries has just been released and you can check it out below. It looks trippy as hell in the best possible way. I have a little bit more I want to say about this very unique looking story, but for now I’ll just start by posting the new trailer. Take a look:
WandaVision doesn’t have a definitive release date yet, but it will premiere before the end of the year. Expect to see WandaVision premiere on Disney+ sometime around early December. So what did you folks think of the trailer for WandaVision? Let me know in the comments below!

With Season 2 of the hit Disney+ show, The Mandalorian, premiering on October 30, I knew it was only a matter of time before we got our first look at the new season. At long last, the first trailer for The Mandalorian Season 2 ha dropped online. Let’s be honest here, we would all be excited for this show no matter what, The Mandalorian was one of the best new series to come out last year. Disney + and Lucasfilm didn’t even really need to put out a trailer and fans would still watch the series in droves. That doesn’t mean I’m thankful as hell that we did get to see this cool new trailer. With Star Wars: The Ride of Skywalker being such a massive disappointment, at least to me, The Mandalorian was the saving grace of The Star Wars Universe in 2019. Earlier this year on Disney+, we got some of the best new Star Wars content in years with the fantastic final season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars. So hopefully, The Mandalorian Season 2 will be just as killer as Season 1, and make 2020 a great year to be a Star Wars fan. Take a look at the trailer right here:

I was happy to see a new (and probably final) trailer for The Boys Season 2 pop up online today. There’s really not a whole lot to say about this one. I love everything I see in this trailer. Season One was among the best shows of 2019, in a very competitive year for fantastic television programming. They don’t need to sell me any more on this. September 4th can’t get here fast enough! Check out the new trailer below:

A few new trailers for upcoming Netflix projects dropped this week (one returning series and one film). They both look pretty cool. I had some brief thoughts that I wanted to share about them and you can take a look at some images and the trailers for yourself below…
Project Power
Until movie theaters open again, God knows when, because of the massive shit show that is the Coronavirus outbreak, we’re going to have to settle for getting of Summer Movie fix through streaming services. This is the time of the year when the biggest, most expensive, and insane Hollywood Blockbusters are supposed to come out! At least Netflix and a few of the other streaming services have put out a few solid summer action movies. I particularly enjoyed The Old Guard starring Charlize Theron (here’s my review to refresh you’re memory: https://best-media-world.com/2020/07/14/movie-review-the-old-guard/ ). Now we have Project Power starring Jamie Foxx and Joseph Gordon Levitt. The idea of a dangerous street drug that temporarily grants super powers is nothing new in superhero storytelling. So this movie isn’t exactly reinventing the wheel. But there were enough interesting and cool visuals to make want to check it out when it hits Netflix on 8/14/20. Check out the trailer:
EW.com had some cool images from the movie, which I have posted here…
Lucifer Season 5:
When Lucifer premiered on Fox a few years back, I absolutely hated the concept. You see, THISversion of Lucifer first appeared as a recurring in the classic comic book series, The Sandman, written by Neil Gaiman. The character was popular and interesting enough to get his own critically acclaimed, spin-off comic book series, Lucifer created by Mike Carey. Both books were very dark and adult, so they were published by DC Comics under the legendary Vertigo imprint. Vertigo was kind of like HBO for comic books, meaning the creators were able to do whatever they damn well pleased without censorship (for the most part anyway…). Classic comic books like Preacher, 100 Bullets, Fables, and Ex Machina were all published under Vertigo. To be clear, the Lucifer TV series is an adaptation of that version of the character, when I saw that FOX’s take was essentially a police procedural like Bones, Monk, Castle, or Elementary and the THOUSANDS of other shows just like them, I was disgusted. These shows all have the same formula: a straight laced detective is forced to partnered with a quirky and unique individual, whose unorthodox gimmick is shockingly effective at solving crimes (Oh, and of course they’ll eventually fall in love after years of “Will They/Wont They?”, romantic and sexual tension)! That might as well be describing 30 other stupid fucking shows on TV. After seeing the pilot, there was nothing to convince me that this was anything but Lucifer, in name only. Just another dumb procedural. Why the fuck would The Devil want to solve mysteries with the LAPD? However, it managed to gathered a cult following and I kept hearing that the show was pretty good and a lot of fun. When the show moved to Netflix for its fourth season, I decided to give it shot and binge watched entire series so far. Surprisingly, I enjoyed the hell out of it (and NO, that wasn’t a pun! I don’t do puns, goddammit!). As the show continues, the police element is still there, but the series has gotten more and more into the mythology of other Angels, Demons, Lucifer discovering more about himself, Hell, God, and more. The show is at its best when it focuses on those story elements. Their ace in the hole is Tom Ellis who plays Lucifer. The guy is so damned charismatic and fun to watch. We haven’t seen a version of The Devil quite like this one yet and Tom Ellis absolutely crushes it. Even a weak episode is still entertaining because of Tom Ellis’ performance. The series was originally planned to wrap up after it’s upcoming 5th season, but the show has proved to be so popular that Netflix ordered more episodes, extending Season 5 (which will now be split in 2-parts). Not only are fans getting more episodes for this new season, but Netflix has already ordered a 6th season. It’s a good time to be a fan of this series. Check out the trailer below:

When I wrote an article about the 10 best TV shows of 2019, both The Boys and The Umbrella Academy were pretty damn high on the list. So, I’m very excited to see what each series has cooked up for Season 2. Their EXTREMELY different shows, but besides Watchmen, they are hands down the best superhero television series running right now. I’m psyched for both shows, but while I love the insanity of The Boys trailer, I think I like The Umbrella Academy trailer just a little bit more. Mostly because I have no fucking clue where The Umbrella Academy will take things in Season 2. Either way, I have a feeling that watching both of these new seasons is going to be a blast! Take a look at the trailers and some promo posters below…

With movie theaters being closed, it’s been a pretty lackluster (or more accurately, nonexistent) summer movie season. However, there have been a few cool movies released digitally or directly to streaming services. There are two kinds of Netflix Original Movies, the first are mostly pretty shitty movies that couldn’t find a distributor, so they were sold to Netflix. The second kind of Netflix Original Movie is a film produced through Netflix’s in-house production company and is a real attempt at making a great movie. It’s this second kind of Netflix film that will be talking about today. Netflix has released successful films before through it’s in house production company, but one of their more high profile movies will be hitting the streaming service later this month. The Old Guard starring Charlize Theron is based on the comic book series by Greg Rucka and Leandro Fernandez about a team of immortal soldiers who seemingly can’t be killed. Greg Rucker is a fantastic writer and I read the first volume of The Old Guard graphic novel when it first came out and I thought it was very good. This movie sort of flew under my radar, but it looks pretty damn cool. I know I’ll be watching it when it starts streaming on Netflix next week. Take a look at the trailer right here:
So far, it’s been a fantastic year for DC Animated Movies. First, we got the excellent adaptation of the classic Superman graphic novel, Superman: Red Son. Which is one of the best movies DC Animation has put out in years. Then just a few months ago with the release of Justice League Dark: Apokolips War, which was a bleak, bloody, action packed, funny, thrill ride, that utterly destroyed the interconnected DC Animated Universe that has been spread over 11 or 12 movies. DC Animation was doing their own version of the MCU with some (but not all) of their films. and Justice League Dark: Apokolips War was the final film in that series and it was pretty fucking great. Now, we have two more DC Animated Movies to look forward to this summer and they both seem Seri promising in completely different ways. First up, we have our first look at the next DC Animated Movie, Superman: Man of Tomorrow! Take a look at the trailer right here and then I’ll give you a few of my thoughts below…
I’m really digging the vibe of this one. First of all I really like how the animation seems unique from other styles we’ve seen from DC in the past. Also, even though they say this is an original story, this is clearly an adaptation of the excellent, recent Superman miniseries, Superman: American Alien. American Alien is a fantastic graphic novel, so if this is even a loose adaptation, I’m all for it! Plus, I love seeing Superman fight villains like Lobo and Parasite. Bottom line: I’ll be buying a digital copy of this movie it hits iTunes in July. If it’s anywhere near as good as Superman: Red Son and Justice League Dark: Apokolips War, I’m sure I’ll buy the Blu-Ray, too.
Superman: Man of Tomorrow will available for digital download on 8/23 and 4K/Blu-Ray on 9/8
The second DC Animated film we can look forward to in the near future, is Deathstroke: Knights & Dragons. This originally appeared as a series of animated shorts on The CW seed app. DC Animation expanded the content and decided to release it as a feature length film, focusing on the DC Universe’s most famous and deadly assassin. Similar successful and entertaining projects have been done with John Constantine and Vixen. It looks damn pretty cool and It certainly is a sharp contrast to Superman a man of tomorrow, it certainly is a sharp contrast to Superman: Man of Tomorrow, take a look at the trailer below:
Deathstroke: Knights & Dragons will be available digitally on 8/4/20 and on 4K/Blu-Ray on 8/18/20
The new trailer for the upcoming film, The King’s Man, was released online over the weekend. The movie, directed by Mathew Vaughn, sports a very solid cast that includes Ralph Fiennes, Daniel Bruhl, Charles Dance, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and Djimon Hounsou, just to name a few. Taking place right around World War I, the movie is a prequel to Vaughn’s successful Kingsman series and chronicles the founding The Kingsman, a private, non-government intelligence agency dedicated to protecting the world. I love the idea of a newly formed Kingsman organization going up against a colorful group of history’s villains like Rasputin and Mata Hari. It certainly doesn’t hurt that Ralph Fiennes looks to be fulfilling the role is this movie, that Colin Firth did so well in the first two. It’s a brilliant direction to take the franchise in, after the somewhat lackluster second installment in the series. The best sequels take the world that was established in the first film and do something completely different and unique with it. That’s what they look to be achieving here and the whole thing looks like a blast.
The King’s Man was originally scheduled for release a few months ago, but Disney’s purchase of Fox and the subsequent pandemic delayed the film’s premiere to September 18th. I’m a big Mathew Vaughn fan, with the possible exception of the second Kingsman movie, he hasn’t made a film that I don’t love (and even Kingsman: The Golden Shower is still pretty good). Layer Cake, Stardust, Kick-Ass, X-Men: First Class, and Kingsman: The Secret Service are all excellent films. Hopefully this movie returns Mathew Vaughn to the standard of excellence many fans have come to expect from the talented filmmaker. Watch the new trailer right here:
The King’s Man arrives in theaters on 9/18/20

Summer has always been my favorite season. I love spending an afternoon, sitting under a shady tree, reading a good book or graphic novel. I love going to Cape Cod as often as I can and enjoy the beautiful beaches. Most of all, I love SUMMER MOVIE SEASON. They may not always be the most high brow of films, but Big Summer Blockbusters have always been and always will be, my favorite kind of movies. It’s purest form of the moviegoing experiences. You get your hot popcorn, a cold drink, and hopefully, the world outside of the theatre falls away for a few hours. You can put you problems and worries aside and take a trip to Gotham City or an island resort where cloned dinosaurs roam or a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away… and if anyone understands the cinematic magic of the Summer Blockbuster, it’s Christopher Nolan. The best Summer Blockbusters don’t only offer amazing spectacle, but gripping, fleshed out characters and stories as well. To quote Will Smith, Nolan has become a master of “Popcorn and Prestige” filmmaking. The trailer for his new film Tenet, has dropped and it sure looks like a blast!
Tenet Director, Christopher Nolan
Starring John David Washington, Robert Pattinson, and Michael Caine, Tenet looks to be a thrilling spy film with time travel thrown into the mix. Watch the trailer here and let me know what you think….
Unfortunately, because of the pandemic, Summer Movie Season 2020 is a bust. Most theatres are still closed and only a few movies like Wonder Woman: 1984 are keeping their current summer release dates. While other movie studios and filmmakers are pushing their movies back to next summer or releasing their films on streaming services or On Demand. Come Hell or high water, Christopher Nolan is determined to release TenetTHIS YEAR, IN MOVIE THEATERS. Though originally scheduled for a 7/17/20 release date, it’s possible Nolan may push back the release date to ensure a larger audience. If I to bet on it, I’d say movie end up will hitting theaters in August or November. If they’re not going to stick to the original release date, these are the 2 most logical months for such a high profile project (and Nolan will still be able get the movie in theaters before the end of the year). I suppose we’ll have to wait and see. I know I’m excited!
